First thing to instal is the stop whistle. Make sure this is 100% irrelevent of distractions (dummys, smells, claps, bangs etc). Once this is perfected, when he puts something up (rabbit, pheasant, skylark - whatever) blow the stop whistle. At this point he should be fairly close to you, so dont blow it too hard (loudness of whistle depends on urgency of the command). He should stop immediately. If not - nows the fun bit You have to run out and get him...dont make this a game - you have to mean business. Take him forceably by the scruff (do not hit him or shout at him) back to the sp

You seem as though you are doing all the right things, but nothing seems to be sticking. If she won't long line, then you could try a shock collar, as soon as you give the stop command and she ignores you, then it's an immediate nick on the collar for a couple of seconds. Not ideal, but you either persevere and go back to the very basics and keep at it and hope that it works, whereas the shock collar will stop her immediatley.

i have a 50yrd quickset for ferreting, that would be enough for me,i will be using it at night also, why not get a 50yrd + 25 yrd instead of 3 25 yrd then you have the best of both.hope this helps atb my net + basket came from jbs nets cheers but i think i might go for 3x25 as it a bit more versatile like. i was told master hunter is the place to go is he on this site ? no problem,it's what ever suits you,i have heard of master-hunter and he comes with a good name, here is the web site............. www.masterhunter.co.uk here are the prices 50 yd length 4z £135.00 <LI>50

Get the book "training spaniels" by Joe Irving mate, everything you need to know is in there

Just get out on your own with the shotty and the dog and do some walking, put the dog into cover away from your shot pattern and take a shot, even if there is nothing there. They soon get used to it, the dog must be on the stop and steady to game before you go it for real, you don't want to be peppering the dog if it chases the game

Good luck mate, hope you get your boy back

Nowt wrong with Alan's (Masterhunters) baskets at all. Just put a small loop of the bungy cord he supplies around the poles when carrying them. You can run backwards pretty fast with his basket and the poles fly out with ease, rather than those square pole holding baskets that you have to stop and pick out. Plus Alan's is a lot lighter allround, and his DPM bag is better than a net and doesn't catch on anything. Horese for courses really. Iv'e found Alan to be a really helpfull guy and offers a great service and does actually deliver when he says he will aswell. Unfair to knock

cant say I agree with ye ther mate, mines 3/4 beddy and shes the best bitch i ever had, she was poor [bANNED TEXT] i got her but if ye hav any idea how to train a dog they can be top class!! Well said :clapper:

I've got Oakbark in my lines and mine work fine no bother. The dog should do what it needs to do with the right training and seeing game, the pedigree means nothing IMHO

Looks awesome mate, well done.

I would like to see a rabbit hit and drop at 50+ yards with 10ft lb Why push the envelope to the max and risk distressing the quarry? I have 11.5ft and will only go to 40 yds max as i know then i could get a clean kill. I have shot at 50 yds and dispatched cleanly, but only when there was zero wind and i knew the holdover precisley. Just my opinion that's all, but fairplay to the fella for taking the advice

Load of bollocks being mouthed off here, i have 8 dogs (6 in kennels) and i have two in the house. It doesn't make a blind bit of a difference to the working ability of the dog and that is what was being asked. Yes the mess is easier to contain in the kennels, but as for "PURE WORKING ABILITY" then not a difference. As has been said, if the dog has it in it, then it will do the job wherever it has decided to sleep/stay. I've had a house dog out on the lamp in minus 5 and it hasn't made a difference, if it's cold it's cold, if it's warm it's warm. Or do some guys like to make their -
Like others have said, check for even the slightest injury, such as a small thorn embedded somewhere that maybe "nicking" as she turns, take it back to basics and re-train, only enter on easy and not too far away quarry, loads of time on a flirt stick witha skin, then try again after a long long walk etc.. If nothing happens then use the dog in the daytime for ferreting/bushing etc.. if not then either keep as a pet or rehome as a pet, but definately no PTS as some have said.

Good luck with the sale But using words like, Regretably i need to move on my 16wk, sounds like the dog is a problem, but again good luck with the sale. Hi, there is no problems with the dog at all, like i said i need a terrier now as mine is laid up, i also have another 6 dogs inc 4 lurchers and this is the only pup. It's the end of the season for me on certain quarry i am sad to say that this is the only way i can replace my terrier who is laid up at the moment. This pup will make a great hunting dog, as he has the parentage. Both parents can be seen and looked at in the fi -
Regretably i need to move on my 16wk old dog pup, fully wormed, jabbed etc... I have both sire & dam, 110% day & night. Pup is doing well on basic commands, sit stay, etc.. and is not bad on short retrieve. Sire is broken coated and 23TTS, Dam is smooth and 24TTS, so pup should be around the same and make an awesome ferreting and rabbit lamping dog. I have need for a working patterdale as my other terrier is layed up at the moment hence the reluctant sale Price for pup is £150 PM me for details pics etc... Located in West Midlands

Cos they are tosh, mine has been a pain since day one. Put it on search, get a load of beeps, then onto locate and it makes a fart noise and goes off. I can only use it on search. Can't wait for someone else to do one of these instead of Deben

Well done fella
