The Talpex sorted him out today,as they say very good on difficult moles, going to invest in a few more of these traps.
-
Thanks all good points raised,Putanges are new to me a learning curve with these traps, been very successful with the Trapline traps but find them expensive so thought id try the Putanges, theTalpax should sort him though.

I had a strange day today put a few putanges down was expecting one mole today but found that the mole had pushed under the putanges on two of my three sets,so assuming that this mole had wised up I reset with a Talpex, or can anyone can shed any light as to possibly why the mole push under the Putanges.

Never thought of checking in tunnel when trap strung and not court, will do from now on.

Had first session with Putanges this week found a few I assume to be self sprung still a learning curve with this type of trap for me,out of 5 sets managed one mole so not to bad though,it was a perfect catch just behind or on shoulders, got another 4 sets to look at tomorrow, will be ordering more.

I always cook em up to get rid off any nastys and then share them with dogs, but I do feed em raw chicken carcass and wings quite often as well. But rabbit is far there favorite meat.

Hello toxo, the .17HMR is the perfect bunny round if want to cover all distances, up to150 mtrs its pretty much point and shoot, every firearms dealer I know recommends using Hornady V-Max I've never had a problem with .17 ammo, its reasonably priced for bunny shooting provided you not shooting them in large numbers,I've shot this round in all weather conditions and never had a problem, in conjunction with .22 subs you have in my opinion a perfect pair combo for all bunny situations.Anything above these two calibres is I consider over kill and over expensive for rabbits.

You either love or hate these night vis set ups,yes they can take a few outings to get used too,I personally like them, been shooting Wolf for a couple of years now on my rimmys ,the advantages I find are you can shoot from almost any position you don't have have the eye in line with rifle which can be a big plus at times in my opinion, the Tv screen I find doesn't put quarry off,but like all IR units the infra red will emit a dull red glow the more powerful the bigger the glow which on the odd occasions late in season I found can put a weary Fox off, with the wolf though you can reduce the powe

Which Escort For Practical Shotgun?
goldfinger replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The second one. -
On bunnys tried and tested .22 subs cheap as chips and very quiet and a pleasure to shoot and for the distant ones .17 hmr Hornady V-Max won't break the bank, save the bigger stuff for charly.
-
I use .17HMR on rabbits out to 150 yards never had a problem with wind drift an inch either way there not going anywhere, as for noise/cost/ probs with .17hmr I find that not a problem ammo quite reasonably priced,I do prefer .22 subs though the perfect bunny round in my opinion.,anything bigger unless you want fox as well is I think over kill.

I have the Wolf ands its more than enough for my rimfires, id out to 300 mtrs plus at times the unit has accounted for a few foxes this year ,plenty of rabbits,it has a good clear image as well, just one to remember though make sure you got a scope with parallax adjust for focusing,i've used it for ratting on my air rifle was great fun,Viper should perform just like the rest of the night site range but the id range on vermin will be less due to to its ir range,as they say 100 metres.I personally would recommend the night site range they perform well and are great if you want to swop between rif

I sometimes use my NS Wolf with a t67 940nm turning off the 840nm ir on the unit,I still get same distance but not as much field of view, it then gives out a less red glow from ir ideal for weary charly, downside to this is the added extra weight. The extra distance when using rimfire given out by some ir units is always good to have especially for spotting whilst stalking or using a centre fire round.

I use a nitesite Wolf on my .22 and .17 hmr awesome bit of kit seeing out to 300 plus depending on terrain perfect bunny basher good one fox as well, good clear image good field of view, need a scope with parrelax adjust though also I find that you don't have to use an expensive scope to best out of unit,I got mine on a 45 quid scope on .17 with no probs at night used it on 200 + scopes still gone back 45 quider on .17,on my .22 I use it on a Nikon Prostaff it doesn't have parallax adjust its ok because all my.22 shooting is only up to around yards at night.

Have look at this, I made myself one (tripod) I use it whilst out stalking https://youtu.be/uqsQjpx87zo

Deciding On Rifle - Which One?
goldfinger replied to gazandjen's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It all depends on what your quarry is mate .I would go shotgun first mate if your successful with shotgun cert then more than likely you will be ok for FAC ?,then I would suggest first .22 rimy a very quiet cheap round to feed, Ideally go for .22 and then .17hmr they both have there places, I got both rimys and use .17hmr for the longer ranges, but by far for me .22 is my favourite round on bunny's I find this round more satisfying to use. -
Mtc Vs Swarovski With Digital Night Vision
goldfinger replied to bbjaccov5's topic in Night Vision & Thermal
I've swapped a £300+ for £65 scope on my.17 Hmr Nightsite Wolf set up and getting for better results as said sometimes spending hundreds on a scope is not always necessary, all in all though the dearer quality scopes are far better for daytime use I find, horses for courses as they say. -
Shooting Over Public Footpaths
goldfinger replied to brucemyster's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Some members of the public are so ignorant when it come to country ways, calls to the police I wonder of there intentions at times.I remember but this was a very long time ago on a National Trust park with working farmland on it as well, a polite notice that said,(This park has a working Farm on it and you will here the occasional gun shot),Maybe notices need to go back up,save police a lot of there precious resources and time. And maybe cut down on these sometimes dubious calls with I think have other motives.
