  1. Nik I am over the moon for you pal, very exciting times ahead. Lots of hard work also so don't be put off by the mess in the first few weeks. Can't wait to see the images what names you fighting over??
  2. wellfrom reading your post it sounds like everything is pretty normal, and that he is progressing nicely. I can understand him chasing after the others for that short amount of time, he is a pup. I don't think there is anything wrong with him chasing when he has flushed a bird or rabbit either, this is natural behaviour and he is showing natural skill at finding game and flushing it. YOUR JOB as a trainer is to channel his natural behaviour to your advantage so that would mean when he flushes, you make him sit. IE sitting to flush, giving you opportunity to shoot game and for him to be
  3. Dave that is a very good reply and I agree with you one hundred percent, I love to see the dog work and hunt up and I agree if we draw a blank we have still had a good day and I have watched my dog graft its heart out. For me I love the mooch to see whats about and if anything comes along then great!
  4. j davies be constructive pal, he may of posted alot but that doesn't make him a pro, this is his first dog and obviously he is having a struggle at present. Ellir the way to stop this behaviour is to ptentially get the dog on a long line and when the dog is about to do some type of chasing correct him, or train him on the stop whistle or recall, forget dummy work for now.your dog is young and it seems like he needs obedience work and needs to be 100% at that before you can move on, maybe you are putting the dog in situations where he can fail, start off on a tenis court or something and pr
  5. very good response, i agree that it depends on the temprement of the dog. My bitch which was my first gundog is a complete case, she's sensitive but hard at the same time if that makes sense, she was a tough dog to train as a first one, everything is coming together and we are doing well now, i have left the techniques of the gruff voice, she needs to know that I am on top of her at all times and if she takes a step wrong I am there to correct her instantly with a scruff or placed in the spot she went wrong. Trust me if i give her an inch she takes a mile. Its a shame because I always feel tha
  6. Hi all, thought I would raise the subject on correction, what theory do you use on a day to day basis, ie for not stopping to a whistle, slow recall or none at all, general disobedience. Look forward to informative answers as correction is a huge role in the training of dogs. RS
  7. that is terrific breeding in the advert and all health tests are done so a pup from there would be ideal, my only reservation would be this pup is bred to work. You want one which can switch off when your away and be a good sedate family pet/ A pup from this litter could potentially be like a ferrari. In my opinion I would go for something a little less well bred. "Get Ready for a big debate on this" A pup will definitely be fine in a kennel in the day and even so at night if made correctly, my kitchen is colder then my kennel! I have always done 5 mins to every 4 weeks of age exercise, bu
  8. nice pictures stu, the boy is coming on very well indeed.
  9. hi is your dog kc reg have you the papers to say she is KC papers aren't the be all and end all, i have a border terrier which lives near me, ugly lil thing doesn't look anything like a BT and the fella paid a big fee for the little bugger with KC papers, you must of heard of some very well bred KC cockers being "Sprockers" there are many unscrupulous breeders out there. On this particular case it is very hard to say, maybe you should do alot of research into it, ask a well known lab breeder for there opinion, as you say it could be the winter coat, looks like there is a dash of s
  10. scent you have just made me day, topman, you are one funny fella.
  11. good sound advice Baz, Nik I am with Baz on this you get a strong bond with a pup, you want to tie getting a pup in when you are at home for a lengthy period, that bond will never be broken, with a older dog you are miles behind, you have missed all the excitement and going from scratch, someone will have already been the dogs world or on the other hand it could be riddled with problems. I think for your needs a nice well bred lab will be ideal, springers in my opinion need more than that walk around the block when you can't be bothered, they need 100% commitment. You have every reaso
  12. vet should do it for definite, my vet was happy to do the procedure. they just have to be understanding, some are. Heard of the problem a number of times due to the 1/3rd off.
  13. think its horses for courses with the different breeds hily obviously, but like yourself i own spaiels, the role has to be to flush the game for the gun, thats a spaniels key role in my opinion.
  14. hendo I was thinking exactly the same, looks a very good stamp and lots of colour just like i like them haha.
  15. all of the above is very sound advice. Good Luck Marc
  16. the breeding is there mate, both very good dogs, wolf and danny, danny sires alot of dogs which look like your bitch, "alot of white and the patch on the ear". I wish you luck in the rehoming, shouldn't be to difficult though they look well and the bloodlines are there. GOOD LUCK Rs
  17. think about £30 for both mate, not 100% sure but won't be anymore than that.
  18. Is that to give his turd the 'totally tropical taste' the lads right so don't jump o his back, when digested in theory the dog shouldn't touch it. I would try pineapple chunks, you might have some sucess.
  19. agree with hendo, pup doing business as usual, very well done again
  20. agree with above, bitch looks a very tidy stamp, what lines are they Rytex?
