Having experienced two systems, and from what I can make out, I think in the U.K. we should focus less on medication and genetic engineering and actually throw some resources at helping people in the family situation……people caring for relatives who are ASD or sick or disabled get absolute f**k all help worth the name in that country, financially they don’t get enough to feed a canary every week ! As you know, you have all sorts of tests during pregnancy. You also know your own family history, my niece for instance has Down’s syndrome…..of course it flashes across your mind. But no, I don’t think we should play god…..everything happens for a reason, we may not want it too, we may not understand why, but I believe it does. I agree, but I also take the view that what I believe and what works for my situation may be different to what works and is needed in other peoples situation. ASD, like most family issues I suppose, is unique to each person and situation……everyone’s just doing the best they can.

I’m not going to lower this thread and a decent conversation to a level of our normal playground nonsense so I say this with total calm sincerity: I personally think that question (as a wider question, not a personal attack on you) is an outrageous question……I wouldn’t for one second want to “engineer” my boy not to be my boy…..that’s just my opinion.

I take a view of we can all drive ourselves mad with the “why” but it’s unimportant……”why” won’t change any of our situations so imho it’s irrelevant. We just do what you have done, deal with it.

Absolutely mate, you did your bit, everyone is a grown up in this situation, all you can do is be there if they need you now……that’s how it works squire.

I’d say being the parent of an ASD child makes you realise all the shoe boxes and tick boxes we are made to fit into from cradle to grave…..these kids just say “I don’t want to do that box because it makes me unhappy and I can’t see the logic in that?” The pain is always a parent or the system trying to force them into one of those boxes (be that through ignorance or necessity)…..it’s like pushing someones head under water mate.

Depends what you class as “bad behaviour”, for lots of these kids autism and it’s related conditions absolutely IS an excuse for “Bad”?? Behaviour because they don’t fit neatly into the box created by a one size fits all education system or indeed the one size fits all life system of “leave school, take on massive debt and stress, work so hard it makes you ill, die” It’s torture, and I don’t say that likely, but it’s literally torture for them…..these kids are fighting their own heads every single day trying to fit into our vision of the world and the education system and all the other a

Our doctors dad, who was also a doctor and my old man’s doctor before his son was drummed out the army in WW2 for saying we shouldn’t be fighting Hitler ! lol Old boy used to come round, sit in my front room, drink scotch and letch at my mum ! lol ……..good doctors and proper people of a type we won’t see again.

I’ve just looked it up, the battle of New Cross was 1977 so I’d have still been a little boy. Our doctor stood as the NF candidate for MP in New Cross, my mistake. I remember him telling me in our front room how if you put two skulls on the window ledge he could tell which one belonged to the African and how they was all thick as shit ! Lol He also used to advise patients not to have mixed race children !! f***ing hell, can you imagine that now days !
