they are spot on then mate, what dimensions are you single kennels and is the garage normal sized or bigger, think i may do something similar.
-
very good advice dell, obedience is the key, a well bred spaniel will hunt instinctively
-
looks a very decent set up! have you put drains in there too or not?? Would like to see more set ups if anyone has them and any advice, I have a garage which isn't being used which would be a good kennel block. RS

Moo that is a cracking stamp of a labrador, keep us posted on further images and how her training progresses. Catcher you have a great stamp of an ESS...My ideal looking dog you have there. RS

A whistle does give consistant sounds, that why most of us use them. As you say, he knows the recall command so he's just taking the p1ss in the bushes. You now have 2 choices 1. Don't give the command in cover (your just reinforcing a negative) 2. Get in the cover after him & show him he can't get away with it. I know this is a pain but you MUST do it everytime he ignores you. He'll soon get the idea great advice butcher boy!

in general speaking i have always preferred bitch's, I now have a dog pup which was a complete unexpected arrival and he is definitely changing my mind regarding the outlook on dogs, as mentioned before his temprement seems to suit me better.... Its all horses for courses. A old man once told me a funny lil thing though. (he only kept bitch's) He said dogs were only good for 3 things, eating-fighting and shagging.

its simple mate, if the dog recalls already, just simply call the dog, then whistle your whistle.lots of fuss when the dog comes back, make sure you only blow the whistle if you are sure you will have some success, gradually faze out the voice call and blow your whistle...i ca assure you it will work, remember the key points though. 1. don't blow if you are not 100% the dog will come back. 2. Don't use the whistle too much as the dog may become deaf to it. both of them points go together really. Good luck

my advice is go for it, i have a springer who has a full tail, she catch's it and it bleeds but thats life, i wish she was docked when we got her but i wouldn't change her for the world... there is ways of protecting the tail so don't rule the dog out if you like him. also if your vet is fully understanding and is in favour of docking he may amputate teh tail, would cost around £200 though... Good luck and if you get him get some images up. RS

very very similar i was looking o there a few minutes ago, based in kidderminster i think?

Nik i would go with the option of kenneling the dog throughout the day, obviously the dog could come in when suitable, but that would be a good platform i think, wouldn't matter if your wife and kids were in or out,the dog would have it's safe haven and own space. You could then integrate the dog into the family at night time and if you chose allowed the dog to sleep in the kitchen or maybe put him back in his kennel after some family time. 2 dogs definitely keep each other company, but don't go with the option of getting 2 pups in "you will have your hands full" Have you thought of

cracking dogs lads, always had a soft spot for the whippets... all of yours look great lads, if you know of any going for a pet home give me a shout as my dad is after a bitch. RS

go for it mate, what harm could it do in trying to train a dog to do some work for you in the field aswell as being a companion, there has been a few articles in shooting mags about these dogs being worked in the field, so i think you have a chance. Ignore any criticism you get, people try getting staffys and so on to work for them ad get a massive thumbs up from all, as soon as poodle is mentioned people laugh. No harm is done and how good would it to be to get your dog trained to a standard you are happy with. Regards RS

haha i reckon he will give a good account of himself in your kennels, we know how soppy your dogs are!! Yeah Rainmaker seems the man he has some great advice, its not a huge problem to be honest, just a pup thing as you say, I was hoping there was a repellent to stop them shitting in a certain area. I will just bear it for now and hopefully he will come out of it. I'l have to get across soon and catch up, missed having abit of male affection off yourself! lol
-
hello there blackpack, thought i'd get some good advice off yourself, this pup is going to end up at the blackpack bootcamp if he carrys on!! I'm sure your monster of a pup will put him right.

Hi all, Got a pup here, who is filthy.. will stand in his own mess,or sit in it. He is getting right on my nerves with it, as I am not used to any of my dogs being like it they have all been very clean. In the day he is in the dog run which is also next to the back step, whilst he anticipates to come him, he sits waiting, but he also has the habit of poohing where he waits so obviously,he stands in it, sits in it! Any advice welcome, his business is picked up as soon as i see it,and I am extemely vigilant. Will he grow out of this or is there anything i can use to repel him

one last thing pal, its all good setting the foundations for the summer hols, but you could do it whatever time to be honest pal, don't make exceptions for the dog at first, set the dog to live around your lifestyle, because if not there will be a huge shock to the system when the holidays are over! Good Luck with the search for a dog in the coming months and keep us all informed. RS

good informative reply Dan, you have hit the nail on the head "its very hard to enjoy a stroll with a spaniel" I am the only one in the household who can take the dogs out. the missus gets no joy out of it!! Thats another plus for a lab!! Wish I chose one instead haha
-
Nik, I would personally go for a labrador then mate, alot more steady than a springer or cocker, a lab could definitely sit still with you whilst fishing and also are great wildfowlers, retrievers and family companions. I am a spaniel man myself but for yourself i think a lab will be ideal, they are very biddable, and will be more suited to your lifestyle I would think, with a spaniel if you let bad habits set in, its very hard to get them back to a good standard. I learnt that the hardway haha. I think you have thought about your options very carefully, and you will know whats best for
-
Well I think it is possible, the key to the whole situation would be that when your away, your family don't allow bad habits or let training go slack. You could definitely train a dog to a level which is suitable for yourself, ie a good family pet,who is well behaved in the house and around the family but also a dog who can work in the field with you. (What tasks do you want the dog for) This will help in your choice of dog, what breeds do you like?? In my opinion the popular gundog breeds, lab, ess, cocker have got great temperaments, ideal around children if raised correctly. Look

great advice from above, his pup terrier could retrieve like a lab, i couldn't believe my eyes. Good Luck anyway, but definitely go with the advice you have been given, you will have some good sucess. RS
