  1. And that was a good way of not answering my question
  2. Do you sell venison to food serving businesses? If you do, put your money where you mouth is and state names and address. Quantities and prices sold and dates. I am sure the businesses would be happy with the free publicity; If not, stop talking codswallop. Supplying *any* venison (deer / hare /boar) to a GAME dealer is a totally different circumstance to supply food outlets such as pubs, clubs, restaurants or even burger vans! There is also a vast difference between putting venison etc into the food chain and supplying to a registered game dealer who then puts the venison in to the food chain
  3. It would take a very long time indeed to tenderise a fillet of stake I'd stick with plain old rump steak if I were you boss John
  4. You may not have a serial number on the gun, in which case NVN would be entered. I would call the firearms licensing department and explain the situation and ask them what number they have for the gun, again they may not. If there is a number, it will be on the action. John
  5. A lot more complex. I'm certainly not going to educate pork, that's for sure. I'll get straight to the point. I have a LOT of dealings with Environmental health in the course of my business and they will make mince meat of most amateur stalkers. If they were to be called to a food incident and the supply of meat was traced back to you, then by god you had better have a bloody good set up, bloody good insurance and every certificate you can obtain, because if you haven't they will make every effort to make sure you and every other stalker never attempts to back door venison again. You will als
  6. If the FAC dept has agreed to it, then so be it and all will be okay unless anything goes wrong and then the police will squirm like a good'un. A .22rf authority on your certificate is incorrect, calibres need to be specific. Calibre refers to the bullet diameter and cartridge length, for example I can think of ten or so 7mm rifle cartridges two good examples are 7mm & 7mm. I mean 7mm WSM & 7mm Remington magnum or even 7mm ultra mag! WSM, Remington magnum and Ultra mag are the operative words, 7mm being non descriptive at all. As I say, if your local FAC department are happy, then
  7. Hi Jenks, Different species of deer do taste different, fallow (the deer we mainly have here) taste musky, Roe a bit like lamb, Reds a bit like beef. All taste or more to the point smell like deer if that makes sense. Restaurants use Farmed red, firstly because all the meat is traceable, supply is reliable (it's pointless having venison on the menu if supply is hit and miss) and yes, taste comes in to the factor being more or less the same. Restaurants pay £120 for two back straps (tender loins to us). Most restaurants will "back door" venison but both the stalker and restaurant owner ar
  8. Then they told you wrong! Go to that same RFD and ask him if you could buy some .22WMR ammo (presuming you don't already have a .22WMR and presuming you do have .22rf on your FAC). I think this is the problem that we all have, the FEO has one opinion, the FAC dept has another (If you didn't know, they work separately just interface if you like. For example my force will not grant a .222 for vermin and fox anymore, but they will grant a .308 for vermin, fox and deer. The FEO's have told them this is all wrong but the head of the department who attends meetings with the heads of all other fo
  9. It is for that exact reason the police would never issue a certificate with .22cf. Calibres are specific, commonly taken a .22rf would grant the authority to purchase .22cap, .22short, .22LR but not .22WMR. There can be no argument that a .22WMR is a rim fire cartridge and has a bullet diameter of .22", however no RFD in their right mind will sell a .22WMR to a certificate holder with the authority to purchase .22LR or .22rf and this is a fact, why? Well because I have tried it and was told by both the RFD & the Police, NO! If anyone has any doubts at all, just go and try to buy .22WMR am
  10. Just a couple of points to note here. If you have been granted a .22lr, you can not purchase or acquire a .22wmr. The bottom line here is the interpretation of the word "calibre", it simply does not refer to bore diameter but also the length of cartridge. For example you will never be granted ".224 calibre rifle" and you would never be granted ".30 calibre centerfire rifle" for obvious reasons. In the same way .22WMR is quoted and .22lr is quoted, neither are the same and nor interchangeable with ammunition, simply different calibres. The police most certainly can put loading methods on cert
