  1. Hi George Thankyou for answering my post im very greatful for your views, think i will buy a couple of boxes to test. Many thanks Nick
  2. HI all Has any one tried .22 CCI segment tip rimfire ammo ? If so do they reduce richochet ?
  3. I have only just exchanged my ASE Utra for a wildcat Moderator. I was very pleased with the noise reduction on the ASE Utra and the more it was used the quieter it seemed to be. The only negative being that it is quite heavy. So decided to get the wildcat as it an over the barrel moderator thus not being as long as the ASE when fitted to the barrel. But as i have nt got the wild cat then i unfortunately can not give you my verdict. There are a few tests done with the wildcat on Youtube so you may want to check it out. Good luck
  4. I buy my 17hmr ammo (Hornady) from country way gun shop in Kent. That is no exageration as i bought 500 rounds today and the total came to £87.50 that has nothing to do with the quantity i bought. The Gun shop is fantastic they have a very high turn over on everything they own as they do not put a big profit margin on what they sell, this includes cartridges and guns ! 5. Im sure i am going over points that have already been mentioned. I have a 17hmr that i am very happy with for rabbit shooting . Cons Ammo more expensive £8.75 per 50 rounds Noisier than a .22 but saying that with the right moderator very successful i have shot 3 rabbits before that were sitting in very close together and knocked them off one by one. A lot more prone to wind than the heavier .22 Definately more carcass damage, BUT surely what ever you are hunting you should always go for head shots to ensure a clean kill if not then you dont pull the trigger, hence no c
  6. I hope you read this in time ! I have been toying with the idea of customising my quad so i have been researching this area alot and talking to various gun smiths who speacialize in custom rifles. I mentioned the option of shortening my barrel. I have always had the opinion that a carbine barrel is not as accurate as a longer barrel, but this is untrue. Anyway from talking to a gunsmith who used to work at hornady tells me that the 17hmr round burns out after 18inches of the barrel. So i guess i am trying to say by all means get a carbine barreled rifle but make sure the barre
  7. I totally agree, a gunsmith is not needed to change the barrel, mine have never come loose so if yours is then you are doing something wrong .
  8. Lots around in my area in Kent, went out 4 weeks ago lamping for the first time this year. The farmer is over run by them i shot 72 then since that night i have shot 41 and 35. So i presume i have made a dent in their poopulation and the fact that they are more aware of the lamp. They will make a n appearence for you soon .
  9. Hi I ve been looking for a suitable moderator for 17hmr and its now a toss up between the ASE Utra Or the Wild Cat. The Ase being a bit heavier and the wild cat being an over the barrel design so this making the barrel length shorter than if i had the ase? SOOOO what do you think ?
  10. Hi Mate I dont think Anschutz do a synthetic , so i guess that helps narrow down your search.
  11. Thanks for that mate, do Anscutz do a synthetic version though???
  12. I own a 17HMR Sako quad with a synthetic stock and heavy barrel. It has out standing build quality and accuracy. There is a 5 shot and a 9 shot magazine to chose from but no carbine version. CZ does have a model that answers all your needs but in my opinion not as good as the sako from a build quality point of view, im sure others may disagree with that. The best advice i can give you is to pick up and try as many guns as possible as individual preferences differ. You may also want to check out Anshutz which would be my second choice, good luck !
  13. Happy Easter all ! I own a Rim fire and currently have a saks moderator fitted to it. Im looking to change the moderator to possible a wildcat over the barrel type. Therefore is this an easy thing to achieve from a fire arms license point of view ? ive been told that i would need a variation ? Hope you can help . Niffkin
  14. Hey I own a 17hmr Quad, Its performance and accuracy and build quality are second to none. Yes it is more expensive than a CZ but this doesnt mean it will be more or less acurate. Dont be put off by the interchangeable barrels. Once they are in they will not become lose or affect acuracy in any way . Hope this helps.
  15. Thanks Guys Your advice is much appreciated , thankyou !
  16. Hello All I am toying with the idea of customising my 17hmr sako quad by having a synthetic stock fitted and synthetically bedded and a new trigger mechanism, Apparently all of this will improve the acuracy and feel of the rifle. So my question to you is : is this worth having done or would you have something different done like having a different barrel fitted ?
  17. Hello Not too bad i just need to keep practising on the crossers, the images you sent me definately helped so thankyou once again . Best wishes Nick
  18. its a game gun 28inch barrel if the gun fits you then you shouldnt see any rib with it beign a game gun. sounds like the stock is too high for you. what you need to do is either get the stock altered to fit you or sell that gun and buy one that fits you from the start. have a word with ur coach if you buy a new gun and see if he will go with u and make sure that it fits you. SEAN you are right but if the gun dont fit you then it wont shoot where you are looking Thanks mate much appreciated
  19. Hello Just wanted to say a very big thankyou to you for going to the effort of sending me photos it has helped a lot . Best wishes Nifkin
  20. hello mate my advice for you is that you shouldnt see hardly any rib at all. and if you are stuggling on crossing birds a trick i use is to stand behind people if possable and see look down there gun when they are shooting just to get the rough idea on where they are mounting and picking the clay up before they pull the trigger. most clays that are crossing are mist from behind when you mount the gun keep it swinging while pulling the trigger you should have your gun just beneath the bottom of the clay as sporting guns shoot high and try and shoot them in mid flight as if you let them get away

  22. Hello All Ive been shot gun shooting for 3 years and mainly done rough shooting . Only this year have i bought a over and under and taken the sport more seriously and had a lesson with an instructor. The question i have is how much of the rib do you see when aiming ? Ive been told that you shouldnt see any of the rib when mounting the gun you should only see the bead. My instructor placed a £1 coin on the top of the rib a few inches down from my eye and told me i should see the rib infront of the coin and behind it to the bead. Im hitting clays comming towards me and over hea
