really tasty fish. we get them a lot in the tidal stretch of our river. lob some bread in up stream and fish a white sz 16 egg on a fly rod.

as mik says line is important. try copolymer for dries. also presentation plays a huge part with dry flies. tapered leaders are great for helping you. if you are going to try nymping then keep it plain. weighted pheasant tails or hares ears will catch brownies all day long. have a look at jonathan barnes on youtube. he does some really good tutorials for rivers

the lakes certainly some place. i was on it last sunday and back on it this saturday for a clubbys heat. heard its starting to colour up now though. a couple more weeks of heat and it'll be like pea soup. carrons hard to beat as well

You wont go far with some spiders or some dries. Most of my fish on the river are got on nymphs. Red tags, pheasant tails that type of thing

i managed a day at skate a fortnight ago. had a female at 177lb and a male at125lb. best days fishing ive had in a long while. its not a shark but still 300lb in 2 fish is a good day. ive had a good few days on the tope with the same boys
