  1. I'd like to hear people's opinions on the subject of female instructors for clay shooting. I shoot regularly and like to think that I'm a half decent shot but I'm always struck by the lack of other female shooters. Plenty of ladies turn up to score for their other halves but not many seem inclined to have a go themselves. Not sure whether it's fear of the gun, or the noice or what it is that's putting them off. I've contacted BASC to see if they have any courses that might be available so I can train to be an instructor - purely with the intention of encouraging other ladies to try the
  2. Downham Market YFC charity clay shoot in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance by kind permission of Sir Jeremy Bagge at Stradsett, near Downham Market in Norfolk. Sunday 27th March 11am - 3pm, shoot supplied by Alan Evans of Fair Clay Targets (www.fairclaytargets.co.uk). Fibre wad only. 40 bird sporting & pool shoot. Refreshments available. 3. Thanks for the advice guys. Venue will probably move next year but won't be outside of our hunt country so that may not help attendance much unfortunately. Can't control what people call themselves when they're out and about showing either.........all I can say is that the best dog won on the day.
  4. Think someone has been given some incorrect information here, Champion in terrier ring was Chalky shown by Miss. R Melton, owned by Mr. A. Gyton - both of whom are gamekeepers. They are regular attendees at our show - and many others in this area. They have good dogs and deserved to win, I'm sure Chris Hickling would agree.
  5. Thanks to all that supported the WNFSC show on Sunday. Rain held off but a bit breezy!! Glad to receive comments (good or bad) but please try to be polite, we can only put stuff right if we know where we went wrong and we're always happy to take advice from people so we can improve for next year. Would have liked to have seen a few more in the terrier ring and not really sure what we can do to get more people to enter - suggestions?? Will not accept any criticism of any of the judges, they all did a cracking job. Hope the racing was Ok for those that requested we put it on,
  6. Hi, have sent you a PM with ring schedule, let me know if you;ve got any questions. Thanks Nicola - WNFSC.

  7. There is a change to the originally scheduled judge for the terrier ring at the West Norfolk Foxhounds Supporters Club show this Sunday August 15th at Heath Farm, North Elmham, Norfolk, NR20 5EN. Due to unforeseen circumstances, unfortunately Dean Weaver is unable to officiate and therefore the terrier ring will now be judged by Mr. Chris Hickling. Thanks to all on this forum who responded to my plea for assistance in finding a replacement - anyone other show organisers out there will understand what a nightmare it is to find judges at short notice and we are extremely grateful to Chr
  8. Hi, Can you get him to call/text me as soon as possible on 07789 780022 please, I need to discuss details with him before I confirm to the owrld that he's the new judge. Hope you're coming again this year, looking forward to seeing how Striker's grown up. Thanks, Nicola.
  9. Thanks - does anyone have a contact number for C Hickling and what does the 'C' stand for?? It's a nightmare trying to get a good judge at a week's notice.......
  10. Unfortunately we've fallen foul of naming the judges as the terrier judge has had to cancel at very short notice - so unfortunately there will be a change to the named judge for the terrier ring. Will update via this forum as soon as we have a replacement confirmed.

  17. Totally sympathise on this. I am organising the WNFSC terrier, lurcher and family dog show again this year and getting judges is difficult enough and the job they have to do on the day is even harder. All judges will have a particular type of dog they naturally prefer - whether it be terriers or lurchers. It's only when they get their hands on them in the ring that they can look for the conformation faults like under/over shot jaws, flat/broken toes, turned out hocks and elbows, etc. - but none of these will ever give you an inkling as to how good or bad the dog performs in the field or u
  18. Date for the diary!! West Norfolk Hunt Supporters Club Terrier, Lurcher and Family Dog Show on August 15th at Heath Farm, North Elmham (same venue as last year). Qualifying round for N.L.& R.C. Championship at Chatsworth (Lurchers), Countryman's Weekly Champion of Champions at the Midland Game Fair (Lurchers & Terriers), East Anglian Champion of Champions (Lurchers & Terriers) and Young Handler Champion of Champions at Rougham in Suffolk. By popular demand (and because we listened to what people said last year), there will be terrier AND lurcher racing after the show an

  20. Fair Clay Targets Christmas Clay Shoot - Sunday December 20th at Watery Lane, near Beeston/Dereham. 100 bird sporting layout competition over 12 stands - £20 round. Run by Alan Evans and in my opinion, the best value for money clay shoot around. Open, ladies, junior and veterans classes and even a 'win a turkey' stand. Website www.fairclaytargets.co.uk. Alan holds shoots usually twice a month (Sundays) from 11 - 1.30pm and cost of round also includes food back at a local pub afterwards - all for £20!!! 21. Big thankyou to all that turned up today - both spectators and entrants, fantastic to see & meet everyone - especially those that use this website and have posted comments. The Weather God was good to us (too hot in fact!!) but some cracking quality dogs turned up and all the judges did an excellent job, especially the lurcher judge Darren Gallagher who actually came out of 'retirement' for us and John Clark in the terrier ring - despite Hound Dog 1 (or should I say Blobby....) and his snide comments. Any criticism from anyone towards either of these 2 guys is totally out of order - they j
  22. Terrier, Lurcher and Family Dog Show - gates open 11am, judging at 12.30pm - ample parking. £2/dog/class - pay in ring. Terrier racing after showing. All welcome!!
  23. Rest assured hound dog1 - I know exactly who and how good all my judges are and John Clark knows what he's doing, as do my other 2 judges, that's why they were asked. If you don't agree then fair enough but that's up to you. There'll be plenty of people there on Sunday that can make up their own minds - but as it says on the schedule, the judge's decision is final. I'm sure there's a reason for you dissing John Clark but using this forum isn't the place to do it - so please pack it in. Little Lurcher - I've seen the pup you bred, cracking little dog!! Of course you can leave some schedule
  24. Nice to hear from someone who's coming, Little Lurcher - we want more like you, the more the merrier!! All we need is some nice weather...... fingers crossed!! See you Sunday - I'll be the one running around like a headless chicken trying to make sure everything is OK - come and introduce yourself (if you get time between the kids and dogs!!)
  25. Thankyou for your 'constructive' comment Hound Dog1 - obviously you are entitled to your opinion, but so am I. Why is the length of time someone has owned a terrier relevant?? It doesn't mean they don't know a good terrier from a bad one. Being a big shooting man isn't a fault either - or being a spaniel boy as you so nicely put it. I assume that from your comments, you won't be coming to the show???
