Youre right there, but id rather have a pup out 2 proven winter animals than a jacker, it's about increasing your chances, nothing is guaranteed but if you study the breeding and look at what dogs are producing the most good animals youve got a good place to start
-
What's the dog you owned that you're talking about? If you have so much experience in dogs why did you not go and get a pup off one of the top producers at the time? Or 2 top working parents? The mother to these pups wasnt a top brood bitch she was a nervous jacker, and the sire was very young at the time as well, also worth mentioning the pups grandparents on the dams side were useless as well and that's came from people who know what a good dog looks like, and the old lucky stuff is a terrible producing line it threw very few good dogs and loads of jackers and these pups mother is no differe

I'll tell you the full story, youre right about the breeder by the way, pups were advertised as lucky bred pups, all the usual stuff about breeding how they're the best bred litter for ages etc, so me being naive I drove from Scotland to Birmingham and paid £300 to get one, I didn't look at the mother at the time but I should have, then about a month later the breeder says to me do you want 2 year old inca (the mother) for free? So me being naive still jumped at the chance cause i thought I was getting a top coursing bred bitch for free lol, so i drove back down to birmingham and got her, then
-
To be honest mate no offence to you but if you knew anything about coursing dogs you wouldn't have a pup out this litter, the mother had just turned 2 years old and had never ran a hare in her life, i didnt have a clue at the time that's why I have one, I know better now though so that's why I'm making my decision, good luck to you but I'll do my thing you do yours
-
Just to give everyone the full picture here cause I think most of you are misunderstanding, I've had the pup from 6 weeks old and I've put 100% effort in to him from day 1, genuinely he's one of my favourite dogs I've ever had, the reason I bought him was because he was marketed as lucky the dark destroyer lines so I assumed great dog = great pups, obviously I was a bit more naive then about coursing breeding breeding etc but I bought him anyway and that was that, he killed his 1st single handed on September 19th at a day over 12 months and over the next to months of say he killed 50% of the h

He's my only running dog at the moment, he will be here till the end of the winter and if he hasn't impressed me by then he'll be gone, then he will have had a full season so there won't be any excuses
-
Basically your message is, there's no guarantee of success so why try ? what an attitude that is

The dogs on the couch recovering because it's injured, an injury it picked up running good hares on good land, how is that not striving for the best? He was out there being tested that's why he' injured
-
Like I've already said there's a high chance the next one will be better because it's bred off tested and proven stock on both sides, and what I am chasing is a dog that can go out there in winter, kill good hares regularly and make me feel proud to own it, a dog that can kill the majority of hares it runs and do it in style, and dogs like this do exist believe it or not so I'd rather chase one like that than accept disappointment, it costs as much to feed a good one as a bad one

This is the first time I've been on the hunting life in about a year and it's only because of this specific topic, and I remember why I stopped coming on in the first place, too many people giving advice from behind a computer screen when they probably do very little hunting if any themselves, and that's a fact because I know of specific people on here that fit that category, I'll happily take advice from people that are out week in week out like myself but people that kill a couple of rabbits a season and come on here giving lads advice need to take a right good look at themselves ? my pup ki

Did I say I ran hares in summer? I don't do either, I run when it's right to run I get little enjoyment out of running stubble hares September onwards i prefer december/january/february, not like youre twisting my words or anything ?
-
Do you not have dogs out of razor and romeo? And a stubble hare puts up a 10 times better run than one in a foot of snow
-
I'l put a post up when I get it, not putting any names up on here about dogs or breeder, deposits paid though
-
if you think you've got a dog that could pick these hares up in a minute where i go pm me your number and we'll have a day out next month I'd love to see it
-
Look at some dvds, you see the slip on nearly every clip
-
Think what you get on here is alot of men that have settled for average so they try and slag off anyone that expects better
-
Me personally I'd rather go buy a pup out of 2 dogs I can see hours of footage of, or do you suggest getting a pup off these guys that kill numbers every week but don' take any pics or videos because 'it's too hot' ? the same guys that always say they'l get a day out with you but they're always too busy or they'e dogs injured ? think I know which litter id rather go for
-
There's alot of jealousy in dogs, I'd rather say well done to the lads who own these special dogs and hope that I get one myself one day, instead of your attitude putting them down and saying they probably miss loads as well, everyone's different but I think with dogs you can only make them as good as they can be, if they lack that natural ability a good owner can only take them so far, they need to have it in them to begin with, and if I don' think a dogs got it then I won't waste years kidding myself, but like i said im out plenty over the next few weeks and this dog will get plenty of chanc
-
100% I agree with you and the next pup I'm waiting on has never been marketed as a sure thing, but there's hours of footage of both parents doing the job I want a dog to do, and the sire is the best producing dog around at the moment in my opinion so as far as I can see that' the best place to be going for a pup, this dogs not just going to get discarded because it misses a few hares, but I'm being realistic here, the type of dog im looking for doesn't come around often and they can't all make the grade that's just life, I'm not going to fill myself dull of false hope and if I don't feel like
-
You're missing the point, I don't expect him to go out and kill everything he runs, but I need to see something that shows me he's worth keeping, if he goes out runs 3 kills 1 but shows potential like putting them under pressure that's good signs, but if he goes out runs 3 kills none and gets blown away and dragged up and down then he's not going to all of a sudden just become a killing machine over the summer, easy for you to make judgements over the internet but I've had the dog from 6 weeks I know what he' capable of and if he's got potential then I'll see that for myself, it's not like I'm
-
Not at all, I had big hopes for this dog but seeing it perform like that knocks that off a bit, I'd love if he went out on Sunday and killed a few but at the moment I'm 50/50, he's fit and ready I've done my bit so it's down to him now
-
Point is the dog can be as sharp as it wants but if it can't finish it off and make the kill then its still 0/3 at the end of the day no matter how it ran them
-
Dog had a split nail and slight infection so I gave him metacam and a course of amoxicillin and it's since cleared up, what I meant was I'm not sure if that was the cause of the poor performance or whether the dog was just struggling on better hares, also I took him a 2 hour drive to the bone man who suggested 10 days off so he's had that and more, is that good enough for you? ? and what i meant by other dogs are doing it, is I would much rather own a dog that could kill good hares at 15/16 months than a dog that can't, the dog worlds full of people that accept average and make excuses for the
-
I never doubted this pup at all, I put 100% in to it from day one and I was really happy with it until the last time I had it out, that might be due to injury or it could be due to the fact the hares are getting better and the dogs not good enough, we'll find out over the next few weeks, but I can't understand people that lie to themselves and say 'aww it'l be better next season' and all the usual shit excuses, as far as I'm concerned you see dogs this age doing the business so if these can't they're not good enough no excuses, and as for not taking pictures mate I could'e guessed that would b