  11. The great thing with shotguns, you can buy as many as you like as long as you can store them! My mate, recently got in to full bore rifle shooting, he purchased a Parker Hale .243" & Parker hale .308 (near brand new condition) all for the princely sum of £120. His words to me were " I don't care if I can not hit a barn door, I just want the fun of shooting the rifles and a big bang ". After his first trip up the range, and after only managing a 4" group free hand with open sights, he has now invested in scopes, bases, rings, bi-pods, range mat and cleaning kit and is now in search of relo
  12. There is no way around it. Most of the time you will tighten your groups by seating just off the lands but that is not always the case! You can tighten your groups by neck turning and seating your bullets with no run out and more often than not, this will produce more accurate ammunition than seating just off the lands alone. I certainly would not despair, fact is your shooting a hunting rifle with a hunting load, correct? If so, then squeezing every last BR micro millimeter isn't necessary. John

Some dogs respond well to positive reinforcement, some to negative. I'd start at home, calling the dog around the house and rewarding him with a "chocey biscuit" or a "Bockey biscuit" as my dog knows them. Once he is 101% at home, I'd keep him on the lead until he got used to rabbit smells. Don't forget dogs get excited like us and even the most stable dog needs a good run before work.

  14. Hi Mick, first you will need written confirmation that you can shoot over the land, detailing what quarry and specific calibres, for example I authorise Mick to shoot over such and such farm and to control foxes using any firearm up to the calibre of .243". Then you need to fill in an FAC application form (referee's are not needed). On the part asking what you intend to use each of your firearms for, you would enter "fox shooting on such and such farm" and send it off to the police. When your asking for an application form, it's a good idea to discuss the change of grant with the clerk. T
  15. No need, "zeroing" is not a legal reason to hold a firearm. John Yes in my experience, hunting and target are legitimate reasons but your FAC needs to be conditioned for all use, zeroing is another use which is NOT hunting or target. Some regions may put this down as standard but it is not a good thing to "expect" anything, if you want it ask for it! I can assure the OP and anyone else for that matter, you will not get an FAC granted for "zeroing". The zeroing clause is standard across *all* forces, and if for some reason the force has not put it on the firearm condition
  16. There isn't any and the .22rf is recognised as a humane dispatch tool, together with a captive bolt. John
  17. No need, "zeroing" is not a legal reason to hold a firearm. John
  18. 1) Yes the RFD will enter the amount of ammo purchased on to your FAC but no you do not inform the police of the purchase. 2) Your friend is correct; You will have been granted an FAC for a specific purpose, or several purposes, for example "lawful shooting of vermin and target shooting on HO approved ranges". Obviously you are 101% correct, you need to practice with your rifle before use on live quarry. In reality, you are zeroing and not target shooting in the true meaning of "competition shooting". I am a member of a rifle range, yet my rifles are not registered for target shooting, whe
  19. Hi Paul, I would be interested to know which brand of media you use. I have some here which is mixed with jewellers rouge and did try some of the stuff from the pet shop, which ended with me throwing 40 Lapua .243 cases (once fired) in the bin, due to the corn cob media becoming jammed in the cases, to such an extent it took 20 mins to clear just one case. I normally tumbler for a few hours, then US clean, the mess that comes out of the cases with the US cleaner has to be seen to be believed. It would be great to use a media in my tumbler that would clean as well as the US, any guidance would
  20. Callum, how did you get on with the PPU brass? John
  21. IMHO if you go to the trouble of checking neck run out / bullet run out, uniforming primer pockets, correctly trimming cases and all. Then it's madness not to make sure you are reloading clean brass. It never fails to amaze me how much crud actually comes out of the brass after a good clean. However there are plenty of reloaders who never clean their brass, as there are plenty of rifle shooters who never clean their rifle barrels. John
  22. I have a supply of them here but to be 101% honest, not much better than Grand Prix. My SBS hates black gold's. John
