This is my new hutch for my four ferrets. Its about 3 metres long, a metre and a half tall, and a metre deep. It took about two months' weekends to build, but it was well worth it. I wanted something cheap and different aswell, hence the cladded back and sides. The cladding was all free which was a bonus! Hope you enjoy, Adam.

pin and glue for me Adam.

12mm ply is good, and light aswell. and if you're doing a bowback, you'll have to use 4mm, or it wont bend. Adam.

What worked for me when mine were kits, was to just keep handling them. And if they were persistant in nipping, then scruff them for a couple of seconds. Or, put something that doesn't taste nice to them on your fingers. They wont carry on much longer. Adam.

Hi all. i've got a dilemna. I've just been on the phone with the vets about a jill jab. First of all, they wanted 35 quid for it. Secondly, they said that the jill jab should be done before she goes into season. and that it is not likely to work now she is in season. So, now im faced with the problem of having to get her out of season one way or another, i dont have a vasectomised hob which i would prefer. And i dont want to spend 35 quid if its not going to work. Any advice or suggestions? Adam.

She was in season for about a month, give or take a few days. No, i'm pretty sure her gums weren't blue. she wasn't eating or drinking by herself, i was syringing a goats milk and egg mixture and water into her mouth so all she had to was swallow. No foul smells coming from her as i'm aware. diarrhoea is a cert, no difficulty breathing. I'll be finding a real vets next time i have a problem, god forbid. Thanks for the advice. Adam.

Thanks for your Replys, but sadly i have to inform you that she has died. We all learn from our mistakes, and i am still learning about ferrets, this was a big eye opener at how fast ferrets can go down hill.

Hello all. About a week ago i posted on here about one of my one year old jills (first time in heat) being ill. She was not really drinking or eating, was hardly moving and she always looked half asleep. Ok since then i moved her into her own cage and took her to the vets, the vets said they did not know what was wrong with her, gave her a jill jab and some antibiotics, charged us 35 quid and sent us on our way!!! At the moment she is reaally reaally skinny, bones are showing and she can't stand on all fours (she just flops over), she can't drink on her own or eat, has to be fed with a syrin

i think consultation was £18. jill jab was £10, and then £7 for the antibiotics. the thing that got a little on my nerves was that, the vet, didn't seem to know hardly anything about ferrets. you go to the vets for an informed decision, but im pretty sure i knew more about ferrets than him. Yes, the healthy jill, her sister, went mental that night i separated them, so i put in my snipped hob with her and she calmed down a bit. The reason i would like her to get back in with her sister asap, is that the hutch she is in now. Is not a big one at all. its really restricted and doesn't give

Well, she went to the vets yesterdat morning as she looked to be going down hill again. The vets couldn't tell me exactly what it was, but instead gave her the jill jab and a course of anti-biotics. And charged me £35. This morning checked up on her again, looking much better, more alert, eating now. Looking good now, will be putting her back in with her sister soon depending on how she progresses. Just to clarify, i don't mind spending the £35 on the jill. But that amount of money and not even being able to tell me whats wrong with her and just having a couple of stabs in the dark isn

Its funny how at the moment i have no eggs or rabbit! I am going out shopping later, but for now i put some milk in her bowl and put abit of kibble in it, she ate abit of that. I guess it was abit hard for her before.

Another quick update. The morning after it was ill, i put her back with her sister, and she did a green and black pee and poo, with little white bits in it. does anyone know what time means?? she was moving much better, she is drinking, but i am not sure how much. She seems like she has thinned out, and i have not seen her eating. today i was with her again, and she has been abit weak again, not as bad as before, but she just moves around like she is really tired. The hobs cage is very close and they can see eachother, and smell eachother from there. Could have have an effect on her? thank
