  1. A man is taking a walk in Hyde park in London. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull dog . He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl's life. A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says: "You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers: "Brave Londoner saves the life of little girl" The man says: - "But I am not a Londoner!" "Oh ,then it will say in newspapers in the morning: 'Brave Brit saves life of little girl'" – the policeman answers. "But I am not a Brit!" – says the man. "Oh,

  5. Waz Well spotted mate. The dog depicted on the pottery is Rambo. I took the pictures in Stuarts house - I put them on a few sites for him as he wanted to sell. Did he sell them in the end? if its a private matter then fair do's. Think he's still got them mate.
  6. Years back, a mate of mine took on an unworked 5 year old Border/Lakie whos elderly owner had died. Turned out to be a cracker - absolutely silent, but an real fox killer.

  9. Chartpolski Barry Crump was a very good writer, he hunted crocodiles, wild boar, and everything in between. "A sporting chance" by D Mannix is also good - all sorts of hunting covered, including a chapter on Badger digging.
  10. I enjoyed his books when I was younger, it's only as I get older (and possibly wiser) that I can pick holes in some of the stuff he said. However ... "The Fell Terrier" is his finest hour. He interviewed terrier men who simply are not around today. A seminal piece of work.
  11. The pic of you on the quad with the kids is priceless.
  12. They can't be muzzled for evermore. There will be opprtunities to get at each other again, and they WILL fight again.
  13. Out with a mixed pack today - Bedlingtons, Russell, and two small lurchers - bull x whippet and 3/4 whip/1/4 Beddy. Terriers flushed a fox out of a reed bed, and was well retrieved by Lady (Beddy/Whip) who recieved a few nasty bites before the terriers got in. Fox is dead in pics.
  14. Bit of a sad tale this. IMO one whippet has to go. And the terrier has to be on borrowed time too, going on the account of the incident. When two bitches decide that they don't get on, they can be far more vindictive and savage than dogs. Duckwing, mainly good advice there - especially about the diet off season. But I reckon I could find work for 2 Whippets no problem. With the lighter nights, I get home, have a quick bite to eat, then out with the dogs for an hour or two - just banging through the cover and a general mooch, but I find it takes the edge of them in the evenings. When
  15. When I started to read your post, (with all the suspense and drama you weaved into it) I thought perhaps you may have been pitting your wits against Grizzly Bears, Mountain Lions, or even Taliban snipers. Then I discover it's rabbits you were pitting your wits against. Like you say, they are creatures of habit, and frequent the same spots night after night.. Glad you taught them a lesson though... . ............
  16. My Bedlington dog sounds like the Hound of the Baskervilles when he's onto something - but only if he has it in sight. My little black bitch yips when she's on a hot scent, and changes to a more shrill yap when she see it. Her sounding in cover is actually proving to be more of an asset than a hinderence.
  17. My favorite was the "Speed" movie spoof episode, the one with the milkfloat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L90BduGKuTo Pure genius. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25N-4zrk390&feature=related
  18. It is a lot !! Maybe that russel and your beddi are made from different thing"s mate!! I doubt it . But the difference is ... the two that he has caught, were single handed jobs. No team behind him. Makes a bit of a difference. But hey, good on the pack of wee Russells anyway.

  20. 11 sounds an awful lot for even a few Russell types. My big lump of a Bedlington (18" and 27 lb ) is mad for them and in almost 4 years has managed to hold on to 2 in the thorns. Full grown ones mind.
  21. Apparently, Lenny Henry was complaining that there aren't enough black people on television. So the BBC have agreed to screen crimewatch twice a week.
