  1. Thanks for all the replies folks, been getting the girls to feed the dog and then take the bowl away whilst I carefully watch and its been fine, I took her bone off her no problems The dog was about 15 weeks old when i picked her up so hadn't had the chance to spend those first few weeks with kids and people etc She will be outside soon I was just waiting for her jabs and wanted a few weeks to get to know the dog and bond with it before she goes out with my spaniel Thanks again
  2. Dog is a beddy whippet x greyhound only had her a fortnight, she is just coming out of her shell, thought I was getting somewhere, quiet at night now, sits and recall is coming on, retrieving a bit at a time and is walking on the lead ok now Daughter is 7, luckily she has lighting reactions, dog grabbed a leg of lamb that was defrosting on the side Don't know what to do, if I give her a bollocking/hiding at this stage its going to put pay to the bond im trying to make
  3. Awkward one really, whilst I was in the bath my daughter said dad the dogs got the leg of lamb! But as she went to get it off her the dog took at her, now I don't know whether to let this go or what, the pups only 16 weeks old but about 20 tts already so will be even more dodgy when fully grown Is this just puppy behaviour or shall I take it for a walk with the 12 bore and a spade? Dog cost me 400 with jabs and fuel to pick her up, What would you do?
  4. I imagine he means its more likely to cause an accident because its more likely to bounce around
  5. Do I need referees on my variation form? I'm putting in for a 22 hornet to put my nightvision scope on but its been ages since I sent one off, also question 20 ammunition I wish to possess do I just put what I want for the hornet or what I already need for my 22 and 223? Thanks
  6. The ones you missed with the hmr on those windy nights you mean lol
  7. How do you go about this? And will they hunt up after you have taught it to work in the dark?
  8. Thanks for the replies folks
  9. Well done dan, there was two or three barking last night driving the dogs mad managed to drop a dog fox before it got to foggy, nice when you get results from short sessions
  10. I will let her be a pup and do it in her own time, it doesn't bother me how long it takes, I was only really asking to see if other people had pups with next to no prey drive which turned into good adult dogs
  11. Also has anyone had a lurcher that is slow to take interest in moving things? I have all the patience in the world so I am not worried but whilst on walks she doesn't seem bothered by squirrels or ducks or anything really, Is this normal?
  12. Well might sound daft but thats what it says in the books I have ( complete lurcher brian plummer and walshes lurchers and long dogs) says try and get the pup exited by holding it back and then bounce the ball in front of the dog and when pup is trying to get out of your arms let it chase the ball.
  13. Cheers I have tried bending down she does fetch but I can't seem to get her exited, I'll try and wind her up and then roll the ball but she casually walks up to it then very softly picks it up and brings it back
  14. Cheers joe she is 16 weeks old a beddy whippet x greyhound and about week I've had her I know ill probably get a bit of stick because I've only had her a week but all the pups I have had retrieved from pretty much day one, I had my pat pup doing it at 5 weeks but I know every dog is different She is so layed back she is horizontal! Got her sitting and coming to her name so she can't be totally daft lol
  15. Is it ok to let my lurcher pup have a play in the garden after her food or can this be dodgy? Ie cause a twisted gut? Its just I am trying to house train her and she usually has a crap ten minutes after her grub, also I am trying to get her to retrieve but she isn't that interested so would letting her watch my spaniel retrieve help the penny drop? I haven't had her long so hopefully she just needs to settle in a bit, I have tried a rolled up sock, kids teddy and a ball but like I said I can't really get her exited Any ideas or comments welcome
  16. Good read mate the 223 shoots a bit flatter with the 40 grainers which is what I use, but like you said once you find the best ammo your rifle likes it doesn't matter
  17. Never clean my 22 either never had to and accuracy is brilliant, happy new year folks
  18. Hi all I have collected a beddy whippet x greyhound x beddy whippet greyhound pup today shr is 4 month old and about 20 tts already will make about 25ish I think. What are the key things with a new pup like how far can I walk her without doing damage?
  19. Anybody got a picture of this dog 2009 supreme champion thanks
  20. And are they prone to yapping because of the beddy whippet in the breeding? I don't want to piss anyone off but I saw a thread on here about yappers and I think beddy whippet was mentioned
  21. True very true but how do you know that's the problem
  22. Anyone had experience of this breeding? If so what they like stamina wise? All the best
