Interesting points of view there Stealthy. I'll give you my take on that if I may. As long as we stay within the law, everything is in the green zone as far as I am concerned because we are never going to get the antis to understand let alone support our way of life and what it stands for. I for one will not change my ways of doing things because it would be more appealing to some anti. Especially not if I have to cut back on anything that I enjoy, because it does not matter what we do, they are going to try to rub our noses in everything that is just a touch out of line for them and their poi

Hi Don, Yes they are prone to leaks but this Lad seems to have a tidy original with buddy & pump, I know they are changeing hands with collectors upwards of £500, I sent one to a BSA collector in Holland last summer for £465, this was the rifle only, lets see how well he does with her, there's not that many about & doubt many produced, I remeber they had a retail price of £230 in the 90's, I found & old BSA invoice & was buying each unit for £160 inc vat. Contact Gunpower, they are very helpfull & will give the build date from your frame serial No. Here is their web site. http://www.gunpower.org.uk/ Atb, foxon.

Would defo blow your cover Ryan, but what a nice item, have not seen one for years, last one I looked at belonged to two Didacoys who wanted their one putting over the limit, it had a 4" nail holding the stock on as I remember & a piece of Dexion shelving used as a pump arm, I declined the job offer. Glynn. -
Hi Ryan, no secret just a lot of work in the prep, everything must be oil free & back to clean bright metal, the acid used is commercial & not safe for DIY use, takes many years to master, I still have many attempts at getting it right after 20 years on some jobs as there are many finishes, like deep blu, matt blu military type finishes on service revolvers & rifles, the list is endless, but recommend Phillips liquid blu for that adapter you are doing if it's in steel. Fill the bottle to 200 as this is a good pressure to run the Spitfire at, as they will ballance out the forces of one into the other, regulator on the Spitfire is poor, so hit & miss on first lot of shots but will peak at 120/30 bar. foxon. -

Hi Dan, do not put paint on whatever you do, just leave as is, if the Spitfire is original keep it that way, let a collector or buyer have the work done, but enjoy her while you can, a good place to advertise is Gunmart, an overseas buyer will notice for sure or a UK buyer. ATB, foxon. -

Dan I have to be honest with you if in good condition with the original buddy bottle & pump upwards of £500, most of these live in the USA, was an agent for this & the Firebird back in the 90s they did not take on so only few survive, when I did not get a reply I thought I heard the penny drop, Spitfire has the large silencer. Good luck with her. foxon. i take my hat of to ya Many thanks Davyt63 looks like the lad has a little GEM there, the Yanks will snap his arm for that one. foxon. -

It will be the BSA Spitfire if it has that quirky cockingdevice, but does that one have the longer barrel either way if it is the Firebird or the Spitfire I would be interested in buying. foxon. -

Sounds like the BSA Firebird break barrel pcp carbine came in HF & LF with small buddy bottle fill & a needle rod indicator for fill pressure, a 90s icon getting rare. foxon. -
I'm thinking you must be an engineer of sorts Scuba, I don't think we have any more shipyards left in Britain? ATB, Glynn.

There are many good products on the market available to counter Customers, the best one that can be bought over the counter is the Birchwood Casey blu & rust remover, but to remove the rust from any metal is by hand useing different grades of grit as not to damage address, if there is any rust or pitting & bluing hot or cold is placed over the top it will show through as a ginger colour & carry on rusting, home use cold blu is pretty poor, but if you have a small area to cover it is ok, but it must be preped realy well with bare oil free metal showing. foxon. so 2 get the m

Scuba I know the one, model makers love them, I have an old Myford ex MOD lathe & a Colcheter mill, both ancient but I know them like the back of my hand, saves a lot of time too rather than waiting on a part, I see on ebay they have the sealey copy of the Emco on there, ideal for those little jobs. foxon.

You are very correct there Hughesey, the problem is setting it all up for a one off, have done a batch of 10 that had been proven before I made that many, but was still a good two days work, you could not make a living from this alone, you would need a machine pre set for each prosess plus a finishing area for polishing & bluing, even if you were only makeing sleve type silencers without threading, there are still a lot of proceses during production. foxon.
-
Could not agree more with you Scuba, how did he chop his rifle & why? ATB, Glynn.
-
Good Quality silencers off the shelf are realitively cheap to buy, so long as they work well with your rifle, if I build a rifle or tune for a Customer I will build a silencer around the perfomance of that I have tuned, it is quite labour intensive useing stock items, as you have a lot of machining prosesses like threading boring & bluing, unless you are doing this on a large scale it is not cost effective when you can bulk buy HWs or BSAs for as little as £12 per unit. foxon.
-
This is a very grey area, if you look at the action of an air rifle it is a lot longer than most pistols, so if you lop of the stock & barrel, you still have a sizeable lump that is not easy to conceal, like a lot of Squirrel controlers do they bob them, so they can dispatch humanely in the trap, in the eyes of the Law it all comes down to purpose, if a lad on a houseing estate were running around with such an item I am sure the Police would use every power they had to bring a charge of illegal firearm, if a pest controller were to use one in his day to day work I doubt they would give a s
