  1. spun nylon and 6z plus handle same as hemp without rotting,i had hemp years ago and learned the hard way even if you hang them up to dry they still dont last mate good luck matt Quick tip for hemp nets mate, come the end of the season soak them over night in some old engine oil then hang them up somewhere to dry, do this the end of every season and they'll last forever ATB
  2. Met a guy out ferreting a few years ago with what he said were french purse nets, these were about four feet in length and two pegs instead of one on each end of the drawline only saw one rabbit bolt but the net worked with both rings travelling along the drawline to enmash the rabbit...hope this helps ATB Stones
  3. Have worked a few on the lamp but these were racing dogs ok for the red fellahs but as for RLTH would imagine they'd be ok though brought on from pups & encouraged to use their nose & hunt up etc.
  4. Take her the beach mate and play with her in the shallows gradually getting deeper always worked for me with whippets & terriers (plus the salt water does their feet the world of good)
  5. Anything fur or feather mate, mine get alot of roadkill hares, rabbits ,phesant, duck etc also try and get well in with local pigeon fliers and offer to take any birds they're killing off ,word soon gets round the other racing clubs and before you know it you've got a freezer full also feed mine fish from sea fishing trips just make sure there's plenty of fresh water available
  6. In the winter cover them with a long thermal sock doubled over....always worked for me
  7. where do you do your shopping mate ? I'll get up there with a spare wallet so they'll have to mug me twice
  8. Nice looking team you've got yourself there mate what are you thinking of keeping back dog or bitch pup ?
  9. Salt water (I use sea water, but I live close to the coast, find it keeps their feet in good condition too) then a good soaking of dettol or tcp
  10. Used to go ferreting with a lad years ago who had a norfolk/russell bitch mad keen on rabbit & rat she must have only been 9" to the shoulder. She only had two faults, the first being we were constantly having to dig her out and the second with her being so short on the leg after a long day (we were kids then so all public transport)she'd be goosed and we had to carry her home every time.Cracking dog for working bramble though.
  11. is it ok to mix 2 feeds together i feed mine beta ghd but they looked good on wagg worker too is it fine to mix the 2 together ? atb BB Don't see why not mate...I've been mixing different feeds together for a few years now, you've just got to keep an eye on their shite and change the feed if it's loose & smelly  ATB
  12. I get 3 sacks at a time Beta greyhound 29%, Pets at home active worker 24% and Wagg complete worker 23% mix the lot together and store it in steel bins in a cool place.I feed this to both whippet and terriers and find it produces good copact stools and have also fed it to the ferrets as a standby occasionaly you just have to make sure fresh water is available at all times.
  13. Give it a feed on something fresh and bloody (pigeon or rabbit) but don't give it access to any water , after an hour or so take her out of the hutch and give her a drink from a bowl , whilst she's drinking keep picking her up and stroking her letting her crawl through your hands to get back to the bowl after a few sessions of this she'll stop biting and with constant handling will quieten down, it's always worked for me even with feral ferrets we've found when we've been out.....ATB mate
  14. Love ratting with ferrets , I only use jills and to date (touch wood!) haven't lost one through a mauling off a rat. I only use jills with a season behind them on rabbit and if they don't want to know don't force them, the majority of rats will bolt before a ferret but eventually you'll come up against a nursing doe with young not old enough to escape or one which has just made it's nest and is heavily pregnant that's the time you'll find out just how keen your jill is ! Also if I know the rats haven't had access to poison I'll throw a dead one in the ferret box to let them have a munch on on
  15. A tory in a labour uniform & a lying b*****d to boot...such a shame John Smith passed away when he did, think he would have been a prime minister to trust who wouldn't have led us into a war on false pretexts (when we all know the real reason was so the yanks could loot someone else's oil fields and stock pile their own).Browns no better the c--t can't even spell and people wonder why the bnp are starting to get so much support...thatcher might have been a tw*t but at least we knew where we stood with her (in the dole office!).Feel so sorry for people who've lost loved ones in a war that
  16. Have used ferrets on rats myself for over 25 years and would advise anyone doing so to only use small/medium sized jills (never seen a hob small enough to fit down a rat hole !) and never force your jill to ground cos if she isn't willing to take the battle to the rat and she can't retreat she'll come out ripped to bits. I only use jills after they've had a season (roughly 1 year old) and never try to force them should they quit (they'll still work rabbit and breed next years ratting ferrets ). I personally think the terrier/ferret combination when the rats are bolting well takes some beating
  17. Good job the road gang weren't working in Hartlepool
  18. Good idea theres loads of bumpkin pigeon fanciers around here lol,do you cook it or serve it raw Raw mate, like I say just defrost them and pop em in the hutch, feathers, legs the lot all you'll be left with the next day is a load of feathers, mine even eat the feet !
  19. Always feed mine on pigeon, try and find someone who races birds in a club, come the end of the racing season every flier thins out his stock, offer to collect any birds they've destroyed to save them binning them, word soon gets round and depending on the amount of clubs in your area you could end up with literally hundreds of free ferret dinners , I freeze all mine then use them when the jills are nursing, just defrost them and drop em in the hutch, they really bring on a litter of kits as everything they need is in that bundle of feathers , just make sure there's plenty of fresh water and
