  1. some nice pics there lad have been around bop alot longer than me for sure lol. but just like in the dog world i have met some that have been flying birds even longer than you but imo they never grasped it i.e.dont have a bloody clue! as iv said before its all down to the individual not the bird imho they all have different personailty,s no doubt. the imprint my brother flew for keith was alot more difficult than my fella but i let the brother get on with it and in 8 weeks he had 32 kills with it. he done such a good job he was asked to fly him this season what im saying is my bro o
  2. This is my point Ross, imagine all those lads who lost harrises getting Goses as there first bird either a countryside full of lost Goses or more likely bins full of dead goses.Id rather put one lad off who just might make it than encourage 20 dickheads who dont know a hawks arse from its elbow.Ive said all along mate i dont think your wrong regaurding getting a Gos,if you have a ggod head on your shoulders but how do you distinguish on here the good from the bad?.You got your Gos off Keith because he knew you were a good lad who had what it takes. We dont have that luxury on here mate. goo
  3. dont forget hte harris hawk. i seen my mates female bag more than 2 goses on a few occasions. and they wernt muggins either. but for flying feather then it has to be mugged for the harris and redtail imo. i liked nothing mre than flying ducks with my gos last year. for that kind of sport ya need a gos imho. Your mentor was Keith Barker wasnt he? theres the difference in you having a Gos as a first bird and this guy,you had someone guiding you through it all:victory: yes he was but your wrong in that keith guided me through it all. he mentored me for a season when i had no bir

  6. iv seen harris ans reds at work and it was a pleasure watching them. but they dont have the heart in the mouth explosive pace that a gos brings imho.
  7. you being serious.2months in nick for a few bunnys. no he is not .in ireland permission or no permission you wouldnt even get your gear taken off ya by the coppers never mind a jail sentence. a few years back i was poaching on some land. the farmer took my reg number of my van and about a week later i got a knock on the door from the pigs. he asked me what i was doing down there! i said hunting! he said ok the farmer thought you were stealing stuff. which i replyed you can take a look at my dogs and the rabbits they caught down there as there in my freezer which he declined and went
  8. will do lad looked at your site and it looks great
  9. agree can remember one where one of his dogs hit a rabbit just as the rabbit was entering a burrow on a bank! one of the best pics iv seen.
  10. will have a look see and no probs lad and cheers colonel. got lucky with that one lad as my lens is crap iv taken 10,000s of photo,s and that my favourite one
  11. cheers lad no probs, belt away. what website is it?
  12. all depends,s on the person. i am lucky in a way i could fly him near every day and have lots of permission due to working my dogs and i took my time with initial training and made sure his recall was spot on to the fist and lure off the training perch and low branches on the creance before i flew him free with his telemetry of course.
  13. no offence taken :thumbs:i think id depends on the person and not really what his mates fly imo if he knows the basic training which for a gos its pretty much the same as a harris or redtail and if he has the time and land to do one justice then i dont see a problem if im totally honest.
  14. cheers LL. some nice pics there yourself
  15. cheers lad. great user name you have
  16. well i was a newbie and i didnt think gosses=macho. also i didnt find the gos i flew unpredictable, nor the ones my mentor flew and even not the one my brother flew and actually i found it quite the opposite once ya know what your doing. but i do agree that you need time on your hands to fly one.
  17. cheers lads. i probably know yeve seen em before but i havent started my season yet lol. the camera is a cannon 1000dslr. the black dog is 4/8 grey,3/8 whippet and 1/8 saluki.
  18. thanks for that supersam thats the way that i say it also my brother was coming out watching me fly mine. and my mentor gave him a loan of an imprint male to fly and he did a good job with him. flew him for a few months no bother. yeah but you did it with a mentor who was also flyin a gos true but his mates fly harris and redtail,s. what iv seen of redtail,s there every bit as hard to fly as a gos imho. mabey more time with a gos is needed so if he can fly the bird near every day like i could and has a good head on his shoulders i dont see why he cant start with a gos.

  20. i got a male p/r 50/50 german/finnish gos last year as my first bird. did a year with a mentor that flew gosses before i got the bird and had no trouble with the gos. he managed to lose a talon over tangling with a rabbit in mid november and i had to finish the season early but at that date he had 114 kills. he took rook, grey crow, maggie,s,jackdaw,s,rabbits, pheasants, ducks, and took a black back gull too! if you have a good head on your shoulders i dont see why you cant start with a gos like i did
  21. never clipped any of the dogs iv had over the years. all different crosses too. plenty of road walking keeps there nails short and also keeps there pads nice and firm instead of clipping or trimming your dogs nails try walk it every day, twice if possible on the road for an hour-hour n a half a time, imo its a more healthier way of keeping the nails short
  22. just bought treadmill today for my dogs, should be ready for season now! wont be long now
