  1. id love to see a spannable terrier take on a yote and come out the victor, i have never heard that happening and am curious if you work your dogs on yotes yourself? Not sure by quoting my reply that you think a lurcher is a terrier? It is not. It is a sighthound bred with another type (collie, terrier, etc.) so they can be quite large dogs. There is a whole section on this site devoted to them (with lots of great pictures )
  2. True enough, but I don't think I have to worry about that as it doesn't sound like you'll be letting any of yours go anytime soon Is there a spot on the web where stag breeders chat (or breeder websites)? Would like to see some more pics of the dogs and ask some more questions
  3. Bottom line: my requirements would be a dog to take bunnys 90% of the time (so they better be good at it) but also go after anything else that gets driven out of the bush (i.e. fox and coyote). Would a stag fill the bill? If so, could one dog be sufficient or would you always require more than one if there is any chance of messing with a yote??
  4. I'm in Newmarket. No lurchers at the moment, just developing an interest. Seems like they would be very handy in farm country where the fields would allow them the space to run. I would imagine the bush would be too thick for them to work effectively though?
  5. That is an awesome photo! A guy from a camp in the same area as our moose camp hunts coyote hounds in the Madoc area (east of Peterborough). He uses bluetick/walker crosses. Not a formal hunt like this but the same idea. Excellent pictures!
  6. That is one game looking dog who can obviously do the work Do you think he could handle game that bites back (pre ban)? What is his size? Good job on this one Looking forward to some more pics
  7. Nice pics Dan! Can staghounds consistently take cottontails too? Or are they much more suited to the game that bites back?
  8. Thanks for the responses. How are the greyhound crosses on rabbit (are the whippet crosses better on rabbits than the greyhound crosses)? I like the greyhound crosses knowing they can take on the larger game easier but want to understand how much is given up from the rabbit hunting.
  9. Seems the Beddy x Whippet is much more popular thant he Beddy x Grey.....why is that? Is it that the size is not needed since the ban? Or does the whippet bring something better to the mix than the grey?? Absolutely love the the looks of both crosses, so any pics would be appreciated
  10. There are a few guys who post their staghounds every now and then....maybe they will jump in.
  11. Nice pics! Do you work the Mal?? BTW, stop crying about the cold....
  12. Very Nice!! What part of Canada do you live?? Have you ever tried your lurchers on yotes?
  13. Do you dig to them John....or are they strictly bushing dogs? I think only the mini's would fit down our holes over here.

  17. I'm definitely not the expert here and I know others will give much more experienced opinion, but your description sounds like a job for a Beddy....if you can find a decent worker. Good luck!
