  1. Yes, every terrier breed has foreign blood in it, that is not under discussion. But if you have someone who is always putting Lakeland's over Russell's to get that 'Boxie' type stamp, as some breeders I know do all the time, then for those who breed a proper type Russell it pisses you off, as they shouldn't really be in the same class. The dogs are clearly cross-bred terriers so there is absolutely no need for a White Lakeland Class, people should just be honest. Several years ago I had a young lad bring a clear white Lakeland into the Russell Rough/Broken class, so I sent him out
  2. Any breeder is as good as the last litter he/she has produced. If that pup which a lad brought from Nuttall and showed us on here recently is anything to go by, with it's Staffie head and brindle markings, I certainly wouldn't buy one of his dogs if that's what he is breeding now. He apparently said he gets one like it in every 20 litters.... Really ? Sounds a bit dodgy to me.
  3. The question was: White Lakelands, which class do thay belong in ? Easy..... They are a Cross Bred Terrier and that is the class they should be entered in. If the Class says Rough/Broken coated Jack Russell Terrier, then that is what it should have in it, and to enter a White Lakie in that class is cheating as they should be in the Cross-Bred Terrier Class. However, if the Class says Jack Russell Type, then it's acceptable but if there is also a Cross-Bred Terrier Class then that is still the class they should be in. If the dog is good enough to win, it will if the Judge is
  4. Couldn't agree more. Thanks for the comments on the dogs, I used to really enjoy taking the terriers out in a pack like the above pics, it was great fun to see them all working together. I should add it was a few years ago now though when it was legal to do such things. I never push mine into anything and let them work at their own pace as they mature. I encourage them of course but once they start to work it will all come naturally if they are going to do it for you. As you say, the more they do the better they get, as with anything. However, some don't though, not every dog has
  5. Nothing wrong with this lot and they had no problem finding this vixen dozing in the rushes. Perhaps you need to go out with some better Russell's next time.....
  6. Just seems like an excuse to make money if you ask me, on a dog which is no better than the older established breeds. There have been similar dogs to them for years....... They were called Cross-Bred Terriers and they used to be given away for nought. Now they've suddenly become fancy-dans and people charge big bucks because they have a registry and so-called lines. No thanks, I wouldn't pay Two Bob for one.
  7. £12 each to get in, no reduced entry fee and then pay to show/race dogs. Take a wedge with you, thats for sure! Thanks Wunwin, much appreciated Doubt I'll be going now then. I really don't see why we should contribute to the entertainment for the punters, pay £12 to get into the show then also pay to show your dogs as well. Rip-Off is a word that immediately springs to mind Cheers
  8. Simple Your first post is about getting a HARD terrier for your first terrier, no doubt your terrier mate has told you you need a hard terrier...therefore filling your head with shite! I bet he has hard dogs A smart dog that works his quarry well and dosn't get mashed up is a good dog to own, a dog with a face of scars or missing bits is great to show how tough he is but will spend most of the season in the kennel with his face like a balloon and no good for f**k all!! But hey it's your dog you can listen and have plenty quality digs a season or a handful of digs to a mashed dog w
  9. So what you are saying is that Plummers would pick up the scent of Charlie better whereas a Russell would pass it by, and that Plummers are also better pack dogs. What a load of crap. Around five years ago I used to regularly go out hunting with Jack Russell Terriers in a pack down south on reclaimed land by the sea, where there was no earthwork to be had. The most we ever used was 15 dogs but more often than not took around 12. We used to use them for bushing, enter them into the concrete drainage tunnels and through the reeds and rushes looking for Charlie. The dogs came from thr
  10. Does anyone know the score on entry ? If you are showing Terriers or Lurchers, do you get reduced entry fees ? Cheers Black Buck One
  11. I picked up a Yildiz S/S .410 second hand at the weekend (originally purchased by owner in June). I've had my eye on one of these for a while but had never seen a second hand one for sale. What a superb little gun, weighs 4.8 pounds, full size, not Junior cut-down, full and half chokes Does anyone else have one and what do you think of them ? Cheers
  12. Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September 2009 http://www.countryfairoffice.co.uk/CCF_mainpages/CCF.html Cheers
