  1. I went for the first time in about four years. A couple of mates of mine know Charles Jardine, so we watched his fly fishing demos. There were the usual tat stands, but amongst them were a couple of gems. There was a wildfowling stand, where the guy was selling the U Caller with speaker and two cards for £49. Unsuprisingly he was selling loads. He also gave me lots of advice on the best way to use them. Annoyingly I had just bought one earlier in the week off Ebay. Had a long chat with the guy on the BASC stand about his rifles - very serious kit and he was a genuinely good bloke. Also h
  2. Thanks for the replies. Regarding the twist, I think I heard that they were originally 1:12 but they then changed that to 1:9. However the latest models have reverted to 1:12. I don't know how true this is. Regards Sib
  3. Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of keeping sub 50 gr, so I may give these a try. Sib
  4. I am just about to purchase my first .223, a Tikka T3 (not sure whether to go for Hunter or Lite model) Normally with my CZ rimfires (.22 and .17HMR) I bought a load of different ammo and found out what was best, namely Eley Subs and Hornady 17grn, by trial and error. However, with the cost of the .223 rounds, I do not want to buy loads of different brands/weights so I was hoping someone could give the benefit of their experience in this. I will be using the rifle for foxes out to a maximum distance of 200yds and from what I have been told, 55grn should be the maximum load for best accura
  5. Another tick from me. Best rifle I've owned. Enjoy. Cheers Sib
  6. I agree with davy that the HW100 is a heavy gun, but in thumbhole carbine form it balances beautifully. Also, shooting fronm a Landrover (with little room to move) it is perfect. The loading system is excellent and the accurracy is superb. Cheers Sib
  7. Very well put. I agree 100% with your sentiments. Sib
  8. Sako 85 in .223. It has a 22 inch barrel with a 1 in 12 twist and a Quicksilver titanium moderator. Cheers Sib
  9. Welcome to the dark side Davy. The HW100KT is my favourite rifle. You'll be struggling to return to the AA. With the full description you gave of your position, perhaps you should have titled this the Corvid Kama Sutra! Cheers Sib
  10. Good point re Charlie. I was talking to my local gamekeeper this morning. He told me he has killed more foxes with a .22LR with subsonic ammunition (head shots)than any other rifle he owns, including his state of the art .223. He puts this down to the fact that he always has it with him and his fieldcraft allows him to get the foxes in to about 60yds, which he considers to be near the maximum for the rifle/bullet combination on foxes. It certainly gave me food for thought, as I am having rabbit problems in our horse paddocks and was getting a .17 HMR for that, but now I may spend more
  11. People don't choose generally .17HMR over .22 rim fire. Both have different qualities and many people choose to use both. A moderated .22 Rimfire is very quiet and much more suitable where noise may be an issue. A .17 HMR will provide the extra 100 yards when shooting rabbits/crows etc but with the distance come the crack of the bullet. Wind is also a factor the HMR bullet is affected much more than the .22 rimmy as is cost of the bullets (HMR being more expensive) I own both as there are two separate farms I shoot where one is more suitable than the other. Seeker Excellent answe
  12. After the 4th or 5th time of watching you actually get used to it! I still think somethings going to jump out of the wood though (a bit like the old Hammer horror films). On a more serious note, I emailed Steve Henderson, following my purchase of his DVD, with some queries about my CZ452 and scope, zero settings etc and he couldn't have been more helpful. Top bloke. Cheers Sib
  13. Thanks for the heads up. I am sticking with the Hornady 17gn as a good all round and accurate choice. Sib
  14. CZ452 in 16" barrel. Your choice as to finish i.e. wood, style, silhouette. Shorter barrel good for use in vehicle. I'm not sure about the 455 yet. If you go on to the best rimfire forum there is http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/index.php and go in to the CZ forum, you will see that the jury is still out on that. I am getting a new .17HMR and will certainly go with the 452 16" with a rimfire magic or YoDave trigger conversion. Cheers Sib
  15. HW100 owners unite! I have a .22 and used to use AA. Now use Falcon Accuracy Plus = absolutely stunning. Cheers sib
  16. Nice write up. Love ratting, but as mentioned above, you can't beat watching the terriers go to work. Sib
  17. I was straight in, so hopefully only a temporary hitch for you Simon. Cheers Sib
  18. Much better and easier to use. Well done to the mods. Sib
  19. I'll be watching this thread with some interest, as I am jst about to buy a .17HMR. Hopefully someone will be along shortly, to give some advice. Cheers Sib
  20. Some European manufacturers use asterisks or stars stamped on to the chokes, but they equate to the above notches (thankfully) Sib
  21. Spioke to my FO on Friday regarding a variation. He told me to put the application in and then phone him after 7/8 days. He said that all applications/variations went on a pile and it could take several weeks to work through it. If I phoned him, he would put it to the top of the pile and deal with it. Still requires a home visit though, even for a variation (not sure why as I only renewed both certificates a couple of years ago) Cheers Sib
  22. That would be the 4 wheeled Triumph Spitfire then? Less easy to fall off. Used to have a chopped old Lambretta in the early 70s for messing around in the fields - great fun. Sib
