I haven't shot stingers for near twenty years but I doubt the rounds have got any better. Not very accurate, very loud and on the whole a waste of time. effort and money. The .22rf is a cracking round that has stood the test of time but it's not massively powerful. If you need more power, get a .22 WMR which is another cracking round and more power again get a .223 which is ok. If you land is passed, just jump to the .243 which is a cracking round and when combined with a .22rf you will have a rifle calibre for every need but don't waste your money on stingers. John

Well I'll obligate you by telling you that if you put a whole rabbit in with ferrets that are used to eating whole carcass, they will eat the guts. I have no idea how long you have owned ferrets my little button flower, but I'm guessing not that long and you have a great many things to learn. John

I haven't read all the replies as I lost the will to live by the third page but...... Complete food is just that, COMPLETE! You do not need to supplement the diet with anything else however most of us choose to give our ferrets treats such as raw eggs or even some of the vitamin supplements and there is nothing at all wrong with doing that if you so wish. Fresh meat is great for ferrets, it's exactly what nature designed them to live on, but simple stand alone meat will not supply the ferrets all it's dietary needs, as would whole carcass which contains a lot more than just pure meat. gun slips what ones do you rate ?
HUnter_zero replied to Water Badger's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
One of the best purchases I have ever made is a WebTex 'drag bag'. It's a rifle cases that can be carried like a rucksack. I am sure there is better out there but these days the bags can be got for not much money. John -
Okay the bottom line is, armed trespass is a serious criminal offence. Just because the police issued a caution does not mean it was simply a petty non-specific not to worry about thing. Cautions are an admission of guilt and as you were guilty of the crime by your own admission, you are now suffering the consequences of your actions. Please don't think I am having a go at you, I am not. All I am trying to do is explain why based on the information you have given, the police have refused your application. Again, think of it from the police point of view, they don't know you, they don't know y

Trespassing with an Airgun AKA Armed trespass is a criminal offence, you were lucky that the police just gave you a reprimand AKA a caution which by agreeing too, you also agreed that you were guilty. If you look at things, five years ago you were caught and cautioned for armed trespass. You admitted and agreed to the offence. Not much chance you will be granted a SGC for a good few years. I presume that you did admit to a caution on the application? John

law on shooting 22 on golf course
HUnter_zero replied to jocky's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I know a few people who shoot on Golf courses. One of the biggest issues is that you can only shoot when the course is empty of players which means either 3am on a summers morning or when the club house closes on a winters evening. That said, I have seen people playing with glow in the dark golf balls! Golf course also seem to be a mecca for dog walkers and nature watches, oh and late night couples, surely they must have a bed to use? Cold damp grass just isn't my thing god I'm getting old. I know one chap, who sets up on high ground, and shoots bunnies with his .223. He just stays put, take -
Cheaper to order on line, think the Mrs paid 17 or so pounds for a 'large dog' pack. What I do is to use a whole vial on my Collie 'X', half on my Whippet and on drop on each ferret. I think there were six vials in the pack, so that's 3 - 4 months of flea & tick prevention. John

I think you will find that both cat and dog BASIC Frontline contains Fipronil which is a general and very safe insecticide. The newer Frontline products contain two different insecticides IIRC one of which CAN NOT be used on ferrets. I certainly use fipronil on my ferrets and dogs, in fact I did last night! Think this year is going to be a bad one for fleas. John

Not taking sides here buddy. I'd be 100% gutted if my dog was killed but, horses will kick dogs that bother them and as much as it's hard to see it right now your mates dog much have been bothering the horses. It doesn't matter if the horses should have been in the field or not, it's just one of them things that happen. Life's shite like that sometimes. I had a dog kicked in the shoulder once, it was the dogs fault for barking at a pony, the dog never barked at a pony again. I don't think you can blame anyone other than the dog, anymore than you can blame the weather man because it's raining.

What rifle and calibre do you use ?
HUnter_zero replied to Lloyd90's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I don't really have a preference, depends on what deer I am stalking. Yesterday on the Bucks, I was shooting my .243 Mannlicher pro-hunter, topped with 8x56 S&B scope, loaded with grain rem SP bullets. It's a light weight sweet rifle to shoot and as I was calling and in woodland shooting at short ranges the rifle fitted the bill and resulted in a fine buck. (Used for Deer and Fox). If I stalking reds, I'll use my .308 Remington SPS tactical, topped with 6x42 S&B, loaded with 165 grain SP. I love both combs to bits and both do a fine job, each have advantages and disadvantages over -

A vasectomy will set you back between £50 & £70 depending on the vets prices. Good and bad for for options. John -
They also need a SGC. John

Must be your personal situation, coz I got no excess and cheaper price John
-
Don't mind at all, in fact I just dug the policy out. It's with Petpal's and £7.33 per month. Total pay outs are slightly less than Tescos at £2k per incident but as I say, no excess. Look here John
-
When we were shopping around, there were plenty for around £5 per month with no excess BUT to my mind, the deal we got was a couple of pounds more per month, but over the year was say £24 (Might be £8 per month we are paying, not sure would have to look). £24 worked out cheaper than £60 if you see what I mean. John

We are paying £7 per month for our Whippet bitch, no excess. John

So so so true! Two fields mowed and my little bitch has found, nay directly walked to a dead field mouse in each, rolled and ended up smelling like the toilet. Poor girl had flies buzzing all around her tonight Better nose than any lab or spaniel I have ever seen. John

22lr Remington yellow jackets
HUnter_zero replied to fox_hunter's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I haven't any experience of the Yellow jackets but my mate purchased 1000 Rem subs and what a mistake that was. No two rounds had the same muzzle velocity, a total waste of money and I have seen other complain of the same. My other experience of Remington's ammunition was to buy 100 of their grain SP bullets in .243, the dimensions are all over the place. However I love their 700's John -
