Last weekend we had a "clay day" as normal I ended up with all the rubbish (empty clay boxes & loads of spent shotgun shells) and as normal for me, I dumped a whole box of empty shells in an empty clay box in the garage and thought no more of it. Last night I noticed that the box was half empty....... and the culprit turned out to be....... Master thief Coco the ferret! John

I am 101% honest with all sales, there is a slight crimp on the scope, but I mean slight. In fact I have withdrawn the scope and lamp from sale but forgot to do that on here. I have S&B scopes & Zeiss on my other rifle, so I don't fu(k around with optics, I've no real reason to sell the scope and certainly am not worried over a hundred sobs. Might sound a little self proclaiming but it's not my loss as it makes no difference if I chucked the scope in the bin. There is nothing wrong with the scope, it functions perfectly, never loses zero and the optics are great. Little more to be sai

Okay, new scope is on it's way, so last ditched attempt at selling this before it's goes on to the rim fire. Korean Bushnell 6-18x50 AO, took the scope off the rifle to night and noticed a VERY slight crimp mark from the mounts, as shown or tried to in photo. Scope has never lost zero, or given any reason for concern. The kit monster has told me I MUST put an S&B 8x56 on the rifle and who am I to say no And to go on top the scope.....a Night searcher 500 complete with fly lead for battery and a genuine red filter...how posh!! £100 for both plus the post

Wicked stuff!!! Just messaged them!! BIG THAKS FOR THAT!!! John -
Just to be sure, I'm guessing that this isn't 4x4? (as you said 4x2). John

If it works for you, then keep at it. In my experience, if you go prone, down wind(safe back stop permitting), rabbits don't seem to mind and they certainly take no notice of their dead kin folk either. I've "sniped" many rabbits in this fashion....gota go! off for an afternoon clay shoot! John

Got to agree with Deker on this one. There is an old saying " If you can get closer, get closer. If you can get more steady, get more steady" The ideal distance is as close as you can get. This differs from effective range, which can be defined by two parameters. 1) The actual effective range of the rifle which can again be split in to two parameters. a.) The realistic and achievable accuracy of the rifle. B.) The MV and terminal ballistics of the projectile fired from the rifle. 2) The real ability of the rifle shooter to achieve results using the chosen rifle. It i

Hi Rob, I think you will be struggling at the moment. Most Local authorities are cutting back and some are subcontracting their pest control operations. Most big companies have a recruitment ban due to the recession which is still hitting most of the high street shops, pubs, restaurants and clubs. That said, jobs are coming up but nothing like the quantity of five years ago. John

Will take this as per PM buddy. John

Have a look here : My link There is a small spring / ball bearing behind the magazine cut off. Sound like you haven't put something back correctly. John -
I've tried but for some reason I can not get neck tension on the cases but as the rounds were for a friend I didn't really try that hard to be honest. Not sure about damaging dies. John

Hi Dave, Okay, good glass cost money, simple as that. Cheap glass is exactly what it is, cheap. Now we got that out the way Lets compare good glass to cheap glass. First what is good glass? Zeiss, Swarovski, S&B, Kahles are good glass. Cheap glass, AGS, Simmons, Bushnell, Tasco are cheap, but you can go cheaper like SMK. People will tell you that their such and such scope is as good as a Zeiss, but then they likely have never owned a Zeiss or they wouldn't say that. A S&B 6x42 scope (£400 to £700) will out preform a 6-18x50 Bushnell even though the spec is less so

First off it depends how long your shotgun cert has to run. Some departments will do it if there is less than six months on the certificate. Simple to do, tick coterminous and fill out both shotgun & firearm application forms, you need counter signatories for both (they can be the same but must meet the criteria for the SGC) and you need to supply both sets of photographs (eight IIRC). Send off the forms and the plod will do the rest. However, a word of warning! Most Firearms departments are upwards of three months behind, some are quoting six months, which means you may be withou

