  1. how did we get from dogs that refuse to run rabbits that are close to hedge rows etc to dogs that are reckless? you can still get tryers that dont get knocked up all the time and arnt reckless. everyone one to their own but give me the good honest tryer anyday. i wouldnt want a dog that admitts defeat before its started just like i wouldnt want a dog that amdits defeat when its chasing behind somthing. i had a lurcher x lurcher that started choosing its runs but he was 9 year old when he started which is fair enough. i hate to see young fit dogs doing it that should still be chasing swift

  3. yeah mine will hit cover if the rabbits there i mean the likes of bull crosses where if they chase a rabbit through the same fence 9 times they will try just as hard the tenth time when theres obviously no hope. i am a great believer that collie crosses can estimate thier own capabilities and judge weather a run is feasible or not, where other more simple minded crosses only think 'kill'. they think they can estimate but they dont allow for the quarry making a mistake when the pressures on. some people call this clever but i wouldnt
  4. like bosun said but just to add get it bandaged or taped into its correct position asap.you be suprised the amount of toes saved by doing this.
  5. as i said on my other post casso,do what you are planning. he will see plenty of rabbits when he starts work. theres too many big deal oneals on this site and if you dont agree with them and there methods your not a proper dogman and you cant train a dog ffs. alls the lad is asking should he let the pup chase a rabbit before it starts work when its older and imo it dosent need too. hes not saying shall i lock it up and do no mooching etc. people on this forum make feckin mountains out of mole hills.
  6. coming from a bloke who freely admits one of his dogs is shite, you do it your way mate ill do it mine,no they dont only get road walked, they get all the free running they need, just not in areas infested with rabbits, and as for situations they come across, once im in the field surrounded by a hedge, they only need to know one thing, catch the bunny, So would you keep a dog away from the countryside?? were would you walk a dog that some thing might not make it run even the parks are full of squirrels do you implement keeping it on a lead till its ready to lamp. think your going a bit overb
  7. stick to what your doing mate and ignore all the superstars with their world beaters
  8. get the vet to cut the nail right back to release the pressure in the toe and tape or bandage the toe in the correct position so the brake heals right.rest and lead walking until next season , the more rest the better. i done this with my bitch last year and shes just run this season without any problems with the toe. get some bone radial aswell.
  9. in the right hands a bull x can be a lot more than a one dog job especially the 1/4 bull. some people get a bull x for one job and dont give them the chance or the proper training as you would with a collie x etc. if you put the time in to them you might just be suprised what this x is capable of
  10. if i was you i would put the best tried and tested half x you can find over your greyhound bitch. there isnt much a well bred 1/4 bull cant do if it wants to. good luck whatever you decide
  11. a lurcher cant be too fast if it learns to control it which usaly comes with experience imo. controlled speed is what you want,a lurcher with that extra boost when needed will imo put more in the freezer.
  12. thats what i would say i would say bollocks!
  13. only time will tell, mine will probabley be the day after the gurantee runs out
  14. brilliant, just ordered one but the ? is still out on how many seasons you will get out of one before its fecked
  15. the bike for me is the one apart from running quarry, keeps there nails down aswell. i keep them at a quick trot and dont let them break into a stride for getting condition into them a few times a week.
  16. Yeah i no what you mean mate, and i agree with what your saying about it being a bitza . Would be nice if people would put some pics up of there all rounders. forgot to mention the freak of a bitza would have to have the right owner aswell to get the full potential out of it
  17. i dont think there is a lurcher that is a master off all,you might get somthing that can do it all but certain things it can only do very average or below average if you know what i mean. with you saying realy tested ginny spinner i think alot would of failed if they were seeing pearly whites week in week out pre ban. as for what cross?maybe some freak of a bitsa or somthing lol
  18. you would pay more attention if you had to dig 3 ten foot holes lol. some of them rabbity spots can be a pain in the arse and you have to have faith that your dogs not marking a rabbit. well done lads
  19. all plummer owners who want them kc reg is just so they can charge more ££££ for pups and stud fees. all this talk that its for the good of the breed is bollocks! as soon as they become kc reg most of the people that buy them wont be asking about work they will be asking what shows the parents have won and what they should charge for stud fees or is that the case now?
  20. wouldnt have a first x of either but if i had to pick one i would go for the beddy.
  21. the 1/4 bull is a good capable cross and needs no collie adding to the mix
  22. just keep trying and dont get disheartend, you will get some in the end. when you can mention mr farmer up the road that you do some rabbiting for you will find it a bit easier to get more permisson then. good luck
  23. why is it that people say bull x havent got any brains?? is it becuse they are tryers and will run somthing that a collie x thinks about for a few secounds then thinks nahh i might not catch that which to me isnt clever! if you put enough time and effort into a bull xs training you would be suprised of the standard they could reach.
  24. your right about game being used to much moo, think some people get it confused with keen lol heres somthing copied of another site describing game Game means the ability to a do a task when the odds are stacked against the animal. When a normal animal would quit, a game one will not. "Game" does not mean, aggressive, violent, etc. All it means is that an animal has the will to win against all odds, and never to back down. For game dogs or cocks it means to continue fighting when a normal dog "cur" would give up. Some dogs are good fighters and can often win before gameness
