What do you think about this answer ?
blackfox replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Im sorry mate but id have to agree with that.... To me it would be like turning up to shoot wearing jeans & T-shirt, if its rough shooting thats fine but i would never take a semi-auto on a driven formal day. Also do notice that he/she has been invited, thus comments may be made about the decision to bring this guest on bord. I.e not make a very good first impression and also its not very sporting... Thats my take on it anyway, im going on a driven shoot on new years..... with a O/U. Sam -

Great shooting and a Great read, thanks Sam -
Well as most on here know i LOVE IT. I had a bit of hassle with factory ammo but am now starting to tighten the groups, im still pretty new to this reloading stuff. I dont find much trouble with wind-drift. The scope im using is a Konus Mpro 8.5-32x52, please dont be put off its a very goos scope, ok its a little hazey at max mag but 32x is pretty intense, im usually around the 18-20 for general messin about. I also really like the blue illuminated mildot reticle. I did have a Docter 8-25x50 which was excellent in the day but the crosshairs were so fine that it was useless when lamping. I

Blackfox - I think you are picking on me. You know full well that I plan to build a .204 special when I get my FAC back. You know full well that I plan to handload. So you keep on showing the results you are getting with your handloads in your new .204 just to upset me. And now you put up a picture of your gun, which is 'Kin Beautiful. One can go off people. My sig was meant as a joke but you are making it come true! More to the point, have you tried the 30gr Bergers on birds?. I know you mainly shoot fox but I would like to hear about the results of the really fast rounds on feathered qua

Hello, not a problem, the mod is a PES T-12, its very very good IMO if a tad heavy. Its made of stainless steel so should last for a while too. Cheers Sam

Good shooting there. Sam -
hey, im a very big fan of the .204. You will have to start reloading to get the best out of it. Its becoming alot more popular round now, if its a 1 in 12 twist you will need a 26" barrel, also you would be best having a Varmint heavy barrel. I shoot mostly from a Truck or Quad so the weight for me is not an issue, if you are walking about with it just get a decent sling. Horses for courses and all that, but i love the .204 as a all round very flat flying Vermin/varmint calibre. Get a decent mod and its pretty quiet too Cheers

Hey Keith, well i home load and am using Sierra BlitzKing 39grns and 27grn of H322. I must say that when i was using the factory Hornady 32 & 40s the damage was very different if i had hit a fox in the chest then there wouldnt of been much damage at all, but scince the reloading i have impoved the accuracy & damage caused sooo much. The load im using at the moment seems to do alot more damage .TBH i wish i started home loading sooner. Cheers

well, i was bored last nite so decided to go for a little walk withe the lamp and .204 ruger it wasnt raining but the ground was sodden, i didnt take the shooting stick and was shooting off the bipod so i get very messy. Long story short called this one in with a goood old widgeon whistle. ive got a wam on order, anyone use one of these? i got the idea from watching a Robert Bucknell video on youtube. hit it at about 100yrds right in the swede, what a mess... Warning the bottom pic is very graphic...

No not at all mate, lithium batteries are over rated. They do not last that much longer than a standard battery, they are a big money making con, so the only advantage they have is the leightweight.Luke. Well ive got one and i love it, use it with my blitz 240 Variable power, ive never ran it out whilst out shooting but always carry a small back-up light. As said they do tend to power off very quickley when running out. its light - mine just pops into my Barbour pocket and you dont feel the weight of it at all, charges quicker than standard acid. A friends got a deben ma

Ruger 204 vt or howa 1500 varminter.
blackfox replied to higgsy's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The thing to do with the .204 is to find the correct bullet that you gun "likes" mine has a taste for the 39grn Sierra blitzkings. Im pretty new to reloading and i love it, using 27grn h322 and am starting to get some pretty good groups. Factory ammo is pretty cheap, i was paying £19 for 20 Hornady 32grns, it just didnt perform as well as it should so i started reloading and to try and reduce costs a little. The blitzking heads were £18 for 100. Speed wise im not sure but its easily fast enough and very very flat shooting. ive had plenty of foxes with this cracking little number they drop li -
Logic, a very good reply, i agree with the the of the heavy/varmint barrel. Its also cost wise as factory ammo is cheap compared to .22-250. Also there is noise - my .204 with a pes t12 is sooooo much quieter than my mates .223 with a T4 and a .22-250 with a t8. Reloading uses less powder, i was also told by firearms if i wanted a .22 CF i would have to do a DSC-1 even tho at the moment im not intrested in deer. Its very desctuctive on foxes! get the [bANNED TEXT] bullet sorted for your rilfe and its flatter than a .22-250

.204 ruger Strikes again, god i love the 39grns!!
blackfox replied to blackfox's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Yeah my girlfriend is pretty cool with it all, i just tell her its "Give and take" you drag me shopping for shoes i drag her to the gunshop, i watch eastenders with her & she can be my cheif lamp holder. Shes pretty keen for a little look walking or in a truck but i dont think she could cope with 2+hrs walking round. LOL If the weather is dry this week i should have a few lamping outings this week - by the weather forecast thats a big IF!! Bob.243 - you thinking of getting a .204?? Cheers Sam -
I had seen another fox sniffing around the chickens... so last nite after a fablous bit of roast pork followed by copius ammounts of apple crumble i convinced the girlfriend to come be my lamp holder. Anyways the fun started before we got out of the garden it started raining "im not getting soaked cause you want to shoot a stupid fox" came from behind me, i had the lamp to begin with otherwise she tends to light up the whole village with it!!! when we got out to where the chickens are there was another noise "fine dont worry about me i dont need the light to see where im walking" i told he

Hey, i got a .204 ruger. It was a SPS Varmint but i changed the stock as soon as i got it, didnt even try out with the old stock. I bought a HS Precision stock off ebay.com had it sent over from the states, its a lot cheaper. I know that a lot of the guys on the guntrader.co.uk forum say to change the stock and trigger... i went on their advice I know its not really the answer your looking for but it did make it into a "free floating" barrel Cheers Sam

Well i had one on my CZ .17HMR when i bought it from sportsman guncentre, it didnt seem as good as the SAK that a mate had on his. Now it sits on a friends .22lr, personally im sticking with a SAK Hope this helps Sam

Hey, ive got one and i love it. Its quiet compared to .223/.22-250 with a good mod. Very accurate, ive just found a load that works very well in my Remington 700 39grn Blitz Kings also using smaller ammounts of powder make it more economic to reload. If your homeloading you will get the best from this calibe, its very flat flying. Its more about finding the bullet that suits your rifle, mine only seems to really like the 39grns. Have a look at my other posts for a bit more info. Rabbits tend to explode, nedless to say foxes dont like it... There
