  1. beutifull dogs and good to see them over here too. in the fourth pic down there is a lump on his flank which i have seen very often in short haired pointers(fat/water bubble)how old is the dog and have you had it looked at?(the dogs i have seen have been from 4th field or so when they start getting them). nice pics. waidmann
  2. thats the way,job done and the craic a plenty, looks to have been a good trip for all concerned. hope the whisky was flowing of an evening waidmann
  3. there are lots of men who breed jagds for earth work(herr beckmann, rheine. herr benedikt,davensberg...) the terrier club in dortmund will get you the lines of some very well bred dogs of fitting stature for the work you want them for bud. atb waidmann
  4. i give a dry food in a bowl in the kitchen where they can help themselves(always a different type depending where i go shopping, never over 15 quid a bag though)as well as raw chicken and other stuff. i see it as a bulking food. they are both "in weight" as as fit as the proverbial stringed instruments, faeces varies between dry/boney to "proper jobby".another plus is that dry and bones etc clean the teeth. i don't feed tinned food(the only thing they get that comes out of a tin is fish). waidmann
  5. some are old at 35 bud(me included). i think the relevance of age is more down to the light value/pupil width when it comes to bino's and age. atb waidmann
  6. daft lad if u have nothing to say whast helpfull be quiet what is wrong with that reply?? nervous stress(we all know what that is when the mrs...............) is a common cause of weight loss(anxiety,fear......). if the dog is wormed and no increase in calories exerted/reduction in intake then its a valid oppinion. if none of these is the case then i would also take the advice of a trip to the vet bud. waidmann
  7. after the dummy i would use anything you can. she gets used to the smell and feel of all quarry and will not hesitate to pick up. be carefull that she goes on command and not on the shot(this can be a pain when out shooting) as my terrier does oh and make sure the squirrel is dead if its a young dog (they bite like hell!!). good luck with the pup. waidmann
  8. good looking and well bred pup at a good price. all credit to you bud waidmann
  9. good clean catches all round by the look of it, good job waidmann
  10. good news fo the lads. i hope they get their dogs and van back ok. there must be some compensation there to be had(they all claim "no win no fee" nowerdays),where are the dogs kept then? surely not being worked? kept fit? being fed on what?................ its a sad day when the "innocent untill proven otherwise" is reverted to a dark age "i think you must have so i'm taking the lot"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what on earth is this great land coming to waidmann
  11. a dog will wander out of boredom, inquisitiveness i would either keep him occupied(big bone on a chain so he can't carry it off) or keep him tired. the other option is to make a run for him when unsupervised. i would nip this in the bud as when he learns that he can hunt alone he won't need to be near you, this will result in the dog hunting for himself(possibly not retrieving and ranging into the next drive..........). good luck bud waidmann
  12. that looks like an injury while in velvet to me,the start of what the germans call a "wig buck"(peruecken bock) and he was lucky to have shed the velvet at all before being unable to see. it looks like he has burst the calcification while shedding. an excellant cull bud waidmannsheil!!
  13. an excellant cull there mate, well done do you think its a result of an injury while in velvet or a fungal infection?(they call it "strahlen pilz" pilz in germany, its usaually a porus growth of bone.i have necer seen one there though only ever on the jaw). youhave definately done him a service,he would have suffered horribly either from infestation, infection or in the rut. good pics too waidmann
  14. no mate 13cm in total, they say over there that two thirds are in the jaw so they protruded about 4cm. the biggest i have seen had 20cm and 21cm in total. my freind saw three pigs and shot the smallest,he was well over the 100kg mark(gralloched) and hung from the shed roof beam by the snout had his hind feet on the floor!!! skinny as he was(i think he was shot in jan too). the other two are still about as far as i know,(main boar and "adjutant") and leave sign that you can just about cover with a flat hand . the follow up to find that pig took 3 days and he was still alive in a mud hol
  15. splendid pic!! thanks for sharing that with us bud waidmann
  16. i agree that the price is not a deciding factor but the breeding goals are upheld by the clubs/responsible breeder regarding size, weight, and gereral form. i have found that the "breeders out of club" i.e. without papers(making the lineage harder to follow). there are some very good dog men who will do their best for the working dogs and as always there are some who will breed from mediocre/untested stock and sell them as jagdl( the prices for pups reflecting the input of time, effort and money spent on producing/testing the line to a very high standard). as always if buying a dog you shou
  17. there are some lads over this way that use russel x chiwawa(how do you spell that ) and reckon its ok,i've never seen them work. if the dog is small enough and can get round the set then why not. the germans use tiny teckel(rabbit teckel) to great effect. the little dogs will be keen enough if entered properly and yappyness can only aid the bolting. just don't put a bellman and flint collar on it!!!!! waidmann
  18. i can taste it bud (the smell of riled pigs and sweaty dogs..... heaven!!!) the longest tusk i had was 13cm(4-5 year old boar weighing 103kg live, shot in january) and i can remember it like it was yesterday because i spent 8 hours at minus 12 on a high seat after seeing the sign in the snow, then a further four waiting to be picked up by my mate. the pig just fitted in his vitara.if shot before the mating season(rausche) he would have had alot more on him the tusks my son has in germany but i will look for a pic of the boar and a grinning waidmann.
  19. you poor bugger. i live in telford, ever heard of that???(it was in "red dwarf" once,"its a barren land, nobody wants to live there, the natives call it telford"!!!!!!) not much edible around here at all(apart from my terrier and carp!!!) i have to travel to wales for some decent freezer fishing(lucky my da lives there!!). i think the area exploded at the end of the episode as a service to the planet!!!!!! waidmann
  20. some will say first light, some will say to let the pigeon have the first feed . i would go for first light and set up,have a coffee and enjoy the morning(i'm a bit like that sometimes ). take some photos with the crow/magpie caller first thing after you set up and wait for the grey fellas to turn up. what are you shooting over? waidmann
  21. the jagd was bred by people splitting from the fox terrier clubs in germany(he is % foxl) with a few bits and bobs added. there is alot of value laid on "voice" and "gameness" along with nose(sense was not taken into the breeding scheme ). they were bred purely for work in germany(meaning their type of work)as an allround terrier and still is trialled on all areas of work (earth,stoebern/hunting up,trailing/schweiss,retrieve, and anything else you can think of not restricted by size). i have worked them above and below ground and never had any complaints(dog agressiveness is a trait that sh
  22. some pics ned!!!!!!!!! sound write up. brilliant. some hard working dogs bud(i like the camper too ). did you measure the tusk yet? in my experiance the hard ground pigs tend to snap one at some stage(not that it ever made any difference to me as the trophy was always just a reminder of the day). atb for future outings. waidmann. p.s. its about time this got "pinned" as an example of an excellant thread, christ it must have more hits than the newbie board!!
  23. if the spear is for antis then get a good barb on it(being mountain born .... i'm sure you can smear it in something nasty too!!!!). my biggest worry would have been the ricochet in a cave, but hey. it takes some guts to go in there after a cat like that.i know my arse has been twitching a couple of times crawling through tight bramble runs to standing boar and the dogs the thought comes half way down" what to do if the fecker takes me on in here?"(the answear was a pistol in one hand and leopard crawl!!!!). good video. thanks for sharing. waidmann
  24. keeping both eyes open is preferable(the field of vision being greater),but alot of people shut one eye when shooting for various reasons. if you are hitting the targets then something is going ok keep at it bud. waidmann
  25. we zeroed at 50m which i think was back on target at 120m(it just saves you walking so far!!). 35m was at 100m i think but someone will confirm/call me a fool in about 20 seconds i expect waidmann