In my opinion you have nothing at all to apologise for! Forums are great places to banter opinions, right or wrong. It's one of the biggest misconceptions in shooting and IMHO the reason is that you can let a person shoot with your rifle, but not your shotgun. It sounds crazy that a person can use your .308 but not your .410 but that's our laws. A few months back I invited a chap who works on the ARU's to do a bit of clay shooting on a local farm. His words were "no can do, I haven't got a shotgun cert, we could go up a clay club if you like". I don't for one minuet think a local bobby would

Massey, trust me on this. You would be better off calling the BASC and stating your concerns. Most Firearms officers do not have an in-depth knowledge of the law, yes they have a working knowledge but a lot of what they say often leads to misunderstandings which can be seen all over the Internet. Failing the BASC, give the actual firearms licensing clerk for your area a call at the firearms office. He/she may wish to speak to the head of the department but at least you will get the info direct from the horses mouth so to speak. Best of luck John

The whole debate has been across the Internet for years, with many ill informed views being taken as fact. The BASC has published the following with regards to using shotguns with no certificate: BORROWING SHOTGUNS Note: The law has recently changed due to “The Firearms (Amendment) Regulations 2010†– this document has been amended to incorporate the age changes given by the regulations. Sections 11(5) and 11(6) -Firearms Act 1968 allow non-certificate holders to shoot shotguns in the following circumstances ONLY: a) when using the occupier’s gun, on the occupier’s private la

And I presume, you would also openly state on a public forum, that *if* the original poster was to lose his SGC due to following your advice, you would be happy to reimburse 100% of his legal costs when he was trying to recover his SGC? There are far to many people who think (incorrectly) that because *they* have been give permission to shoot over land, it mean they can take a mate shooting. The high lighted bit " acting as an occupier " brings this in to line. Just because you have been told *you* can shoot, does not mean your buddies can shoot and simple "shooting permission" is a worl

Is this not the case anymore then? Why not quote the whole thing? Home Office FIREARMS LAW GUIDANCE TO THE POLICE 2002 Chapter 6 EXEMPTIONS FROM THE REQUIREMENT TO HOLD A CERTIFICATE Shot guns 6.14 Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on those premises in the occupier’s presence. The presence of the occupier is normally taken to mean within sight and earshot of the individual borrowing the firearm. The term “occupier” is not defined in

NO! he may only use the landowners shotgun, however this is notthe case with firearms, where he would be able to use a firearm with your supervision. John

Hi all, not so long ago I was trying my best to purchase a RedBone Coon hound, I really did set me heart on one but the reality is that it's just not going to happen. It would be easy to export a dog to the USA, and it's feasible to Import a dog from the USA but I lose the first year of the dogs life and if I am to be honest, I wouldn't put a dog through it. However, I have come up with the next best thing a Bavarian mountain hound, not as fast on the foot and not a intelligent as a Redbone, but better at tracking and hey I'm not as fast on the foot as I used to be So, has anyone or doe

Not sure I agree with this, there are all sorts of "other" problems like car insurance, which would need to be for business use, shooting insurance again business use and of course if anything was to go wrong, it seems a lot more sensible to claim compensation from a business than a private individual. Personally, I'd simply do it for free, and sell the carcasses to recover costs. Often then best way is to keep it simple. Just my opinion John

Nothing ever happened to sensible feeding and good handling, no need to read more in to the situation because someone purchases a treat for their ferrets IMO. John

Yes...and as my war weasels are molting now, I ordered a bottle. Nothing special really, the 'fruits' like the stuff, no real smell. Made from 100% oil. John

£50 for the first mole which also inc. the time of setting up. £10 per mole after that. John

The short answer is to get a job in one of the bigger pest control companies such as Rentokil, Ecolab, Mitie, Cannon. No previous qualifications or experience is needed, however competition for jobs is massive these days, so it's an employers market. John
