  1. Just wondering if anyone had any goose flights for sale? John
  2. Just like to sort of correct this myth. Anyone who spends time out of doors is at risk of contracting weil's disease, not just from rats but also cattle! The correct name or the name that the doctors will understand is : leptospirosis. Your only defence is knowing the early symptoms of the disease which are: flu-like symptoms with persistent and severe headache. After being out of doors, working on the land, hunting or fishing. If you develop such symptoms go to the doc's and get checked out for Weil's disease. It can be cured if caught early, leave it a few weeks and you a
  3. I might be wrong, but I am sure the 1500 uses the same mounts as a Remington 700. If I am right, you have a world of options. John
  4. They can think what the feck they like and catch their own moles if they like too. John
  5. Hey Buddy, Buy yourself an early Xmas present...... http://www.dealextreme.com/p/flood-to-throw-3-mode-cree-q3-led-headlamp-1-18650-44277 These give a tight 200 yard white beam John
  6. Couple of things here. 1) Are you sure it's the mounts? You said you could see the cross hairs vibrating, this would suggest that the scope is at fault. 2) Presuming the scope is not at fault. There is only one thing for it. Strip the lot off the rifle, degrease the lot and have a good look for any signs of damage. If found or suspected, bin the lot and buy new, assemble using thread lock (loctite 243) and re-zero. John
  7. Not all wormers are the same, and most are pushed by the vets for no other reason than profit. there is only one....... Milbemax, compare what other wormers will treat and they lose hands down. John
  8. Makes no odds if there was livestock on the land or if you had permission to be on the land, people still can not threaten you with firearms, it's a criminal offence. Good on you and the Mrs! Keep us updated. John
  9. Hi Barky, so very good advice so far. I'll add my take on things as well. 1) You are going to need suitable land. What 'we' deem suitable and what the firearms department deem suitable seems to differ some what. So, cutting to the chase choose the most hilly land you have, the one with the most back stops, the one which has very little in the way of public access, the one that is obviously better than the rest. You must remember that for the first few years you can only shoot on cleared or passed land! This might restrict you at the beginning but you can always ask for other areas of
  10. I couldn't agree with you more John. Personally, the phone would have been out of my pocket in a flash calling the old bill, the moment any firearm was waved even slightly in my direction. Intimidation with a firearm? This tosser should not have an FAC. Duncan. Would be interesting to read an update on this. I am reading more and more posts across the Internet where people seem to think they can take the law in to their own hands and face off suspected poachers/trespassers whilst waving firearms around. There is also this misconception about shooting dogs, it's not as simple as
  11. The difference is £300 to make it shoot straight 6x42 S&B will suit your needs and if you do a little searching you will pick one up for around £160 S/H. John
  12. Frankly if you have their number plate and you and the Mrs were prepared to make a formal statement as per your forum post. The chaps would lose their FAC. This would be the case even if you were trespassing which is a civil offence, however threatening behaviour whilst armed with a firearm is slightly more of an issue and one that the police would love to take up on your behalf. Much the same thing happened to my Mrs & I a few months back, we were walking our whippet & collie on a recently cut field, when some tit came over and threatened to shoot the dogs. I asked "so what wo
  13. Following this with interest. I've owned a few .410 and will admit that in my hands I might as well be using a spud gun. My take on the matter is; The little .410 has a lot less shot in each cartridge, the shot flies at the same velocity as shot fired from a 12 bore, however due to having less shot it means a greater opening in the pattern or to put it another way a larger gap between each ball or pellet when hitting the target at say 25 yards. I don't subscribe to the "expert marksman with a shotgun" crew. There is a massive degree of luck with shotguns, the pattern flies as the pattern
  14. Which one buddy? CLP Sportsman were selling it at £1.99 a bottle. ZX1 (this is a must have and if you do a bit of research on the BR forums, you will see why.) Halfords sell it. John
  15. Break free CPL with a touch of ZX1 oil additive which actually improves lubrication (in fact the stuff is amazing). It almost stops copper fouling in centerfire rifles as well. CPL on it's own is used by the military (has a NATO stock code as well), very good stuff indeed. John
  16. Just get a couple of tubes of "grip-fill" and fill the gap at the back, smoothing it off and leaving it to dry. No one will be any the wiser and when set, grip fill is bloody hard stuff. Buy it from Screw fix for a cheap price. After ten cabinet inspections, not once has anyone ever looked at the back of my cabinet. John
  17. I'm almost certain it is John, problem is, I can't recall where I read it X bore? You might well be right buddy. However, I am % sure that we can have solid slugs on our FAC (with good reason) and shoot from a standard shotgun held on a SGC. The separation classification for FAC classed shotguns and non-FAC shotguns being only the magazine capacity and not the projectile classification. Solid slugs are bloody dangerous, close range the power is extremely high being able to crack engine blocks with relative ease. I witnessed tests, one brick course and one cinder block course with
  18. Is that right? I was under the impression that "X" bore solid slug can be entered on to an FAC. Hey, all this talk of large bore stuff is a bit worrying............ B53hunt; trust me large bore shotgun ammo is not very effective at all, little bit like trying to hit a goose with a .410 seems like a good idea, just don't work very well. Many years ago, a friend and I had a load of SG cartridges given to us, we set up a 50gal steel drum at 60 yards and shot 10 rounds at it, we hit the drum once. If you NEED big bore stuff, do the job properly and apply for an FAC, buy a couple of high seats
  19. I would guess that the gun has been re-bored to eight bore. Personally speaking, "odd" bores sizes do not attract a vast amount of interest these days, even the sweet twenty eight bore makes little more money than a twelve bore. Problem is that people don't have the wad to feed these beasts anymore and of course unless the eight bore has been "proofed" for steel there is little or no real market. Retail value IMHO would be around £200 to £400 depending on the buyer and of course critically condition. Auction value would be IMHO (to sell) less than £100. John
  20. Bit like saying "whats the best car for driving?". With out knowing your budget, look at the Swarovski, Zeiss, S&B, Khales or Meopta range of scopes. John
  21. Lumen's are only part of the equation. I'll try to explain. There are several LED's on the market that produce a high output of light (LED = Light emitting diode). First you need to decide exactly what you need the lamp for and exactly how far you want the beam to shine, for example you don't need a 200 yard beam for rabbits and IMHO LED torches are not really suited for foxes where a good solid 12v lamp is needed for ID purposes. You need to work out if you are happy with a wide flood type beam or a very tight spot beam. I have both and for all practical purposes both will shine out to 150 ya
  22. Never is a person more enslaved that when they truly think they are free. My take on things is "don't put your faith in any of them, coz you will draw the short straw". It's not just the government who what guns removed from the general population, to think it is; is as short sighted as a mole and just as in the dark. John
  23. Nope, I'm more of a "s0d-it, I've got six more bottles in the cupboard kind of guy". John
  24. AAA / SSG / SG / LG or soild slug John
