    5 crows, one shot. 2 ducks on shot. 3 rabbits one shot. The former were shot with a 12 bore, the latter with a .22rf. We used to shoot over a quarry that was full with rabbits, it got so boring that my mate & I used to wait for the rabbits to line up before shooting. John

    I can remember when Meopta was mostly unknown here in the UK and the prices were very reasonable indeed. I can understand what your saying about the .222, just my point of view has always been that no matter how accurate the rifle is or how well I am shooting on the day, if the scope isn't 100% then one day things are bound to go wrong. Some other options might be a Tasco Titan, the older models are rock solid, Tasco Euro class is another seriously solid tasco. Simmons Whitetail classic (the ones with the granite finish) are very good scopes for the money and can be purchased for less than £2

    I have only ever owned one Nikko scope, a 4-12x50 and it was superb. As I say, I think that the scopes have come on in leaps and bounds these days but as with most things "you pays your money and takes your chances and get just a little less than you thought you would". I'm not sure what the price is of the scope scope you were looking at but you also have options like Meopta, S&B & Khales. John

    Well it's that time of year again that I can finally get up the range to test reloads and hone my rifle skills. The range I shoot on is simply a field in the middle of these Welsh hills, the drive is through common land, dirt tracks and woodland, until finally the range is insight, so dry weather is a must. I've just dug out my bench rest and given it a lick of wood preserver, check my tripod and my spotting scope for suitability and then it occurred to me. Why in hells name do I bother with all this equipment? My complete set-up is some what of a portable ballistics lab. B

    Once upon a time....... but not anymore..... That's wheat happens when a bunch of ignorant people have the power to make laws, ignorant laws prevail. WE can have a .308 rifle, which can kill for over a mile but not a hand gun which is useless much past 30 yards. Any way, back on track. If I were based in your location I doubt I'd be looking for Nikko scopes. Surely there must be many second hand Zeiss or Swarovski scopes in the guns shops?     Hi all, just wondering if there is any interest in my Parker Hale classic stalking rifle The rifle has had the trigger done and action bedded. Genuine Bushnell Banner dawn to dusk 6-18x50 scope.     In the first instance, I would contact any shooting organisation you might belong to and tell them what has happened. Failing that, down load a copy of the home office guidelines and literature pertaining to a .17 HMR. Obviously the FEO that attended your home is an idiot and hasn't the foggiest idea of what he/she is talking about.     Noticed in the countryman's weekly : NO CONNECTIONS WITH THE FERRET BOX COMPANY. DL shooting products have asked the countryman's weekly to point out that they do not have any working or business associations with the ferret box company or Mark Scott. How embarrassing is that! John

    Just my 2'p worth. I wasn't aware that such a shot had a name. In fact it was where I was told to shoot a deer right from the start of my stalking. Personally I prefer to shoot deer 1/3 way up and just behind the front leg, this gives me ample space for error. It seems to me a lot of people are commenting on a shot that they have never taken and passing judgment on such a shot based only on theory. If I had only three options, head, neck or "pinning" then pinning it would be. I have to admit the old boy who taught me to stalk wasn't really interested in humane methods, more that the deer

    Over all for fun it has to be the shotgun, clays, pigeon decoying, mooching, walk up pheasant, bolting rabbits etc. However I prefer the rifle. John

    Can not help with getting you any but as for health problems. Ferrets do suffer from some diseases but on the whole ferrets are healthy, happy-go-lucky animals. Hobs (males) will live for around 8-10 years, Jill's (females) 6-8 years and as with humans the older the ferret becomes the more health issues will be present but that's much the same with all animals.     Nice footage John! To be honest mate, I don't think you have anything to prove or defend in "any" thread trying to justify head shots. I speak from my own PERSONAL experience. It's hard enough to get deer stalking to begin with, it's more bloody luck than judgment to actually get a shootable beast in your sight, it's more luck than judgment to actually have a shootable beast and a safe back stop and a good shooting position all at the same time.     Hi John, this could be one of three things. First, simply the molt (most likely). Second, simply a hormone based reaction (possible). Third, Adrenal disease (outside chance). Personally I would not rush to the vet at this stage and would wait and see what happens. If it is the molt or hormones then it will sort it's self out. If adrenal disease then to be honest the operation is prohibitive and risky. There is a method to help with the symptoms.     I'm presuming you have never been to St Hubert's Club then or a BDS shoot meeting The point, as you diligently high lighted is a simple one, "If the shooter cant do better than that at 100 yards" which is why shots to the heart & lung area are so fine! Don't forget there are many many people on the Internet that shoot roe deer well in to 300 or 400 yards Now, not sure about your set-up but I don't have a snow balls chance in hell of getting 6" groups at 400 yards with my .243" Pro-hunter.     To be honest, I personally just want the beast to be dead. Once I have pulled the trigger, the best outcome is that the beast will die quickly, any other outcome is not worth a gnats whisker. An old friend of mine used to be the head deer manager of a deer park and always took head shots.     Only once did I head shoot a red and the meat tasted like cr@p. I always go for a H&L shot, that way my meat bleeds out. John
