They are real belters, some wonderful breeding behind them, He's a good stamp of a dog Saturns Spirit, nice to see a litter full of colour and looking very traditional, what price you asking for the little belters, and fair play that a few have already got homes lined up. WELL DONE!!

definitely a market for it, the main thing is not to be expensive with it, places are selling it for far too much money, I love the stuff mate, would buy more, I just get all my mates in the forces to bring me some back when they are home...

the spaniel is supposed to quarter the ground in a pattern, never ranging to far, locate birds-flush them steadily and then retrieve the fallen bird to the handler. very brief reply but hope that is of some help.

Springer Field Trial - next week
rickyspringer replied to welshboy454's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
It was a very sucessful trialling line, there is many, but I think the point of the matter is that there is a difference in the lines now, lines nowadays have been tweaked for trialling, that is the aim for many of the big kennels now. They improve one attribute and they may cause a fall in another... -
Springer Field Trial - next week
rickyspringer replied to welshboy454's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
this has turned into a very interesting subject, some great replies... I believe that certain sires are being used far to much, surely it can not be good for the breed we need diversity. I also believe that true bramble bashers are a dying breed, I have heard on a number of occasions of dogs not being able to hit the heaviest of cover with gusto, I don't think this would of been the case years ago. And also regarding the stamina of certain dogs that is also a great point, i raised this subject on "Gamekeeper or Trialler bred" I personally think alot of trialling bred dogs can't man -
Springer Field Trial - next week
rickyspringer replied to welshboy454's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
I know a dog which is entered into this test, he is currently a ftw and the owner believes he may be in contention of winning this one, I do not believe that its a problem with there not being an abudance of thick cover, these dogs aren't trained to just compete in this type of trial, they have to be verstaile... So theoretically these dogs in this trial will definitely be able to smash heavy cover. Ricky -
couldn't agree with you more Jimb, its all about this dog has x amount of ftch's and ftw's, its awful, its all a huge money maker, breeding is what the big boys do for the money, puppy farmers alot of them....I reckon a high number of the dogs don't see a working day, they are there to be bred from. I would much prefer to buy from a true dog man, who keeps dogs which suit his needs and what perform in the field, some of them may not be world beaters but they will be hard working honest dogs. that suits me fine. Big kennels definitely breed on a commercial scale. not with the wellbeing

this seems to be the norm nowadays, alot of people aren't bothered by papers, as long as the dog does the job thats good enough... I think its down to alot of lost faith in the KC, breeders making big numbers aswell as breeding for names. I know alot of Gamekeepers or beaters how you have said don 't keep dogs with papers. In my opinion its about the names in the pedigree aswell as how many ftch's there is, load of rubbish in my eyes. I don't believe we will lose the gene pool, as trialling is a big..aswell as high money pets with tails. like the terrier men do, worker X work

Should be easy to get the dog working with the lurchers, what you want the dog to do should come natural, obedience is the key and take everything step from step form there. 19 months is a good age also, still trianble if its not compltely unruly. One to One work will be the key in the early days of training. As for getting the dog on the whistle, ie for recall i will blow a number of times, very quick. to introduce this call the dog by name whistle and give the dog its food... keep building on this as the dog gets better at recalling...then whistle out of the blue when the dog comes

great response, over doing the retrieve when dog is younger really does spoil, less is definitely more, I have learnt that the hard way also.

in my opinion anything forced is no good, i'm with welshboy, tiny lil steps, don't over do it though, and make a huge fuss..

Guns Choice not placed in Field Trial
rickyspringer replied to welshboy454's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
i think its a joke also, a good working dog, is not necessarily a good trailing dog..working dogs need to use initiative on occasions, trialling dogs cant think for themselves. control is the key!!! Very good subject to raise and I would love a triallers opinion on it. I do not believe there is any right or wrong with the subject but would love a good knowledgable answer on the matter. -
Guns Choice not placed in Field Trial
rickyspringer replied to welshboy454's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
well logically you would think the dog would be placed, but the dog may be good from a shooters point of view but may make errors to the judges eyes...These trials are very strict and the littlest mistake is picked up on!! Its a cracking website spaiels in the field, some wonderful articles on there. -
I do believe so, due to work commitments or the like... needs to go to a good knowledgable home, I have seen the add somewhere.
