  1. Has anyone used this cross and if so how do they go compared to either pure breed, cheers.
  2. Got it about a month ago, top read, very good value for money (12 quid) great history on the breeds used for producing lurchers and some top photos, well worth a spot in any lurcherman's library I'd say.
  3. Hello, I need some advice from anyone who runs a bobbery pack for hunting, I'm running lurchers and a terrier to hunt possums through thick gorse and blackberries and was wondering if anyone on here runs working beagles and if so how do they go through very thick cover. I'm after a dog that will bark once the quarry has been found either holed up or treed, but not a dog that will trailbark on a scent which I'm picking a beagle will???? My russell lets out a couple of barks once hes found one, but Its hard to pinpoint him without a constant bark to home in on.
  4. Good looking dog that, is that his kennel behind him, looks like DR who's tardis
  5. Cheers for the advice, I was'nt sure what to use as its around the dogs eye, all good.
  6. Shit thats a nice russell bitch ya got there pal, abit like my dog digger. I've just got a wee first cross whippet collie pup to partner up with him for the on-coming possum hunting season, all the best.
  7. My dogs get regularly bitten and today one of them got a wee towelling around the top eye lid, looks like its been bitten right threw but no damage to the eye itself thank god. The wound has crusted up nicely with a bit of swelling, but I was just wondering if any of you lads could recommend something I could put on it to help it heal. I've washed it out with warm water, but thats about it.
  8. Cheers for the help, much appreciated. Digger will be looking smart again, soon
  9. Has anyone got any good tips about the best way to do this, my russell is looking pretty shaggy and could do with a good strip, I've never done it before so any advice would be good. I'm just looking to tidying him up abit, nothing fancy, cheers.
  10. The pup looks like she"ll turn out a racy one, as you can see from the photos. She"ll be worked primarily on possums, with the occasional rabbit and hare in pine forests. I'm looking forward to introducing her to the rest of the pack.
  11. Evening lads, I've just got me-self a wee 8week old first cross border collie/ whippet pup. She has been bred out of a whippet to a new zealand bred eye dog. I've never had a collie bred lurcher before, always had me bedlington bred lurchers and just would like to hear from anyone else who has owned and worked these little nippers. Cheers
  12. Nice looking bitch, I use my wee russell on possums, love it. Theres now't more fun than a mad Russell tackling a good buck possum.
  13. Nice one, body feels weary after a hard hunt/dig, but satisfying ay. Now't a good stiff drink won't fix.
  14. My old dog has worked hard for me over the years, he's earned his pension and will spend the rest of his days taking it easy and keeping pups in their place. Selling old dogs is also one of my pet hates, alot of pig hunters sell on older dogs to help younger pups to get going and teach 'em the ropes. My dogs are my mates.
  15. Heres one for ya, Me and my sister driving to Leek farmers market when my ferret escapes out of its box, I told sis to grab it as I was driving. The bloody ferret bites through her thumb nail and it ain't letting go, I'm trying to drive with no where to pull over, screaming sister in the passenger seat, blood splattered windscreen and a flying ferret smacking me in the chops - funny as fuk!
  16. I've bought the cold steel small spade, damn sharp piece of hardware. Given to the special forces - handy for digging a dog out on those unexpected occasions and nice handy size for ya belt/backpack.
  17. Can anyone recommend a sensible forum thats dedicated to working jack and parson russell terriers, besides this top site, cheers.
  18. Yeah, right decent of you, just gotta pick the right home now, all the best.
  19. My question is WHY would you want one and what do you want one for? Do you want a bushing dog?, then why don't you just get a pure cocker or a pure russell. I car'nt see what you would gain from this union, but everyone to their own I suppose.
  20. Good wee pack you got going their lee, looks like your having alot of fun working them, keep it up.
  21. Good luck with the search, let us know how you get on, WBF definetly the place to try.
  22. Soft mate, real soft - Whippets are thin skinned buggers that feel the cold. Now't ya can do about it really, they got to want to go in first. Try throwing something they like to chase into the water, just not too far as YOU may have to retrieve it. Good luck.
  23. I've put stuff up about this parson before, anyway, he's a good dog, tries his hardest and is a bloody honest worker. The only gripe I got is he's not the best around other peoples dogs, he's alright around his own kennel mates, but he'll argue with a saint, if you know what I mean.
  24. Here's a pic of my russell dog, just adding my 10 pence worth.
  25. Most russells I've known, which is not alot, were bayers, mixing it once you broke threw, all I meant was by the looks of Moss's dog its done some hard yards, a damn good dog no doubt. I don't want to throw a hornets nest into this topic, but has anyone got any photo's of russells bred by Arthur Nixon, I'd much like to see some, as I've heard they were a good working line. Cheers
