  1. I set a mouse trap, inside a mink cage, and caught a rat, alive!

  2. 20th October I ditched the 28amp battery and Lightforce tonight, instead using my EagleTac T100C2 Mark II LED torch as my spotter. The lack of a heavy backpack weighing me down was quite a relief, this I can get used to. I will guesstimate that I can spot foxes eyes to 400-500 yards with the EagleTac, sheep eyes I could see past two hundred yards - but I didn't see sheep farther away than that tonight. The LED light is more clinical and cold than the warmer glow from the Lightforce incandescent bulb, it will take a little getting used to. Now I am really looking forward to my Fandyfire stl
  3. 19th October I got a new toy in the hope of ridding myself of the weight of the 28amp battery I'm currently using to light up the countryside with my LF170 Striker. The Optimus LD-50 Laser Designator is it's name. Tonight was the first night I had an opportunity to use it as the supplied mount didn't fit my scope so I had to order ring/rail mounts of Ebay. The point of tonight's exercise was to test the Optimus' capabilities. With that in mind I drove to a farm which is heavily populated with rabbits, and has several open spaces measuring in the hundreds of yards. Picking up a bunc
  4. 9th October As promised I headed for the bog to search the swamp for the first fox I shot last night. Truth be told I was neither confident nor looking forward to the task. I simply don't get on with these places. As best as I could, from the rock I took the shot, I looked over the ground (I use the term loosely) and formulated my search plan. Heading out to a little gorse and moss covered bump I looked out over the swamp and saw a lot of water, moss, and humps of dead grass, basically many things that didn't come close to resembling a fox. Though I am 100% sure I hit the fox well, the
  5. 8th October The Geological Survey of Ireland site has a Public Viewer which is a great little asset to me. Unfortunately Google Earth only offers poorly defined shapes and colours to represent the geography of most of my area. While I have walked most of the areas I hunt through my day job, GSI gives me a different perspective. It’s useful in scouting out new stands, showing the shapes of lakes, the small but deep rivers which join them, and any rocky outcrop that passes for a hillock which could be used as a vantage point. The bog is vast and flat, having a bird’s eye view helps me figure
  6. Striker with dimmer, if those two are your only options. Blitz is just too big.
  7. I used to be a devotee of the Muckboot Esk (I think, the one with the good tread) wellingtons. They were warm, they were heavy. But, they have two fatal flaws for the land I walk and hunt here. They split at the seams, expecially back around the heel, I think one split where the toes flex as well. They are rip very easily. one pair got a glancing blow from the deck of the sheep trailer as I was putting it in, went through the boot like a hot knife through butter. I think I had two or three pairs of them so not just giving out about one bad pair. Now I'm on Dunlop Puroforts, the non safety
  8. Great place for a few nights,, if ur into joy ridng and knacker drinking,,, Careful now, you'll be done for racism for insulting their cultural pursuits!
  9. Millet, What camera did you use to take those pics? Not sure mine would be up to the job but I've been thinking of doing something similar (still no sign of the effing Crelant, but my FandyFire did arrive today). And did you range that tree or pace it?
  10. Check to see if these have anything to suit you: http://www.pse-composites.com/ I've fondled one of their stocks and they're lovely
  11. Once you're in the door with one farmer you should find getting permission a lot easier. I can't think of any type of farming that would encourage wild rabbits onto their place and be happy about them. They'll eat all the grass as easy as all the crops.
  12. I covered the pan with tin foil (had no lid for it) while it was simmering as well. I'd say it's the tastiest thing I've cooked to be honest!
  13. If you want pure indulgent Winter stick to yer insides comfort food, this is it: http://www.bordbia.ie/aboutfood/recipes/beef/pages/braisedbeefinstout.aspx I didn't use shoulder beef, butcher hadn't any, instead got some strips which I think were cut from round seak, not 100% sure but it was tender as fcuk. NOM NOM NOMMINY NOM!
  14. I've heard they've three lanes on the footpaths there, one for walking, one for cycling, and one for buggies
  15. I have one ordered, but they're not the same thing The NM800 is focusable, has different coloured LED's, and an IR LED. AFAIK, the Crelant doesn't have any of that, but is much cheaper I do agree. (Haven't forgotten about those PM's, got distracted!).
  16. Have you watched it?....... Are you still surprised?.............. lol.
  17. I don't have one, but if I had the extra cash I'd be interested in buying one. Very good glass, fixed magnification so no chance of pissing around when what's needed is to shoot the fox. Enough mag to shoot foxes at sensible ranges. No parralax.
  18. I had the misfortune of hearing them live at Slane one time, they were rubbish, even the girls who were die hard fans thought the same.
  19. Tie it's shoe laces together and it's fcuked
  20. So, what's wrong with a horse then?
  21. For Lightforce, the correct bulbs are Osram, part numbers: 50W- 64440 75W- 62137 100W- 62138 Thats direct from the horses mouth (Lightforce).
  22. If you're going new, buy a CZ you like, trigger kit, and spend what money you'd have spent on a higher £ rifle on a really good scope and mounts Oh, and a mod That or buy a Weirauch, weerauch, wei... one of them rifles beginning with W that isn't Winchester.
