  1. In relation to the fees, if you're into rifles then it works out better than the old system. € for three years instead of €38 per year. Shotgun shooters got the raw end of it though, as they were €25 for the first shotgun and €6 per year for subsequent licenses if my memory serves me correctly. I was in the first lot to have to use the new forms, once you sat down seriously to do them most of it was OK. But, they were in too much of a rush to get it done, and a lot of shooters were nervous about not having certain details clarified in time to get work done, such as fitting alarms,
  2. The vixen was much redder than the photo, I think the flash has washed some of the colour out. As Dwighet said at the time, couldn't have shot her any better if a person wanted to taxidermy it. I often thought that about a lurcher to be honest. We have an awful lot of bogland around here, most of the time I'd be shooting foxes the grass is a light brown colour, hard to pick out a shot fox at time, especially if you're on your own. Lurcher would have had a good chance to run that fox too, not sure if he was finished coming in or not.
  3. Ahhhh I don't need any more help spending what little money I do have thanks Needs and wants and all that (Must do Lotto tomorrow).....
  4. Dwighet contacted me a few weeks ago, asking if I'd bring him out foxing up in Conamara. I'd just seen a photo of his Remington R-15, so naturally, the wheels were well greased lol. We agreed on a date for our shoot and said we’d check on the weather forecast for the green light the night before. The flooding in South Galway is pretty bad and I had my doubts whether I’d get a “can’t get through†call or not. I rang Dwighet when he was around Galway city, wondering about his progress “Never knew my car was a submarine, water was coming over the bonnetâ€. And I thought I was crazy
  5. Check the reflector, see if it's tarnished or burnt in any way.
  6. Just what I was gonna say. I once turned right where I shouldn't have, traffic corps car around the corner Bagged, fined and pointed , good enough for me, lesson learned.
  7. Or you could just buy an amber filter, no?
  8. Sorry, I should have been clearer in my initial post. I'd be happy with putting down "live catch" mice traps for sure. I just don't know which are good and which are crap. I can't be bothered with snap traps at the moment for some reason. As for the .223, I'll be using ballistic tip rounds as I'd be worried in case hollow points would exit the mouse Can't be too careful
  9. I'd love to, but no air gun and I'm not putting in the extra stuff I need to be able to get one either lol. Would .223 be too big for mice I wonder, hmm
  10. Around €50 a week, which is getting a bit silly. I'm a little at some of the numbers here.
  11. Hi folks, got a couple of cage traps set for ratty. Got three so far with peanut butter. Twice I've seen the cages closed with bait gone and no ratty. Would mice rob the peanut butter? In one case it may have been possible for ratty to rob the bait from the side (my excuse is that I was in a rush). If they are on the steal, what options have I for catching them? Aside from snap traps and poison, not a fan of the latter. ATB, John
  12. Nailing your own ear to a tree
  13. Bet ya you're just like me, it's your hearing clarity that's been damaged, not your ability to hear the volume of things. They done a chart up for me, had a wave going through it and letters of the alphabet in different places, basically I could hear one side of the wave but not the other. So, that's why I get it hard to hear in situations with background noise, certain letters in words just drop out of my hearing range. Then the tester said that my ability to hear noise, like you say the blade of grass isn't affected at all. As I said up above, there's much more to it than just "going dea
  14. Eh, I'll keep that as a definite "Plan B" Seriously though, adding extra holes to your mod does not make the rifle quieter
  15. .22lr for rabbits, cheap shooting that teaches you an awful lot about the wind and drop, cheaply! Centrefire for fox
  16. Got a call from the law last night. Am approved to go and buy a mod for my .223, happy days Kinda had my mind set on an ASE CQB, got a price of €450 for the mod and rifle threading together. Not sure now if I should go for a different mod or not. I've heard it in action and it reduces the noise very well. I've heard two T8's on a .223 and .243 but don't like the rust/pinhole issues they suffer from. Also got recommended an Atec mod. Anything else out there doing the rounds that's worth a serious look? Weight and price are issues. ATB, John
  17. Been shooting rabbits out to 285 with my .223 lately, once I get more used to the longer range stuff it'll easily go farther. Farthest fox so far for me is 270, which surprised me by feeling real easy. Try the .223, roll your own brass soldiers if you can and don't look back. I'm using 40 grain Hornadys and have shot several foxes over 200 yards, they don't complain, they just go down and lights out if I do my bit. 55 grain will give you better performance in the wind but more drop, depends really how far out you want to shoot the red lads.
  18. You can get a free hearing test from some companies that make hearing aids. The reason I say that is the bang may not bother you anymore, but have you wondered why that may be? Because I didn't use hearing protection I have lost 50% hearing clarity in my left ear, 20% hearing clarity in my right ear and suffer from tinnitus. I'm not saying you're going deaf, or that your hearing is damaged but a word to the wise on this is to be smart and learn from other peoples dumb ass mistakes. Hearing, once damaged, doesn't repair itself, so, when it's gone, it's gone. The thing a lot of peopl
  19. Nope, you don't FGAU buddy What chums would they be exactly? Because you've obviously not a clue as to what happened.
  20. Good man, you're not denying it this time at least You don't know history either by the way, given the above quote. Why was I banned off PW, for questioning the moderators integrity actually, nothing to do with anything I'd posted. Get your facts right So why was it you posted the motto of a terrorist organisation then, since you made such a big pretense about fighting terrorism? Mmm Mmm Mmmmm, smells like deep dish hypocrisy to me. You only ever wanted ot rub people up the wrong way, as ever.
  21. How did I know the alter ego would pop up Michael Collins happens to have been one of the most instrumental people who founded the country in which I live. As for terrorists, it wasn't me who had the motto of the UVF on display Which relative was in the UVF then? Same one as in the UDR maybe?
  22. Seems to me you're the bitter one Mr Terrorist. FGAU wasn't it you had up? Who was that in memory of exactly?
  23. I think you must've been reading a different thread, I looked but couldn't find it, have you got a link? All was well in here until one particular English supporter came in and commented idiotically. Perhaps you need to re-read this thread, from the beginning to gain some perspective.
  24. Good man, I'm happy for you. You have the World Cup to look forward to, where your media will unreasonably hype the England team up, raising the hopes of the less pragmatic people in your society. If or when England go out of the competition you will be able to look forward to low life red top attacks on players for failing to live up to that unrealistic hope and the demonizing of the manager and or players. It will drag on for months and months. Yes indeed, we'd mourn that type of thing here I wish I were in your shoes. No, really, I do Same old, same old Edited, typing err
