  1. i had a w reg which i took to 180, 000 before the head went. I now have the 3 litre wildtrack 08 reg and its superb, i chose it after test driving new hilux, nissan and l200, its faster more economical and doesn't look as 'american' as the others. atb Luke.
  2. From what you've said there, do you reckon its legal to shoot mandarin duck? we got loads of the little blighters visiting one of our ponds on the shoot
  3. The local hunt are normally in a position and licensed to take fallen stock and this is fed to the hounds. Other companies do exist and they often have contracts with zoos etc and the stock go there for feed. Otherwise it has to be incinerated if its diseased or full of drugs.
  4. Thats not dirty enough for a shooting motor mate, lol. I do like landy's and i don't mind fixing things so if i didn't have to do so many road miles i would have a defender in a heart beat, but i am definately now a convert to japanese pick ups for towing, carrying, comfort etc. Mum and dad have an L reg defender V8 which is basically a mobile tack room but thats got loads of miles on it and still going, had to have a few bits of welding for an mot but we did that for peanuts.
  5. get a jap mate, lot more car for the money, comfortable, more economical. something like a shogun so many around they go for cheap nowadays.
  6. .243 for cats, collar or no collar, they are vermin regardless of whether they sleep in a house or a tree. they have a hell of a lot to answer for with regard british songbirds especially in suburban areas. grain soft nose will sort it out then chuck it on the lane and run it over a couple of times.
  7. Well i played with it for a bit yesterday evening and near enough zeroed it in with the 85 grains just leaning on the back of my truck, then i chucked the 100 grains in it just to see what it does and poked 3 through the 2" square at 100 yards, that'll do for now, i need to sort out a bipod and a bit of tarp to lay on before i zero in good and proper (it was a bit of a rush job straight after work)then try after a fallow on Sunday with any luck.
  8. Anyway, while you gents have been waxing lyrical about the ins and outs of every calibre i have ever heard of i've been out and bought a Howa 1500 .243 with a t8 mod and plan to put some nosla 100 grains through it at a piece of paper and then a fallow doe at the earliest oppurtunity. Enjoy arguing i'm off shooting.
  9. Unfortunately some people use dogs and or guns as extensions to their penises and give the decent majority a bad name.
  10. I think i'm going to go for a Howa with the thumbhole stock and stainless varmint barrel (second hand but i know it has fired less than 50 rounds) coupled up with a t8 moderator and new Burris 3-9x50 scope. Anybody got any opinions on that little combo? Atb, Luke.
  11. Well that says it all i think, i take it you'd recommend buying new then mate? Whilst ive hopefully got your attentions, has anyone used or abused Burris scopes?
  12. Anybody had any dealings with the cz rifles in .243? I been looking at (online) the 550 scandinavian, any good? Also, whats the consensus of opinion on Howa rifles again in 243?
  13. I got an old kawasaki klf (bout 1995 or thereabouts) i welded up a little rugby post style rest for shooting the rifle from and i bought some little rubber v grips that fit on the front racking that hold the rifle while im driving. Ive got a double fag lighter socket adapter so i can have my hand lamp which i operate with my left hand while im driving. Then if i see old charlie i stop and switch off, pick the rifle which has a scope mounted lamp on and do the business. The klf is a great little machine and you can get some good ones- i only paid 500 quid for mine, it has high and low range and
  14. if it were cheaper to stalk in scotland then more people could afford to help out with the cull.

    Thirsty

all the pickups get a lower rate of tax £185 a year at the moment, i have a ford ranger wildtrak 3.0 does everything i need, goes like a rocket, good for towing and i got 36 mpg all the way to south of france and back in it doing around -85 all the way on the autoroutes, i never average less than 31mpg unless im towing. stick a good set of tyres on it and they will go most places.
  16. Some b*****ds clamped my mates old hilux ages ago with this shitty little clamp, the sort of thing that you find on caravans on peoples drives (halfords special). As he came back to the vehical these two clampers were waiting there watching so he just jumped in and drove off he said it clunked a few times then broke off. The two clampers were going ape shit and he never heard a word from them!
  17. I got my variation all done and dusted for 243 because as some on here have rightly said it is a good allround rifle. I've shot different types at all sorts and on my shoot it is mainly fallow which a 100 grain sorts out quite nicely with a well placed close range neck shot or boiler house at longer ranges. I just wanted peoples opinions on different rifles really as i have been using a friends tikka t3 with varmint barrel and that is a lovely rifle but i can only find them brand new at the minute so by the time ive added a mod and scope it will start getting a bit pricey! I think people talk
  18. Me too, i've been chasing fur feather and fin since i could walk, ferreting, archery, air rifles, catapults, drey poking, wildfowling, pigeon shooting, carp fishing, fly fishing, sea fishing, ratting with terriers, following hunt, lamping rabbits, lamping foxes, deer stalking, pheasant shooting, partridge shooting. Now i limit my forays to driven pheasant and partridge, pigeon shooting, lamping foxes and deer stalking with the odd bit of fishing of various disciplines thrown in for good measure. I like to consider myself a varied allrounder however i have no experience of running dogs and is s
  19. Any chaps or chapesses on here recommend rifle and rifle and scope combinations for all round use? I'm in the market for an allround rifle for mainly deer and foxing use. Anyone have a decent setup for sale? Moderator cut or with moderator preferred.
  20. i think all shooting wagons have to be a compromise, japs sacrifice ruggedness for reliability and comfort while land rovers sacrifice comfort, fuel consumption, reliability and power for erm, what exactly?
  21. I didn't think they were afforded any protection in this country as they are an invasive species?
  22. Has anyone shot and/or eaten Mandarin duck as we have quite a few on the various little splashes around our shoot.
  23. justy's are pukka but ground clearance lets them down, i just really like the jimny's for the money,
  24. they are by a long stretch, the bloke before was talking rubbish
