    My whippet has her "best" seat. That is until I light the log burner........ A I recently has a thermal imaging camera at my disposal, now that made for some very interesting times. I took the dogs out for a walk, the collie x didn't lose very much heat at all, even when wet. Yet the whippet started out with more heat, and then rapidly lost heat. The joys of modern technology.... If you ever get the chance to play around with one of these thermal imagers, the cameras are great for finding rabbits in bushes Me at work ........

    To be honest, Opticswarehouse are selling some cracking Simmons scopes for £65, personally I would never have any trust in your scope again. In my opinion, you are best off junking it and buying another. John

    To be honest, there isn't any. Bottom line is that it can be cheaper to buy factory rounds than reload and will take a long time to recoup your equipment costs. Cheap reloading equipment will equate to cheap tools which in turn can only effect the quality of the ammunition you produce. You will not find a master crafts man buying a 25p screwdriver or a top class engineer buying a 5p 13mm spanner. I guess it's fortunate that we don't really reload for cheapness as apposed to quality. My advice is to upgrade slowly, keeping your eyes out for second hand quality presses and scales.

    Not see bags like that around these parts for many years. Twenty would be an exceptional bag around here. A mate tells me of 150 or more per night but that's up in Scotland.... I can only dream. John

    This would have saved me a whole lot of hassle a few years back. I had a Franchi AL-48 which I struggled and struggled with. Turned out to be exactly the same issue. 65mm cartridges were great, 70mm would jam every time. Sold the gun, only to find out why I had issues a few weeks later. John

    Good & cheap don't really go together. Why not just nip to the local Blacksmith (they are still around, although these days called wrought iron) and ask them to knock up a couple for you. that's going to be the cheapest and best quality option IMHO. If you were closer, my mate would make some for you. or something like this? Couple of pounds worth of timber me thinks. John

    Well you are not really sanding as apposed to polishing. I guess what the manufactures suspect is that the chamber has some tooling marks which are catching on the spend cartridge. The idea is simply to give the chamber a polish but if you are unsure take the gun to a gunsmith. John

    £50 set-up inc. 1st mole and £10 per mole afterwards.....more or less the standard charge. Times are very hard for all pest controllers, someone once said "pest don't know it's a recession", that might be true but the guy who pays the bill knows it's a recession. No specifically moles, but so many companies are going bust, general pest control is being hit. Top tip for moles is to try your local councils, most have now got rid of their pest controllers and have no real way to stop mole damage. You will get work from rounder-bouts to cemeteries. John

    Not sure what you are asking but if you go out with the lamp and find mist, just turn back home. All you will do is educate the rabbits who will spot you a mile away and hear you a mile away. Mist is good for keeping your scent down, but will transmit sounds for miles. John

    With all due respect, what a load of old cobblers! Are you seriously telling me if a member of your family got run over by a bus, you would place the crushed corps on the church alter tyre mark and all? Obviously not. The reason you publish gory photographs, as with most experienced shooters is for effect and the resultant following you get from praise which makes you feel good. It has nothing at all to do with hard line journalism bringing the arm chair hunter "true" images from the fields of war. My point of view is this.     101% agree with you. I have said it before; Not so long ago we took pride in what we did, respected our quarry if you like. These days, and it's not just on here! There seems to be a culture or a fraternity that has no real understanding of the countryside and has the sole wish to mess an animal up, so gruesomely it is hard to distinguish as to what species the bloody remains belong. Blowing the guts out of a fox and glorifying the mangled remains with photos and then displaying them for all to see, seems a little perverse and deeply worrying. I don't really publish what I shoot,

    Trust me, you will soon get fed up throwing clays by hand. Just buy one of the £25 odd cheap clay traps and mount it to a tidy stand. Clays are around £7 a box. John

    I mounted a 8x56 S&B on my pro-hunter (sporter weight barrel) using med mounts. Obviously you need to mount the scope as low as possible with out it touching the barrel. Got away with low mounts on my Rem 700 SPS tactical and 6x42 S&B and low on my CZ mounting a 6x42 S&B. I would say med will 100% work but if you are lucky you _might_ be able to use low mounts. If you want I could certainly take some measurements in the morning for you.  John

    Couple of points to think about: 1) Time, it's not economic to sit around all day trying to shoot rats, when a trap will work 24/7. Same goes for foxes etc etc. 2) Very little environmental impact, traps do not leave "chemicals" in the environment. 3) Target specific 4) Humane 5) Enables catch and release type operations, where you can release non-target species 6) You can remove the dead bodies with ease. 7) less invasive and more safe that other methods of vermin control.     You would have to cut the abscess open to inspect it. Looks like a pellet wound to me but it could be anything. I tend not to eat anything that has abscesses or injuries. John

    Value at auction for a fine example would be around £150 to £160. Poor example £5 to £20. Average example £50 to £. Dependant on the day as always. Shop price, as always is as much as they can get, £100 to £250. Likely be a Spanish re-brand. John
