For that money a scope & silencer included ? -
An old article. Do you think forums are now not being looked at. When an anti (they come in many forms) is about to stab you in the back there's no warning. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/lampers-are-the-thugs-of-the-countryside-550739.html You can't say I didn't warn you.

Cartridges/choke or me?
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to blacta's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Are you sure it was 30yds ? Try a heavier cart with more shot in it. 7's might be better but again try a heavier cart. Take you gun, or just the barrels to a gun shop & they'll drop a gauge into the choke & let you know what it is. I would of thought a SxS would have anything between 1/4 & 3/4 chokes fitted in any combo, even pairs. It might of been modified by a prious owner though. The good scores with the clays show everything should be Ok. Would it be possible that with the bird on the ground you aimed too low ? With fliers you have the gun pointing upwards, on the grou -
Couldn't agree more but you'r not respecting my side of it. Worse your argueing against it ????? Because of a gun being used the wrong way we now have to have a firearms licence. Because licenced guns were being used the wrong way we have more restrictions than ever. Because people don't like fox hunting we lost not only foxing with hounds but other dog hunting as well. Air gun ban talk for scotland etc etc etc. You have the right to shoot rabbits with air rifles by the skin of your teeth. Everyone on here hunts so fair enough to post about such things but on "general" forums other gun

Ok Lads. Fully agree with many of the words if not all. Been there & done that. I'll be very specific as I certainly don't want to still be moaning just for the sake of it just drop in what I think is a valid point. Many .243 shooters hit a rabbit & it explodes, thing is that's humane even if people think it's disgusting & a horrible way for a soft furry creature to go to heaven. It's humane & not even the RSPCA will argue for cruelty. Thing is Fox Hunting has gone, torn to bits while still alive fuelled it, so has hunting with dogs. Our rights for guns have slowly gone

Maybe I worded it a bit wrong but my main gripe still stands. It's the headlines, not the full description that causes grief. A newbie will see shot in eye & dead, they may not fully take in other comments & descriptions. They will also see the often quoted head shots advice, put two & two together = wrong advice. Antis, we all know how quickly they can twist bad words, totally ignore good words. Not a direct rant at the poster for shooting like that, more of please choose words a little carefully, especialy topic lead in words & topic descriptions. As a HMR user I know w

You aimed at the Rabbits eye ??? Did you puposely want to injure the RABBIT ??? All the advice given when a newbire asks about rabbit shooting is a brain shot, an eye shot is a bad headshot as It's a non lethal area. Ok so it does kill a rabbit as you have shown but not the best thing to boast about. I shoot rabbits & aim at a non lethal area. I shoot Rabbits in a non lethal area & boast about it. Every one to their own but if you was my shooting buddy, you wouldn't be for long. This gives the area for a rabbits kill zone. If you can hit a non lethal area then you can also hit

I've been looking into different pellets. The RWS Hobby pellet has been around for quite some time now. Good for targets & some use them fort ratting. Here's what they look like after the hit. http://www.youtube.com/user/gunvidder#p/a/u/1/8B3zifG6Ih8 CHRONY TEST http://www.youtube.com/user/gunvidder#p/u/12/cdcrlie9a-Y PENETRATION TEST. With subs zero'd at 60yds I'm 1.1/2 milldots down at 100yds, with HV's I'm 1/2 a mildot down at 100yds with the scope left as it is. H/V's are a bit wayward so I'd rather use subs.

bore cleaning with a boresnake ?
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to mjr88's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
When I first got my 22lr I used to clean it everytime it was used. I tried different ammo & allsorts so a clean between ammo types didn't harm any accuracy as I was just blatting lead down range & the bore soon dirtied back up. Now things are sorted I don't clean the bore. -

theinvisiblescarecrow replied to bratton's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips

HMR bullet head.
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to theinvisiblescarecrow's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Yes! The 17hmr is 0.170" the .177 is what it says on the tin, i.e. 7 Thou' smaller, pri*k in a shirtsleeve. Oh dear. Dick head in shirt sleeves has been there, got a t shirt to be a dick head in & on his way to wearing it out. Wise gentleman with pencil pushed up his bottom reads facts & figure written on paper to explain to dick heads this valuable information. Where did wise gentleman with pencil up his bottom get his information from. Dick head wearing a t shirt that he got while writeing information that the wise gentleman with pencil up his bottom is reading. -
Pulled a bullet to see what they looked like compared to a 22lr. http://www.youtube.com/user/gunvidder#p/u/5/pDSf0qbhjLE Curious about what happens if the HMR bullet head was fired from an air rifle. http://www.youtube.com/user/gunvidder#p/u/0/8u3RTfsfsoI

Decoy where ever. Last year I noticed a long time after the harvest pigeon were going to a few particular parts of the field, all the spilt grain had long gone. When I checked it was large clumps of Thistle plants knocked over. Just out of curiosity I gathered loads from the hedge over several days & put them out close to a hide area. Wasn't touched. They still gathered at the original clumps though.

.17hmr or .22lr
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to tillylamp's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I've got both. If It's breezy the HMR stays in the cab. By breezy I mean if I can see the leaves moveing. I don't mind the ammo price if I hit, a bit expensive to miss at over £10 a box. -
Rizzini shotgun
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to beagle1812's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Dunno the details but years ago I got a tatty one, a gunsmith tightened the action for me as It seemed a little loose. Fitted well & liked useing it so much I bought a new one. Still got it. -
Depends on how the zoom was on the camcorder. The road could be a long distance away. Regardless of actuall distance, not good.

Which moderator for 17hmr ?
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to niffkin's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
If I was short of money I'd get a SAK. If money wasn't such an issue I'd go for either a ASE, DM80, Whisper. The ASE gave me a POI change with the 22lr compared to other mods but was certainly a good one, I used it for quite some time but annoyed me because when plinking down my local range I had to aim off while shooting without the Utra fitted. My personal choice at the moment is the DM80 but I'm playing with a Hogan at the moment & the jury's still out. Here's a SAK on a HMR. -
QUESTION ???
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to HIGHAM's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
HW80 - good. Not sure about value but if It's less than £100 & shoots ok grab it !!! -
Correct. I found sub sections by accident & at first wondered what had happened. Obvious when you know they are there but I'm used to the BB's type of forums so I didn't even look.
-
I don't know if you look in the sub sections. I've only just realised there was such a thing. I thought air rifle section & that was it. Any way there's a good post about a rabbit kill zone so if your looking for rabbit shooting advice & like me you didn't realise there was a sub section, now would be a good time to explore.

Carting cartridges
theinvisiblescarecrow replied to halamrose's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Belt or pockets. I normally only take about 10 with me. It's a long walk to & from my shoot & I don't fancy carrying to many pigeon back. At harvest time If i can scrounge a lift I'll take 50 in two pockets & another 25 in a belt. -
A dimmer is more usefull than a filter. I prefer amber to red.
