  1. there are two things i love to see out hunting that draws me to lurcher work, one being out in the day watching the dog getting a scent trailing it up body tensed tail up getting more and more excited as the scent gets stronger expecting a bolt at any second and out lamping watching the dog twisting and turning all over a good rabbit but the rabbit just cant shake him off and then a good strike
  2. alright lads just back from walking the lurcher pup, shes only four months but iv been thinking iv been walking her with the pack or just the whippet and she is very bold for a young pup but have started to walk her on her own to let her build her own confidence without the reasurance of the pack and you can see a bit of a difference in her behaviour. just like to see your opinions on this and do you think it makes a difference in a dog in the long run or will that confidence come later....
  3. saluki nothing worse to see a f*****g dog plodding behind something and stubborn as f**k!!!

  13. Nice set up bud would the dogs not chew up the timber?
  14. i have whippets and they would take hares and they seem to do it well but there are better dogs that would be a lot better suited to the job to bring up your bag
  15. i had the same problem with mine just make sure its warm bedding its well wormed and feed it loads of raw meat itl soon put on a bit of weight
  16. no my bitch is the same shed go hunting any weather and lives outside all year round
  17. the bitch that took that fox is mostly barnesmore breeding (mainly show lines) but of a strain the breeder kept for working in previous years. i agree with sonny brindle that most will if given the chance but theres more to a working whippet then that ie hardyness and ability to take nocks
  18. iv been running kc reg whippets for a number of years now nd have found the strain im running to be very good nd have got large bags, just wondering does any body else run them and what do they think as they get alot of stick as only being show dogs but i think its down to bad lines?
  19. i would great interest have a smashing kc reg bitch just no transport shed put a lot of lurchers to shame and only 14 months
  20. how long you going out for each night? and what X is your dog? 3-4 hours average but i do have longer nights. shes 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy which suits the ground im running but looking at her behaviour she dosnt loose her drive shes just not at the constant quick pace she was? nothing to worrie about heavily worked dogs dont look over impresive especially on the rabbits mate, like you said they lose there quick pace and tend to catch most of there quarry on the hedge. what you should find is as she has steadied up her running style will chance a bit, and what she lacks in her normal pace

  23. iv had the same problem just use vasiline and tape but it never really stops untill its fully healed just try to minimise it
