Do they have blues eyes tho? I used to work a giant hob, caught many rabbits with him, but he was a right s0d for skipping above ground and messing my nets up. Many moons ago...... me & the Mrs were working him on moonlight ground. Boxing day morning in fact, we had caught a good eight rabbits from a bury. I had good days with that hob, wish I had the time to do the same these days. John

You have obviously done a lot more ferreting than most I'll have to pay more attention and train my ferrets not to return until the bury is clear and certainly under no circumstances at all, disturb the nets But then again, I've not got proper working ferrets, mine are a different breed I guess, different species even, sort of soft on the outside and crunchy in the middle type ferrets, not even meat eaters, more vegetarian by your standards. A mate used to take the pi$$ out of new ferrets owners, they would come along and put a deposit down, he would offer to train the ferret t

I wasn't having a pop at you buddy I know exactly what you are saying about colours, as I also get fed up with people wanting specific colours. A ferret is a ferret, I've had problem ferrets but it's more to do with the ferrets being nippy. Never had any issues with ferrets working, fair to say some work better than others but colour has never been a factor but I can also appreciate that some people want a specific line. My mate "breeds" greyhound ferrets, I call them small He can fit four in a pint glass, they still kill in and lay up if he hasn't fed them before they hunt. However t

Bit harsh..... the guy was just asking after all. BTW I have two, but you are a tad far. John

I can't beleive the police are so strict!
HUnter_zero replied to mangy1983's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Difficult one this. We are all human, we all make silly mistakes but how many of us can honestly say with hand on heart that after a cold wet days shooting, the first thing we do is clean the gun and put it straight back in to a cabinet, my guess is no one! In the first instance, putting a cold gun back in to a warm cabinet is a recipe for disaster at any rate. In the second, most rifle shooters like to let the barrel soak over night. Did the keeper remove the bolt on the rifle? The forend on the shotgun? Are we really seeing all the facts, was it that he had put the guns on the t -
I've never really seen a bad ferret but have seen many bad owners. However I will give you the benefit of the doubt, if you could explain one thing. How do you select "the best" from day old kits? Personally, if I were you I'd get a job, never mind "training you're lurcher" that way you could afford to look after you're ferrets and get them a nice hutch instead of a kennel. John

Best Binoculars - Quality Vs Price?
HUnter_zero replied to TommyGun86's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Cheap high quality binoculars are a dream of many people. You can strive to find a pair but such equipment does not exist or more to the point, just by asking the question you mean to say is there anything that's as good as the top three for cheap money; the answer is no. However, not all is lost. Leica, swarovski, zeiss are for many the best money can buy and in more or less that order. The truth is you will be paying many hundreds of pounds just to squeeze that last drop of light, contrast and clarity. So there are many good binoculars that have excellent viewing quality, just not quite -
Not sure if mummy ever explained this to you. If a Hob and a Jill gets together in season, you will end up with kits, it's called mating and if you didn't want kits, then you should have forked out for a jill jab, saving money isn't the point. If you are poor, don't keep so many jills. What a joke.

Hi, can anyone please tell me how much food a 9 month old whippet should need to eat? I know it's an ambiguous question but, one rabbit? Two? My bitch had best part of 1kg of venison cubes, and is still hungry... (?) John

is there any such thing as a true black eyed white ferret?
HUnter_zero replied to bigbailey's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Yes, you certainly can get Black eyed whites. It's just another fad because people don't like pure albinos with 'red' eyes. There is no official classification for BEW/DEW ferrets, much the same as no real classification exists to quantify coat colour, much is prospective. I have seen ferrets classed as "Polecats" that to me personally look more sandy or ginger. A chap I knew used to specifically breed Black eyed whites and did well with several lines, until too many people knew about it and one night some fu*k wit stole the lot. I've seen Black eyed whites exchanged hands for as much as -
I owned an original 'T' bolt and would have another in a heart beat. My mate owns one now; and I'd buy it off him in a heart beat. Very accurate, very high quality. The straight pull back is quick and a joy to use in prone. John

