  1. 4/8 grey.3/8 whippet.1/8 saluki. i think all dogs are different lad and some just have it in em for fox where some just dont. if your thinking of getting a pup id say just make sure the parents do what you want your pup to do at a high standard
  2. have you any pics mate? where u from? And how much wil u be selling the pups for? And what have the parents done how tall are they and how old are parents Super sam that is a fine example of a dog and if your doing it for sport you dont need nets do you what gets away gets away for another day and you say he did fox pre-ban then what more can u ask for do you or did you do many big rabbits with him dont have many big rabbits but he has got a few over the years. he has taken a handy few fox this season but my main quarry is rabbits. and cheers chilly
  3. I can call mine off am I an anti as well .You sound like a few so called dog men I know making assumptions based on limited intellect .I don,t know who BIG ZOOK is but if their biggest problem is having a well behaved dog good luck to them.I was told by many that my dogs were,nt proper working dogs because I could recall them mid course, apparently they are lacking heart, drive, and what it takes, whatever that is .As the season ends it has become obvious that my well behaved heartless gutless dogs have accounted for more than twice the head of quarry that that these proper dogs have.I must a
  4. Thanks lad, wil keep you posted bet of luck lad
  5. he is a very strong dog and is grey/whippet/saluki. very quick(not as quick as my whippet outa the blocks but faster once in his stride) and now as he has got more experience as he was only 9 month old in the vid he is a very intelligent ferreting dog. also kills fox and does 20+ on the lamp be it i only lamp at the most for 2 hours. ps i need a quick dog to catch bolting rabbits as i dont use any nets!!!!! all rabbits are bolted to the dogs and this dog has caught ALOT of rabbits!!
  6. a whippet collie hound is a good bet for rabbits and fox.best of luck with what ya decide lad
  7. can not see all dog to be same a you say as all dogs are individuals. as for calling a dog off a rabbit, hare or fox then n matter if they are just taking off on the puruit of game or near a strike then i wouldnt be able to call any of mine off at any stage.. would i want them to be called off at my command on game? probably not but then why would i call them off if there chasing game :blink : as for sheep, horses, chickens then they dont chae them as there brought up not to so that quetion dont come into it. being out hunting if i think there paying too much attention to sheep then a yel
  8. all whippets in the right hands work to some degree, brains, nose, stamina the`ve all got that, enter them right and they all work, some better than others just the same as any other working breed yes my vote was reared and if brought up right a they have the prey drive and great nose naturally they will catch rabbits but BRAINS is what they lack from a good lurcher imo.but then working together a tail chasing whippet running with a well educated lurcher can make a perfect team while ferreting
  9. pm me lad  wats up long time no hear pm casso on here and ask him how his pup from my black dog is doin!!!! @johnny.. why ya looking for a 6 month+ old pup? ya in a rush to get a dog for ferreting, laming rabbits for during the summer? get a good worker to worker bred lurcher of the smaller kind(which there are plenty about) pup 6-8weeks old. that way your not inheriting any puppy probs from others a imo 6 month old is to old to buy. get a good summer bred pup johnny and put your all into it and you wont be dissapointed
  10. some say bitches mature faster but iv found its just down to the idividual dog and how much ya take him out. at 8 months then imo is a perfect age at this time of year. if you have pelnty rabbits on your permission then in a month or so there should be plenty half grown,s around that are not to wise and perfect to get a young dog some confidence. then again you can leave him off till sep-oct,thats what i have done with my last lurcher. the choice is yours really.if you feel he is up to it at 8-10 months then i see no reason why you shouldnt be looking for easy opportunities for him to get
  11. the cross bird describes a collie/grey x saluki/grey would be a good bet imo or a whippet/grey x saluki/grey

Thats just it sam, dogs do quit/spew/jack, not all bull crosses were/are where its s

  15. being the one that starting this thread by going by what you said 3-4 nights a week and 3 to 7 fox a night(would like to see pics) then on adverage 15-20 fox a week!! for an adverage of a 3 month season(good winter fox as you said) thats 2-300+ fox a season for a dog(as im guessing by your post your on about a single dog?) i take it they didnt get any stick from all then fox and didnt have to be rested for healing i would like to see some pics of such dogs.
  16. totally agree it not called working whippet fourm for nothin
  17. i agree! cant turn, no wind, cut easy, headstrong, defo not any brain, strong thats it, beddys do same job as a mix. jmo. but i never seen a good one yet. for all you that own one. a clever dog doesnt get bit back. mines 11 year old still could do what anyones one here could do, hes a sal, grey, beddy, mix. good on long ears, on the bushy tails, on the big stuff, and can fill the freezer up with rabbits. Loadsa mates went to wales buying first x bulls, off so called good lines. Theyre crap. my old dog showed em up every time, alright for one bushy, then cut to pieces getting blood all on my se
  18. ya he was.since im too young to remember then i will tell ya about my first nights lamping out in jimmy,s land! sam had 11 runs and 11 rabbits!missed his 12th and took the 13th to end a short session on 12 rabbits from 13 runs!! i was 13 years old then!! remember him pulling game from ground and a night out in on the mallow road where asling3,s double(his father)kicked a running rabbit that sam ran when we told him to duck if the beam came his way. use to do alot of open hunting(bushing)with the terriers which he was very good at also. had an incredible burst of speed and was without d
