You never take a shot if your depending on luck. I can cleanly dispatch of a rabbit at 50 yards with a 10 mph wind. I have BSA Lightning XL and i can say it certaintly kills a rabbit at 50 yds without a real struggle although i have practised upon practised with my gun hitting tennis balls at that range i can say i would never even entertain a shot over 55yds. 68yds is quite far but i would say this shot is possible if Bipod was used and conditions were corrrect and had a experiance with a gun at ranges close to this. Its nothing to do with luck if you know what your guns capabilities are. Max
Never shot one but hear very good things about them.
£400 doesn't seem too bad for an old tatty 410, but you may get a little more sold privately, hard to say without seeing it, though he won't be offering £400 out of the goodness of his heart
I agree with Dekers post.
Springers are hold sensetive, each one being different. The recoil & hold sensetivity presents more chance of error with shot placement and therefore not getting a clean kill.
PCP for hunting every time IMO
.20 version i had was tunned by ben taylor, gutted i sold that so this ones going nowhere, there getting like hens teeth now it loved h&n ftts .20 quite easy if you know the right places mate
hansom rifle isnt it
A BTAS .20 & you sold it a rare beast I would think mate. You're right mate - it's a nice looking rifle & seems to shoot to the same level
What happened to the BSA mate?
Looks a nice gun, I've always fancied a Fenman for some reason.
How did you find the .20 calibre - or find pellets for it
Good luck with it
For that sort of money Air Arms are probably the best value.
The S400 now has a multishot conversion kit available - gives you 8 shots.
You could easily pick up a s/h mint S400 for £300, possibly less. Worth considering if you need charging equipment as well.
The 410's are cracking rifles. Have you tried one in .177?
not yet mate but if they are half as good as the one i am firing at the moment they must be great!!! mine was s/h got it on bbs but its been tuned and groups on paper under an inch at 45 yards using magnums and napier. really want to try it hunting though. just gotta find me some permission!!!
I picked up a 400k .177 pcp after using a .22 springer. The springer was then v-mach tuned, which made it a different gun (still got it).
The margin for error with a .177 is so much greater I find; better for (wrong) r
How many rifles are you zeroing?
If it's a sub 12ft/lb rifle is it really worth the outlay.
I actually enjoy zeroing my scopes . I think you get to know them a little better
Would you need the charging kit too?
May still get a 410 with a smallish bottle for that sort of money.
Don't rule out the 400 as there is now a multishot conversion kit available which gives you 8 shots.
Good luck
Don't rule out a Webley Longbow (2nd hand Brum made); direct competition to the 95 but with a thicker stock. Also th e AA TX200, but maybe outside your price range
Agree with Ricky; learn how to shoot a springer (especially in .22) and you've made a great start.
Plenty of bargains around on HW95,TX200 or ever Prosports/
Go to a shop/club & try 'em out to see what suits you best.
Good luck
