  1. I had a great day! Thanks to the organizers and judges. I got a 3rd rosette for my little pup Patterdale Terrier, so I was pleased.
  2. Hi This is a sort of question or maybe more of what do you? or advise? I spent this afternoon at a local fun dog day. Watching the gundog scurry I noticed some owners send their dogs to pick up the first dummy, and some send to pick up the second dummy thrown in a 2 dummy pick up. I think watching my spaniel, he marks the first then the second and picks up best if he goes for the second first and then back for the first. Is there any right or wrong way for this in training for field trials. Is it just a matter of choice or does a dog have a logical way for pick up. 4paws
  3. Really lovely looking chunky pups, I am not surprised they have all sold. Credit to you for the hard work involved. 4paws
  4. Thanks for putting my mind at ease dog fox and every one else., I got my patterdale pup to be a little worker, I think all breeds of working dogs should be worked. Just an update on what he looks like. This is him today at 4 months. Very into rabbit holes, pulled him out the other day by his tail before I lost him down the hole ( maybe thats a good reason to leave the tails on them). Must get a tracker collar for him.
  5. I agree, so now you can see why I was concerned when these two turned up, and I was told they were true patterdales. As for her breeding them, they will be sold as patterdales. Her bitch below, which she is going to mate with the dog, not sure what they will be like. Maybe she does truly believe herself that she has 2 good patterdales if that is what the breeder told her.
  6. hey no I would never take the piss out of anyone, it was just she put so many doubts in my mind i needed to get some expert advice, this is my first patterdale and the only place I know to get it is on here, re-read my first post, I said they were lovely little dogs She also asked if I would let her breed her bitch with my dog. If I am not sure what I am breeding with?(would you not have put up a pic of the dogs just to make sure they were patterdales? so please don`t say I am taking the piss.
  7. This one is mine pic taken a few weeks back., he is a Nuttall bloodline, I saw both the dog and bitch and paid £250, the other 2 cost my friend around £150 each, she is going to breed them. my god I hope I never meet her again.
  8. NO please dont tell me mine below is not a patterdale, he is the smooth coated one in the first pic, the other 2 are my friends.
  9. Hi Just met up today with a friend who has 2 patterdales around 8 months old(pet dogs) I was told my patterdale was a standard, now what does that mean? and hers were miniatures? first time I had heard of a miniature patterdale. Another thing was that mine should have a curled up tail, anyone know what that has to do with a good or bad patterdale, my pup is now 5 months old getting tall. oh and 1 last thing, ears should stand up? well I was sure glad when she left. Just out of interest ,pics below for you to see and let me know what you think? They were both brilliant little dogs

  13. Hi Go with what your mate who has been working dogs for many years and leave them on. I think it is too late to remove them now as they should be done when the tails are docked 3rd day. I think it is the responsibility of the new owners,( keeping them trimmed down) some dogs never have any problems and then other dogs end up always catching and ripping them. As long as they are tight to the leg and not sticking out or deformed vets dont usually do it anyway. Hope this puts your mind and rest and hope you have a few more replies from some of the terrier experts on here. 4paws

  20. Hi sorry to burst your bubble but james douglas was a twat & couldent train a dog to save him self the dogs were trained by others & he made videos etc. I dont have many books nor read much but i can highly recomend Working Springers & Cockers by Mike Smith who also trialed spaniels & this to me is a very good book as it lists a profile on the people behind spaniels like Ian/Wendy openshaw/peter combes/carl colclough/denis douglas to name a few & also lists hundereds of FTCH as in most successful stud/bitch a wealth of knowledge to any spaniel enthusiast & of course fu
  21. Hi Ade This has been the best book we found for starting with our working cocker 7 months ago. " The Complete Gundog Training Manual By James Douglas " It is on Amazon for £14. link to amazon books The cocker is my partners dog, and is training up very good so he also decided to go to some field trial classes with him too. 4paws
  22. Hi all Thanks for all your info and advice, There will be NO neutering him. I wonder what I will be told this week at the pup training class. I only want to go to get him socialized with all other breeds of dogs. I was also told last week that you do not harness a dog for training, only guard dogs are trained in a harness, the reason is they need to be vicious and protective, and this is not what you put a pup in. Oh dear I only took him in a little harness as his collar was just that bit too loose and I didn`t want him backing out of it. Anyone got any views on harness or collar
  23. thanks for the reply, i dont think its as bad as i though as there seems to be no new carcases! and still plent of the little buggers! I thought I would look into the rabbit flu, I handle quite a few rabbits and started to think! I have noticed a lot of young rabbits with mixy this year compared to other years. Anyway it was back in 2006 that a man died of rabbit flu and no reported cases since. Here is a link to a bit about it. Rabbit Flu Whats going to get us in the end I wonder Rabbit, swine or bird flu!!! 4paws ( now wearing gloves)
