two eels last night, the old boy next to me had a barbel of about five pounds and my buddy caught a pike of around the same(lob worm on the drop). both eel caught in daylight. lost two decent feeling fish but they don't count!!! i may pop down with the spinning rod for an hour today/tomorrow. atb. michael

yes bud i'll be there with as many nets as i can muster,at the moment i'm having trouble keeping up with the locals!!! you need to dabble your worm more often mucker(i shall have words with mrs "earth" when i see her!) i have tried sand eels, prawns, mussels etc and always come back to the good old lob worm. heart and liver seem to "wash out" quite quickly. i am considering a pva bag with chicken mince(i feed my dogs with it) and a bit of brest/leg as hook bait? ever tried that?? i hope to have some decent pics of humungous barbel, eels, chub by tomorrow morning to impress everyone w

hello mucker, catching the eels in the daytime untill last light. they have been from a half to around a pound+. the biggest i have seen come out of that stretch wa caught by my dad 11 1/2 inch girth and over 3ft long, he was well chuffed as my grandad had one almost identical stuffed a few years before! i'm going night fishing tomorrow evening with lots of worms and luncheon meat. i spoke to the chap at the tackle shop today and it seems to be slow on the barbel front in general( further up river they seem to be catching). i hope the rain will bring them down to my favorite spots.

just to ask whether anyone has been catching barbel around iron bridge/buildwas? i have been a couple of times now on this stretch where i have always caught plenty of decent barbel, this season i have only had one so far( lots of eels though, the ferrets love the little bootlaces!!) been fishing worm, luncheon meat, halibut pellets, paste, corn, bread, maggot all to no avail( just the worms seem to be doing the job). i have heard the algae is is flower/polinating,the water is unusually coloured.................... i'm happy cathing eels to be fair but wondered if anyone else is having

excellant bit of advice you gave there mate i have done natural horsemanship for a few years and that seems to have snuck in to everything i do with animals and people,it makes sense and works very well. less of the humanisation and more use of the grey matter is what alot of people need when working dogs( dealing with dogs/livestock in general). good stuff. waidmann.

good job ned we could do with some appreciation and positive publicity over here,it seems disney is the death of common sense in the general public(both england and germany). the question asked above, how fast are pigs: the wild boar(in europe "sus scrofa") can reach a maximum speed of 40km/h over short distances and is capable of covering over 40km in search of food ON NORMAL NIGHTS they are very mobile, quick and adaptive to their enviroment(so called "culture followers") not to mention being VERY intelligent(compared to other animals, dogs and alot of the hunting fraternity ).

read the pinned section for terrier work, you need a firearm to dispatch the fox. bolting foxes is in mho down to a stealthy approach and releasing the dog as far away as possible(within shotgun range) down wind from the earth. keeping quiet and waiting without getting bored and wanting "to see whats happening". know the dog and his way of working(loud is better for this type of work) he should not be so hard as not to allow the fox to bolt but not vbe afraid to "get into him" when the opportunity arises, beware of "flying" dogs and inexperianced guns!!! make sure the law is followed

glad you are making progress allready bud however you do the training as long as it works, you will get out what you put in without a doubt. atb in working him. waidmann. p.s. once again a handy looking dog and a good size too at 14inch.

if the basics are there(which command do you use for crapping? as "sit" may cause confusion ) then thats a good start but recall is essential for ALL types of work, without it he will be a thorn in your side.onto the long lead again and keep at it(it helps if he is a greedy bugger, everytime he comes he gets something nice).making a big fuss everytime he does what you want and ignore him when not. how long have you had him? i'm not keen on running a dog from a car(especially on the lead)and would rather use a bike.start off slowly and gain confidence on the lead(for you both) untill you c

a good strong looking terrier. without asking the breeder/previous owner it will be very difficult to find out his make up. there is almost certainly alot of bull in there. has he seen any work? how old is he? recall is one of the first things he needs to learn, this is based on his basic obiedience(sit, down etc).if he seems to be very excitable then get him running next to a push bike(on the lead) for a while(untill knackered) and then try the long lead again, lots of encouragement and no agression on your part(frustration will be read by the dog,its a game) try to get him focusse

waidmann replied to pongo1976's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
has she been running in winter corn? they are spraying fungizide/herbizide at the moment and i have had problems with dogs before. it could just be thorns/nettles. waidmann -
i would say as above remove the bedding for now. check the diet she may have a lacking somewhere along the line, lots of bones and the best quality food you can get her(no matter whether fresh or kibble). you may find she stops doing it then. atb waidmann

yes bud keep the locator on her if you have one she will be coming to the stage of going to ground soon i would think. recall should be the same as with the other dogs bud, just a little more testing they can be stubborn little buggers if you have a big improvement then keep at it(its harder to break a bad habit than to introduce a good one). chin up waidmann p.s. patience is avirtue as my mom used to say

in germany you could take part in a trial as a guest(you pay the normal fee of about 20 euro) i'm not sure about france. its a long way for 20 min work though bud. waidmann

at the speed the newer mowers go they all get it if you don't go through with the dogs beforehand, i always found it better for the deer to put a portable radio and some flashing lights(the kind that sometimes go missing from building sites ) in the field the day before and the doe picks them up and takes them away,i still checked eith the dogs for pheasant nests etc(for the incubator/bantams). i have always tried to get the contractors to mow from one side to the other without going around the fences first(they did it when i was there but usually not when i wasn't ) resulting in most creat

thinking of breeding would anyone be interested?????

how much bull does he have in him? why not to a good working lurcher? do you want/need pups for yourself? these would be the first questions i would ask myself beforehand. good luck, waidmann -
i have always found that bucks stripping on earl and ash seem to be darker(normally wet forest edge deer). depending on the age/pearling that would have gotten you a gold where i lived in germany(they consider 400 to be heavy, most i have shot have been between 300 and 350gramms). a cracking buck, well done(you will never forget him!!). waidmann
-
good to hear you have sorted it out bud that buck MAY be lucky enough not to die a slow and painfull death by maggots/infection if it heals before it gets too warm. i'm not sure why you would want to stick the crossbow in the midlands though well done, waidmann

Have a look at a couple of my garden visitors.........
waidmann replied to martin's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
love them munty pics thanks for sharing them with us bud -
nice one. how old do you estimate that the buck is? (the antler mass seems low to me,meaning an older buck and from the pic the roses seem slanted outward also a sign of age) a pic of the lower jaw would be great(is it common to age the culled deer in england?? in germany its a big part of the cull and all deer are aged by the p1,i have had some BIG surprises ). thanks for sharing. waidmann
