How about beddy x whippet (just because there's one local to me!)?

David, 33 on Wednesday, live in Essex with girlfriend and our two children (boy/girl). We have a lurcher, an ESS, 11 ferrets, 1 cat, 10 chickens and a few thousand honey bees!

My bitch has just come into season and it got me thinking, maybe I'll breed from her next year..... She's a 2 year old wheaton x grey and the question is, what would be a good stud to produce a litter of good rabbiting dogs? (I was thinking whippet but I'm sure other people will have different suggestions)

Where in Essex are you? Thanks, David.

Drop them an email and say you want sheet netting for making a longnet for rabbitting....they'll know what you mean!

I joined awhile ago, got a few emails, put myself forward, but nothing came of it! A mate who I ferret / lamp with picks up for a local shoot.....I get invited along sometimes as an unpaid observer As with everything, it's who you know at the end of the day!!

Bought some 10z nets and tried them for the first time today. Annoyingly the wabbits just shrugged them off......out of 5 bolts....1 bunny. The only thing that held the buggers was one of my handmade hemp jobies. Also some chap was walking a psycho dog around the gravel pits which distracted my mut somewhat. Recall is cr*p at the best of times but today she just wanted to see what all the noise was about..... Better than sitting at home I suppose...

I think I sent if off on the 22nd of August. I had the home visit towards the end of October and then another last Thursday (to check the window locks). Not bad I thought!!

Need to sell this to finance my shotgun purchase.... BSA Lightning .22 (old style) Replacement walnut ambi sporter stock Theoben Gas Ram Sling and swivels Simmons WTC 1.5 - 5 x 20 I'm in Essex and would prefer face to face and cash. I'm looking for £200 ono.

Well, that wasn't too bad. Just a couple of security issues to sort out (and my lack of experience......).

Came back from a days ferreting on Sunday with scratches all over my back...... My other half thinks I'm having an affair!!

I have the FEO coming out on Monday. First time I've applied so what can I expect?

I've been inspired by reading this section of the site and want to get my own rig. Picking up a long net seems pretty easy, pegs also (Magnum Trap Co's seem to be popular), but what about a basket.... Magnum, Brinded and Master Hunter all sell them but what are the differences in design and use? I'd be interested in your thoughts /comments before parting with my cash! Thanks.

What a fackin great idea !!!!!!!!!!!, after all honey bees do not have any usefull impact on the eco system do they, oh and they arent becoming more scarce year on year are they. You would do well working for one of the BIG pest control companies, they will nuke anything. Sorry to rant, but i think you could do with learning a bit more about the countryside before handing out wisdom. I'm with mole trapper here (my other passion is beekeeping)....

Thanks for the encouragement, glad I'm not the only one who's had a bit of bother. I wanted a dog for ferreting and a bit of lamping, was going to stick with tradition(!) and go for a collie cross, but when this litter came up locally........

My dog is now a year old. She's a Wheaten x grey, about 22" with a broken coat. I chose the legyest of the bitches but recently I was introduced to one of her brothers and he is huge..... I read somewhere that your first dog is usually the best as you're enthusiastic and spend loads of time on training. I'm not sure about this as you can make a load of mistakes with the first (I know I have!!!). She was weaned on Beta Greyhound so that's what I bought but she didn't seem to eat that much. I switched to James Wellbeloved and she seemed OK on this (or so I thought) until a couple of

Wow, good response guys!! The consensus seems to be "move" with the priviso that things are changing. Ellie's just said that she'll start packing after lunch.......
-
My other half spent her formative years in Ireland and is now trying to convince me to move there. I keep moaning about this country going to the dogs and this is strengthening her argument..... We have two young children, a lurcher, four ferrets, some chickens and a veg garden (you can see what I do for fun). I work in I.T. so it looks like employment shouldn't be a problem. So what's it like over there guys, the good and the bad?! Thanks in advance, Pyg.

My rifles: SFS tuned HW95, .22, thumbhole stock BSA Lightning, .22, GasRam, replacement walnut "sporter" stock AA S410, .177 Up until quite recently I had a Theoben Sirocco 2000 .20 but sold it to make room for a shottie. I still haven't filled out the forms.....and spent the money on another SFS 95. This one has a walnut "sporter" stock, a bull barrel silencer and is .177. I like Simmons WTC scopes and have one 1.5 - 5 x 20, one 3-10 x 40 and two 3-10 x 50. I spend far too much money on this "hobby"......hope she doesn't find out!