Very nice indeed, I'm loving that T3 John

I've owned a lot of 4x4's and at the moment am having a love affair with a frontera, which is a poor mans RR The problem with a Fourtrak is finding one that has had an easy life. The trucks were designed for hard work and were able to take some serious punishment. If you can find a good one, grab it with both hands. As already said, got to be diesel. Not because of the cost of running but IMHO there are many other benefits to using diesel off road. John

Just wondering if anyone might know anyone who is looking to rehome or sell a whippet or small lurcher around South wales? Thanks John

can you tell me if this is any good please?
HUnter_zero replied to langouroux's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Break the costs down..... Most people (inc. me) use an ex-army sausage kit bag with a 10 gal drum pushed in side for a seat. If you put some foam at the base of the bag before pushing the drum in, you have a first class seat and bag to hold all your kit (well most of it). Kit bag - £5.99 army & navy store Drum - free local chip shop Foam free Hide poles - £1.99 at Wilco's (add a spike & kick plate costing around £2 per pole) Net - £20 eb*y Decoys - £3 each Total cost - 5.99 + 15.96 + 20 + 30 = £71.95p for exactly the same kit. Make your own mind -
Making a living out of shooting
HUnter_zero replied to PlasticJock's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi Dan, take it from someone who works as a full time pest controller, the answer is no. John -
It's almost imposable to have "low noise" and top notch off road ability. You need to be 101% honest with yourself and work out exactly how much off roading you will do and exactly what type of off roading. For simple muddy fields and farm tracks the Avon Ranger range of tyres are a good compromised between quality and cost. I have Avon 70 on my 4x4 based on % on road 20% off road because I only drive over stubble and down farm tracks. Insa Turbo remolds look good for the money. Money I guess is what it all comes down to, my Avons cost me £73 each fitted, just shy of £300 for all four. To m

Head keeper Advice

I don't belive that the guy said he didn't know anything about pheasants, more he wanted some advice. Never a silly question, just a silly answer as can be seen. John -
I was offered a 54 reg L200 last year for £1900, full service history and in perfect nick. Called just about every insurance company I could. Most would not insure it. Adrian Flux was the cheapest at just under £500. The road tax was a killer as well. I got talking to one of the call centre staff and asked why L200's are so expensive to insure. She said it was due to the "school run". Turns out that when the L200's became popular the mothers were using them for the School run, obviously it's not exactly a nippy run around which resulted in many claims, which in turn made the L200 a high

Drying cases after U/S cleaning was always a real pain in the rear. Acetone works a treat. What I do is to wait for a nice sunny day, when I can feel the garden wall warming up. I'll U/S a load of cases, give the cases a quick flush in tap water (although if you wanted to flush correctly you should use distilled water, which can be obtained from car shops, I don't bother). Pour a bottle of acetone in to a jug and drop the cases in, give them a swirl, take them out and stand the cases up on the wall. Ten minuets later all the cases are dry, clean and ready to be reloaded. That said, I usua

There are many "home brew" recipes out there, just do a search. Best purchased product I have used and IMHO is the best a man can get!! Micro 90 (My link ), try it don't try it it's up to you but this stuff beats the hell out of anything else I have used. One little tip..... Drying the cases, I have found a sure fire and super quick way to dry my cases. Nip to the £ store and buy a bottle of Acetone, after cleaning the cases sub merge in the acetone (which mixes with the water on the cases), take out to the garage or garden, now give each case a shake and place on some kitchen paper to dry.

As already stated, it's imperial. Go to the £ store and look for a set with both gun blue (metric) and silver (imperial), should cost only a couple of £ If you were closer, I have a box full of both. John

Hi Buddy, they do have permanent 4x4, but have electronically switchable diff lock. Tyres last forever on them. Since owning the Terios, I had to put two full sets of tyres on. No because of tyre ware, but because the first set lasted so long the tyre walls started to perish. Tax is going to be a sore subject. I have owned the Terios for five/six years (?)and as you say £125 road tax is great. I purchased a Frontera which I need to tax today, £200 + gutted. Not that it matters but I should have added that it's got two brand new calipers, new CV gaiter and new back box. I'd say that's the b
