WHITE WORKING DOG - IS THIS A PROB???
cathunter replied to Grubsy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
the only problem that i can think of with a white dog is the possibility of being deaf, but as far as i know thats genetic -
i like this one, any info on how its made? wouldn't mind trying to make one similar

Nice looking dog that, i really like the look of him from what i can tell out of a pic. shame about the greyhounds killing him. ATB cathunter

thanks, it's good to get others opinions, as i'm not used to big dog's and there growth habits. i'll keep you's posted on his progress now i have this picture thing worked out between my camera and laptop.

another one

thanks , been trying to work it out, but wasn't 100% shaw, as he has a very log and thin tail compared to a mates pup that is a similar cross,

He is my first purpose bred running dog, he's been out with my old dog in a rabbit infested area. once with the torch, once with spot light and about 6 times during the day, i'm not asking anything of him at min, just letting him follow the old dog about to see what what the go is. am i getting him out to young? the ground he is on is sand and bracken, with a bit of pine forest aswell. he gets walked a few blocks every couple of days, but he gets let out of his pen(where he is housed with the other dog) every day for a romp around the yard.
-
how big do you think he will be? what height / weight? his sire and dam are 3/4 stag cross 1/4 grey (never got to measure them but my guess was about 27in dam and 29 in sire) he is 13 kg and 19 1/2 inch tall at 15 weeks old

i think as long as they work, but the only reason i prefer the whites (be it albino or black eyed white)is that as they are easier to spot in the thicker stuff.

Years ago, i was getting shown the ropes off an old timer mate of mine (now past for the last year and half) anyway i just picked up a 11 0r 12 week old doe (jill)(first ferret in many years)and i was just sitting down in my shed handling her when memories of the past popped in my head. My mate and i where out on a hill side picking up the odd rabbit or three. and at one burrow my old timer mate grabbed a perse net with a rabbit in it and dislocated its neck in the normal fashion. laid it down next to the rest. standing next to my mate not 4ft away from the small pile of rabbit, i looked

So if i saw your dog in my yard or out in the bush when i was shooting you'd be cool with me shooting it? i'd be with my dog when it's not in my yard. so i think there is a difference between that and a roaming cat that's out hunting. that and i'm not in the UK so i don't think my dog would ever be in your yard. i keep my birds next to the dog pen to keep the cats away from em. My only point is that is it someones animal, their pet, their companion, and whatever my views on that i dont think its right to just kill it out of hand. I am out with my dogs hunting, but the

if they are in there own yard or own house, thats fine. if they are in my yard or out in the bush hunting, not fine by me. = fair game

Please keep us posted with the progress of the bitch and pup's. How tall is the dog and bitch? What have they been run on?

As far as i know, roo's can't be hunted with dogs legally any where in oz

Thank you every one, there is a lot of food for thought. it's really got me thinking, from what i've gathered and looking at myself and my personality. I'm starting to lean towards a mid level pup, one that has confidence, but is not in my face and overly pushy, nor to shy. i wouldn't mind if it sat back and summed up the situation first, then came over to me ether.

Thanks for the reply's, i had a mate that's been hunting with the bigger hunting dog types for years and he put me onto a litter, he was going to come with me to help me pick out a pup, but due to unforeseen circumstances his plan's had to get changed at the last minute. from what i have been told that both bitch and dog are proven hunting dogs on rabbit and fox. from the directions i was given, i think i've been to the property before. about 5 years ago. if it is, i've seen some of his running dogs back then, nice looking animals, but i was there to buy a ferret so we only talked about his do

Hi all, i'm looking at picking a running dog pup, i have never owned a purpose bred running dog before and would just like to know what people look for. i.e. scissor bite, size of front knuckles ect ect Any tips would be helpful regards Cathunter

sorry, it's only from what i've been told from a dna tested dingo breeder, so i could very well be wrong. i'll ask one of my teachers instead, that works for dse, he'll know if the law i was told about, is coming into place or not and i'll get back on here and let you know what i find out. i wouldn't keep a dingo or a dingo cross ether, got told they are a very independent animal.
-
Dingo's are not the main problem, it is feral dogs and the cross breds. they look like pups to me. as of the start of next month i've been told that all dingo's will be protected by law.

My old dog. now 14 and now a retired to house dog(guard dog).(got the good life at my mum's. inside, out side cos of of age and he is slowin down). i run him every night after school and every day on the weekends from brekky till dusk and i'd do the same. i tied him to my head stem of my bike. he used to pull me and the bike up hills at a running pace. start em of slow an just get em doing more till you are happy with fitness. they will be on top of the game IMO. but don't push to hard to fast as a pup. give em the time and they will try there guts out for you if you know your dog and know whe
