thanks all, for the interesting answers. I prefer to treat my own dogs for most things and don't have much faith in some vets, but just wandered how it would be if it all came on top. It's certainly something to think about

Does anyone know the legal aspect of self treatment of working dogs injuries and ailments at home without going to the vets? This follows someone I know being raided and after excessive court costs was eventually fined for failing to take a dog mildly affected by fox mange to the vets even though he had treated the dog himself with Aludex etc.

got a crackin round mouth off ebay and welded rebar along the top to save slicing my boots in half, cut a root cutter in the tip with a grinder and sharpened the edge. Stay away from wooden handles and cheap shit get a proper one like a bulldog and it won't let u down. The very best tool in my diggin kit is a post hole digger, u can get em from screwfix or wickes. I bought one after reading darcy's book and don't know how we managed without it.

be very careful with ivomec it has a reputation for killing jrt's an collies with the blue eye gene, an all other dogs it seems to work really well. The very best stuff is aludex. I empty a full bottle 100ml into a 45 gall plastic drum the fill it 3/4 with water. I dip every dog in the kennels, affected or not then do the affected dogs again 10 days later. Then put the remaining solution in a knapsack sprayer and soak the kennels and runs transport box/ trailer etc. Seleen shampoo is quite good as well but is not quite as heavy duty, but it can be bought without prescription.

Hi There alcapone, if you would have rang me off a landline without hiding behind a withheld number and told me your name, I may have give you more details about the dog. If you've been in this game long enough you should know that you have to be wary of bogus phone calls. As it was I only had a handful of genuine callers. The rest sounded like they had come home pissed and wanted someone to talk to. They shud have rang the fukin samaritans. Does anyone have an opinion on which is the best foxcaller. I've tried loads of the plastic mouth callers and haven't really found a consistently good one. Any ideas??
