hedz made a good post, they are good, tough lurchers. ready for anything. obviously the more wheaten or bull/wheaten in the mix the stronger it will be.

hi bud9, she looks more serviceable, and should catch a hog or even some venison perhaps, but how much bull is there? you could have a similar stamp of dog which is 50% bull, therefore superior jaw power for the bad shit. pointless adding the mastif if your just to breed it out again. but if you like a big dog, maybe used as a guard aswell, then each to their own. again looks a fine dog in great condition, and you work the dogs so hats off to you
-
Not kennel blind mate, quite the opposite infact. I admire all working dogs, and if the mastiff/bull/grey was better than a bull/grey id run them myself. Unfortunately their not, and if you doubt my logic, all I can assume, is that you havent seen a proper bull/grey work. You guys speak highly of them, so are obviously happy, thats all that matters. take care, and good hunting.

Handy for what mate? these dogs couldn't catch a cold, the only time they could be used on a dig is at the end and that would be cruel, no good for setting down in the square, so I cant think what they handy for. Unless its for keeping dog thieves out your yard. Having said that they are fine looking animals but not for me...and I bet take some upkeep.. Have to agree with the above !! Why are such dogs plastered on THL If they don't work ???????????? You can only be implying what both you and I already think?????? Yes ????? OHHHHHHH IT'S A MINDS GAME !!!!! A LOVE MIN

nice looking dogs, but ass working dog overrated i don't see any scares on their faces. But good guard dogs though they dont have to be smashed to feck to be grafters, your forgetting we dont have pumas over here can you imagine a fox in the jaws of one o them...dont tell me theyre gonna get smashed up regular muhammed ali didnt look bad for a fighter pmsl

Look healthy well kept dogs, which you should take credit for... as for the debate about them as working dogs, ive seen similar dogs used as catch dogs for pigs abroad, but in the UK you would be hard pressed to catch a wild boar with a heavy dog like this, you need speed if you manage to get them to brake cover, otherwise they smash through bramble and cover which no big dog like this has a chance of a catch. Might get lucky now and then on rough ground or on the lamp. As for breeding lurchers, its the mastiff part of the deal that is most off putting, and basically is a handicap to the runni

Chokes for rough/game shooting
HALTY LAD replied to fergie's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Id go with half in first barrel, 3/4 in the second. But may change to 3/4 and full for high geese or ducks. -
I hope Judge 2010 see's this! he'l probably have a heart attack! collies bailing pigs, and not a Kangal in sight! lol only messing judgey Thanks for sharing the vid mate, good to see the old ones.

the one thread for bitching, and everyones trying to be the good samaritan... what a joke
-
I just reckon hes a prime messer, simple. And yes, for that reason, I too am a messer! You must think there are some right messers on THL... go on... stop being a messer and tell us who you think is a total fecking messer... that is what the thread is about after all!!!
-
LOL keep em coming... thats the spirit
-
EXACTLY. Heres the thread where we can all happily argue and call each other worse than shite.... and look what fecking happens.... everyone is trying not to argue or be nasty . THL at its finest once again.... Genuine threads get ripped to pieces on a daily basis, like has been said... its bang out of order I agree. This thread was started by me simply to let people vent some frustrations towards fellow THL'ers... if thats me then so be it... but it would be more constructive to give a genuine reply, preferably with proof supporting your claim!

My vote goes to Fence Hopper... the sheer fecking crap this lad comes out with is pure messing at the highest level... from calling bull crosses useless inventions, to breeding them and parading his 'mates' pit bull on his avatar just shows what a complete allround messer he is... if he dont take the title id be amazed. Check this shit out from last year!! http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/123442-bull-x-blog/page__p__1272799__fromsearch__1#entry1272799

Fence hopper you must either be just some thick charv, or wannabe dog dealer... as soon as someone pointed out that the dog probably aint nothin more than a useless pet ye starts spitting your dummy and launching swear words at every fecker. Anyone with half a brain would not plaster pics of even a half decent bull on any site, never mind this yin. Cant belive your front door is still on its hinges, and I feel sorry for your so called mate having his dogs all over THL. And yea he used to slate the bull cross owners like f**k, beddy crosses did the lot LMAO but now that hes breeding them, th

Curlew or Whimbrel?
HALTY LAD replied to OldTrapCollector's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Im no expert on wimbrels but I see curlews a hell of a lot in the summer and it looks like one of this years curlews to me?? If I was confused, like Stealthy said, Id look for the stripey head of the wimbrel. So yeah, my gut feeling says young curlew. -
Dan? Thanks for the replies, I remember a couple of years ago I was up all night trawling through the web looking at random things regarding lurchers/running dogs and somehow stumbled upon a site (well, I say site, it was more like a long page!) packed with info and pictures of some of the earliest recorded longdogs of Britain, and up to modern times... I wish I could find it again. But im certain there will be people on this site that will be fountains of knowledge on this subject! All this got me thinking, that if the British had never had those laws inforced, then maybe they would s

Britain once had a great many longdog strains. There were at one point 6 types of greyhound including rough haired 'scotch' types. As well as the deerhound and wolfhound types. It is interesting to know that these dogs were of a calibre to take any game on the land, and purpose bred for the job. Obviously the strains were of differing sizes, so were better suited to taking different quarry. Back then, crossing these dogs with other breeds such as herding dogs was not done often, probably because it simply wasnt needed. I can only guess that their decline was brought about by the stran

could my whippet crossed with a staffy go lamping
HALTY LAD replied to benjohnson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
im more thinking for next season as she has a bit of chunk on he at the minute as she has been whith my grandparents while i was on hoilday should burn it off tho ill try find a lead 4 my camera How old is she? No point putting it off mate, it will do the dog good to be fit and in good shape... make sure you give a good high protien diet of meat/bone/fats or if you prefer, a high protien complete aswell. Plenty of exercise is key to getting them in shape before you start lamping them. Id say 3 weeks of good running/diet you should change a podgey dog into a fitter animal. Then once you sta -
Damn... and heres me thinking that was a realy interesting documentary!! I dont have fears of any mammals or invertebrates on land, even though ive been bitten, kicked, knocked over and mauled by many.... like Bird said in his post and I agree with his views, as I was swimming in the tropics and got quite far offshore as I was swimming to a small island to explore it, when I realised I was being followed by a shark it was no monster, but it was interested in me, and I admit I did speed up a bit!!! Since then I keep to shallower waters in tropical seas!

could my whippet crossed with a staffy go lamping
HALTY LAD replied to benjohnson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
So is it a Ridgeback/Staff X Whippet? Any chance you could put a picture up? And good luck with the lamping, as long as its fit enough I dont see why you wont catch game. -
Never a truer word spoken. Some people wouldn't know a good terrier if it jumped up an' grabbed 'em by the throat !!! Got to say thats rubbish, ANY terrier that you can dig to regularly is a good'en, regardless of breed. But then I suppose most wont make you the same ammount of ££££££ when you breed a litter, so if thats your game Until people put the working terrier first, and forget about the money and the Kennel club, then the borders will always be a minority breed. Shame really. well then ,we,ll just have to see wont we, im being honest, mine wont be registerd, and im no

Id be very surprised if one of those lumps could get anywhere near any of the quarry you mention... do you belive a kangal (or similar) could catch a wild boar, bear or wolf... I dont even think they would be capable of following the scent left behind from the long gone quarry it was lumbering after. Id like to see otherwise but I doubt I ever will.

They are busy on my grounds.

That will be the BULL in it!!
