  1. Now this is informative info., especially for those who did not grow up hearing these sayings regularly. Where did "Piss Poor" come from? Interesting History They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & Sold to the tannery.......if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor" But worse than that were the r
  2. cbf 1000 comfy nimble nice bike can ride it all day.I sold one on a 2011 plate not long ago for a mate had it for a week thought it was a good allrounder .
  3. Just come back from there ,Spent a couple of hours having a good look around.Took a ferret and the dog .There is really only one bank that can be ferreted about a 1/4 of a mile long. There is a stream running down the other side but in the top end there is a small foot bridge and by the look of the runs most of the bunnies use this to cross to the other side.Tried the stinker down a few burrows and bolted a couple of dozen from different warrens. It looks to me that they are made up of lots of unconnected warrens.I am by no means a seasoned ferreter but with all the advice from you guys i am qui
  4. Plant a pig in every town. WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA!!! The Spanish may not be the world power, but they still have some good ideas! This man is burying a dead pig. Make sure you read the explanation at the bottom. https://mail.google....1.1&disp=emb People in the USA , Canada , the UK and Australia need to take a lesson from the Spaniards. In Seville , Spain , local people found a way to stop the construction of yet another mosque in their town. They buried a pig on the site, and made sure this would be known by the local press. Islamic rules fo
  5. The thing with Hancock dogs is the fact they're from non-workers and in an ideal world you'd like your working lurcher to come from workers, if you're looking for a collie x and can't source it from workers then theres a good chance Hancock will be able to sort you. You get the exact % percentage you want and apart from the odd horror story you'll get a well put together dog then the rest is up to you. how much does hancock charge for a pup A couple of guys i know have just had pups of him charged them £230
  6. Thanks for sharing the advice Salukiman. We had decided to long net it first then we were going to ferret it.Think we will give your plan ago would be good if we could get enough to get the permission without having to get to the ferreting bit.
  7. She was just over a year old in this photo and was making a cracking pot filler. Nice dog to be around, sadly did not make old bones killed herself at two and a half years old.Must admit i am a fan of this cross fast enough for most things and plenty of brains to run smart.I know a lot of folk reckon a 1/4 collie 3/4 grey is a better cross, but for me i like 5/8 3/8 or first cross dogs.Don't reckon i would keep another three quarter cross unless the ban was lifted.
  8. No its a busy railway.the warrens are mostly at the edge of the field in a dip and not many holes on the banking I'd be very wary of using dogs in that scenario IMHO Y.I.S Leeview He is a steady dog and have had a few from there on the lamp but don't think I would take the chance when we ferret it.No of a lad that had his terrier killed on this bit of land a few years ago, ran up the bank got hit by a train.
  9. Thanks for all the advise guys.Sounds like it will be a breeze what with my four fat ferrets and me geriatric mate and a couple of dozen nets. At least the dogs ferret friendly,.got a feeling its going to be a bit of comedy show.think i had better get me hand in my pocket and get a bit more gear and find someone with a lot more experience
  10. Thanks for all the advise fellas. Should be a breeze then me with four fat ferrets and a couple of dozen nets and No its a busy railway.the warrens are mostly at the edge of the field in a dip and not many holes on the banking
  11. Obliged for the advice Muddy.I only keep four ferrets to do the odd bit of ferreting and bolting for the dogs,We would like to make a good impact and try and secure this land for the future.Looks like we are going to have to find some help to clear these warrens.what you say about a couple of gangs working to the middle makes a lot of sense to me would like to clear it as quick as possible.
  12. I am mainly a dog man but do a bit of ferreting and have been offered the chance of a couple of thousand acres of land to run the dogs on,but it all depends on us clearing a thirty acre field. This field as a railway line running two sides of the field and the warrens run along the side of the railway.this place is riddled with warrens and is hard to tell were one finishes and the next starts. This goes on for about a quarter of a mile on both sides.been over a few times now and cleared a lot of the brambles out and had a shine on the night and this place is alive with rabbit so need to make a

  21. Have had a couple of Hancock dogs would I have another one yes I think I would. He sells a lot of dogs and I don't think they all go to one off owners. If the majority of his stock were under par surly he would have gone out of business a long time ago. And at £230 a go he must be doing something right .
  22. Lost one of my lurchers a few years ago to Leptospirosis not nice.If dogs are going to see a lot of rats or are in water a lot think it is a must to make sure they are vaccinated against it.
