    I would go springer, but like someone has mentioned if its your forst dog a lab might be a good choice, go with what you like and be enthusiastic and you will definitely get some progress!!

    stargazer you are not being too soft, just be that bit more vigilant, never ever should you chastise a dog for making a mistake, perserverence is the key..like everything else with training. its sounds like your half way there, just keep an eyey on the dogs movement, when the nose goes doen and they more erraticly thats your time to get them out, the business will soon follow and then its time for lots of praise. i'm currently going through the same process. you will get there but never be harsh. regards RS

    wannabekeeper i definitely think yoiu are barking up the wrong tree, its your opinion and i am not faulting that, do not mix in-breeding with line-breeding. line-breeding is the key to any sucessful breeding, the outcomes are far more less chance. there is a much bigger probable outcome, you just have to be realistic regarding the faults and the good attributes of both dogs. if in doubt google line-breeding/make up your own minds.

    to me in-breeding is mother to son, father to daughter and brother to sister, too close in my opinion, i would go for uncle to niece, aunty to nephew, cousin to cousin and grandsire to grandaughter, still breeding close but far more less chance of the bad genes being exagerated. thats the key with in-breeding. everything is exaggerated, you could get some amazing pups where all the good genes and qualities have come into the breeding, but you could get deformities on the other hand, not worth risking if very close in my opinion.     £200 in my opinion is a very fair price, I wouldn't pay more than that for a an ESS without papers. What work is the sire doing mate?? What colour are both sire and dam?? Have you got a vet lined up to perform the docking and what is the bitch doing mate. Only showing interest as a family member is after a LW dog in the next few months.

    well good luck when the pup arrives, i'm made up for you and what a cracking choice of dog. I would go steady with the training of the pup, lots of bonding get a nice relationship going with the dog, teach the pup to sit and have a quick recall. this will be your foundation for the future. I would do some play retrieves, nice an easy to begin with,everything should be a game. I would then get a lil more serious at 6 months and let some real training begin.     thought i'd give abit of a feed back lads and lasses, dog has settled really well, got a great appetite on him, no longer struggling with the constipation, everything is running fine now, the occasional squits but will slow down when he gets used to the barf. made up with the little fella, hopefully he is going to turn into a good one for me, thanks for all the comments.

    leave the retriveing for a while, when you do introduce it, do it in an alleyway or hall. the dog will bring it back to you in theory. Good Luck mate.

    thats not bad mate, i'm with mackay, go for that mate, people knock line-breeding but thats the only way you can breed and the probable outcomes are much higher. look into line-breeding mate, make up your own mind. regards RS
