Amoxicillin or pennicillyn tablets
jusar whippets replied to stoaty's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Like Tuddy said Ibruprofen works for muscle or pain relief, (metcam/petcam) is the same for inflammatory stuff. U can also use Calpol aswell. Amoxicillin/Cephalexin/Synulux etc... Is an antibiotic for infection control etc.... Good old salt water on a wound with hydrogen peroxide diluted to clean the wound out is s good as anything. -
I'm using Red, Amber, Blue & normal White. I've found if you use one colour for a few nights then the mongs & quarry get to know the score, so I switch & change every night. I also drill a 32mm hole into the centre of each of the coloured filters, which helps not having to flip the filter off. On the smaller places I use the Clulite Blazerlite with te pop ups, but on the bigger stuff I use the 240. I've also been playing more with the dimmer and this has also worked well. One step ahead lads eh

Pushing on
jusar whippets replied to North Country Boy's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
She may have had too much work and is getting frustrated maybe? Take her back a couple of steps and get her in an enclosed space and send a few dummies out for her and reinforce the stop whistle. If she doesn't respond then as your in a controlled place you can get to her and reinforce the command and drill this into her. Some dogs are suited to beating and some are suited to picking up, it can be quite confusing for a dog not to be able to "run in" one day whilst picking up a runner and then stop to flush the next whilst beating etc... Good luck anyway -
Any decent boot and a pair of "seal skinz" socks. Job done

picking up
jusar whippets replied to brother's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
And this is Brother who's go a proper picking up dog. Rest my case! -
Brother! Who says I get that for picking up? It states loading clearly! If I load (and I do regularly) I take my car to the guns house (if local) and I collect them in their own vehicle and chauffeur them to the shoot. I carry all the carts/shotgun etc... And I load & assist that gun on the day (whole day) and drive them around and generally be at "beck & call " Many times I have picked a gun up at 6am, done the shoot and not gotten back home until 1am as the guns and friends wanted to go for more drinks after the shoot. Yes I have sat in the car waiting whilst they all

The Cost of a Lurcher Pup
jusar whippets replied to heart of wales's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Err Me no comprenda! Mates had pups for free, and tear are good mates (where) and they pulled out, and like I said one even moved the pup on (would you have given him a slap?) If I could have, all 9 go for free to good mates then I wouldn't have given a toss what it cost me to breed, just that some see fit to take the piss. One lad who I charged for a pup, he came over with his mrs, I took em to the pub, paid for a meal & drinks, then took em lamping with my dog, them the day they were coming to collect the pup I took em ferreting with the dam. How much more could I do? And -
The Cost of a Lurcher Pup
jusar whippets replied to heart of wales's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thus makes me laugh chronic. There are lads on her saying "vie never bred a littter but if I did they would be free" I bred a littler recently from my own good stock as mates said they wanted some, i wanted a bitch and I basically had 3 to find Homes for. 9 pups later, and 4 mates jibbed with an all manner of excuses (tossers) These pups had the best fresh food for nearly 9 weeks, and i added up it cost me around £500 to feed and worm etc.....they were socialised well and proper with my other 10 dogs, and all toilet trained aswell. I started at £250 then dropped to £150 -
some advice please from the lurcher men
jusar whippets replied to calum henderson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Err, I would heed on the side of "steady's the word" I know all of the pups inside out, and they need time to mature. They have massive prey drives and need to be controlled in an environment where they can learn to be the best they can at a steady pace. No need to rush them. Look at it another way, nobody ever ruined a Dog by taking time, bur many have been ruined and jacked on quarry because of owner frustration and pushing a pup on when it needs to mature and just be a pup. If you were a boxer at age 14 and kept being battered you would soon learn to throw the towel in, just like a -
some advice please from the lurcher men
jusar whippets replied to calum henderson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Cal As I bred your pup, I would heed some advice here, the most important advice I can give you is as the last post, make sure that the dog he's with is fully on the button and only take him out for an hour and watch maybe 2 runs then get him back and work on the recall retrieve 3 times a day for 15 mins each session. You have 8 or so years with the dog and it pays to take your time with them in the long run. Don't get frustrated and try to bring him on too quickly or he will go backwards mate. All the best pal. -
The only ones i have seen like this are the ones that spend their lives in kennels and get a 10 minute run in the garden and then taken out into the field and expected to do the bizzy just cos they are a "Lurcher" My Saluki/Grey was a late starter and didn't really want to know at all, then one day it was like a switch was flicked on, and no stopping her now.

Sorry about your loss? Why couldn't you find your dog 10 yards from where you lost him?
