  1. Well I suppose carrying toilet roll saves using the back of my hand, but I never carry any......
  2. Good one Smart Dog, does this mean that if you are pulled at night with lurchers, lamps and rabbits in the van that you are not done for poaching.
  3. Appreciated Jacob, I think that you have confirmed what I had suspected all along.Like myself, we would both be considered old stock and are not afraid to speak our mind.Is Vic still alive today, I sent him a bitch back in the 70s and I recall that she did quite well over there.
  4. only if you intend on getting caught The Toughguy does not get caught, but I hear that its becomming very difficult over there and Ive even heard of dogs being seized quite recently even though there was no game in the vehicle.

  6. lads what i need to know is how are thing fairing out as regards lamping, i have been hearingthat you have to carry written permission with you, is this true or what
  7. Thanks Skycat, compared to many even my other dogs he is rather unsightly lol but as long as he earns his corn that'll do for me,he has been a "type" i've been looking at owning since i had similar several years ago, they too weren't the best of lookers but they could fill the bag and then some ..he's from a long line of Minshaw bred's back to a Border Collie from Ireland who is used daily for working cattle although when he and his littermates were just seven weeks old the dam won the County Wicklow Sheepdog Trials so he is from decent stock...he has one or two little problems what need ironed
  8. Im very surprised to hear this..I bred from so called "working" purebred deerhounds,on two ocassions and produced pure shite. No disrespect but I dont think the young lad needs advice like that.
  9. Ive been using wheaten crosses many years...excellent all rounders. Pup of 8 months in picture wheaten/saluki cross collie saluki.
  10. Are these the Irish Dogs ???? Big looking dogs. Do you know the breeding??
  11. Jaysus thats a long journey, Cheers.
  12. Nice one Tomo. Did the Irish lads have dogs with them and if so, how would you rate them and did they catch much ?
  13. some advice-take a shovel with you. To over run a dog like that is sheer stupidity. Best case scenario-you carry the dog off the fields. Worst case-you bury the dog. Ive done all the numbers games and lost an exceptional bitch at the end of a grueling nights work. forget the numbers and enjoy the sport. 100 one dog-CANT BE DONE. When you say that you lost her stormboy, did you look everywhere.....she may have got a belt of an electric fence that was connected to the mains and died on the spot.
  14. She was a collie/greyhound dog, back on a three quarter saluki. I still have one or two dogs from her line. The most rabbits Ive taken in one night over the last 4 years or so, in Ireland, is less than 20. Its not for the want of trying Jack, but there are jack shit rabbits over here worth talking about. Im afraid that I have to travel across the water these days to achieve larger numbers of rabbits. 30 years ago ,the reverse was the case, as I had many English and Welsh lads come to hunt here with me and it was not unusual to be getting bags of 400 rabbits over a weekend. And no I certa
  15. I couldnt say for definite Karl as it was a long time back, but I guess over a 3 to 4 hour session. There were thousands of rabbits and they were easy runs. I ran this same bitch in a number of areas in England and Wales and the most I caught over there in one night with her was 52.
  16. It is possible....I've done it on two different ocassions with the same bitch. It was back in the early 1980s in County Mayo.It was in a place called Foxford and on the first time the bitch caught 101 and on the second, a fortnight later, she caught 108. There were a number of witnesses to this and quite a few lads from Wales were present at the time. I must admit that at least 50% would have been squatters and the most difficult part was getting them all back to the road for collection.
  17. i'm not even going to comment on those dogs! you obviously have some people telling you alot of bullsh*t I dont believe that you are in a position to be able to comment Hunter....on the contrary I do believe that the Black Assasin is quite knowledgable when it comes to history of running dogs, here in Ireland. Credit , where credit is due. I understand, that the reason the question (in relation to Philip Kings Dogs) was put in the first place, was to gain knowledge of the legacy of decent Irish lurchers and secondly, to establish the links to great lurchers across the water today. Had it
  18. There you go again...Bigun....Proving that you dont know your arse from your elbow
  19. Im well impressed, black assassin......you know your stuff alright
  20. not going to get in to this to deep but if king bred irishlady and she was so good how come he has not one of her breed in his yard, he has some whippet cross,. dogs he said he would never keep he also said he would never keep a saluki , but went in to them in a big way, but never really worked out for him.. Well theres is one thing Im convinced Muckey Paws....You dont know Philip...
  21. Well, well, well, Jacob ,theres a blast from the past. I presume you are talking about N. Dale who no longers keeps dogs ..what a pity. Yes it was some dog and I bred that dog and had no intentions of selling him but, an offer was made at the time that no one in his right mind would have refused. I often regretted that sale.....
  22. Jaysus Black assasin, hadnt got you down for a windy type.....Are there any of us left????
