  1. Try the pup on chicken wings, mince lamb/beef/chicken, tripe , lites, eggs, with a bit of fruit and veg. Young pup needs up to 10% body weight per day, split in to 3 or 4 meals. Older dogs need up to 3% body weight per day, 1 or 2 meals. Can have the same , just add in chicken carcass, and meaty bones from the butcher. Just bear in mind to give extra if working hard or lives outside(cope with cold) Bone content should not make up more than 25% of diet (this from personal experience, may read different elsewhere), otherwise poo can be a little too dry/hard to pass.
  2. My Full Deerhound works quite well. It does depend on breeding. They're never as fast as a X , but they can hold there own. Maybe the ones I saw run were show bred because they were much bigger than the one in your photo. Nice dog There aren't many breeders who produce a true working strain. The breed has a whole seems to retain the high prey drive, but the larger/heavier types don't seem to be up to the job, especially on small quarry like rabbits. My Dog is 30" tts and an athletic 45Kg.

  4. Sounds like either a puppy farm/dealer or a total scam. Either way dont waste the money for the phone call.
  5. Sorry Pal, they ain't the same thing. Definitely a Moonbow !
  6. I've kept dogs inside and out and it doesn't make any difference. As long as you feed em well and give plenty of contact and exercise. Doesn't matter where they spend the rest of the time.
  7. Had to take a double take then ! Thought someone had stolen my Mac ! Have you entered him into anything yet ?
  8. Sorry the pics are a bit crap, hopefully get some better ones soon.
  9. My Deerhound is just the same, 1st race of the day he's quite keen, after that he just won't bother. Put him after something worth chasing and he'll work all day/night !!!! Here's some more , some too lazy, some too clever. http://www.scottish-deerhound.com/videos/9...oses-april-2009
  10. Didn't think you'd flog that one blacky !!!
  11. Most of the time my dogs sleep outside. If it particularly cold , or if they've had a hard day/nights work and they're damp , they sleep in the kitchen. Essentially they are house dogs when we're home , and kennel dogs at night or when we're at work. Best of both worlds. I think the most important thing is to never put the dogs to bed if they are wet and it's cold. Basic animal husbandry really. Mccloud.
  12. 4 Adult dogs and one older pup all sleep outside. New 8 week old, sleeps inside until he's big enough not to get squashed by an adult. They do come in during the day if we are home. Advantages ? Slightly less doghair to clean up. Not always under your feet ! You have the sofa to yourself once they've gone to bed I personally think its better for them.
  13. Hi All, was just wondering, how often does everyone go out hunting with their dogs ? and what percentage of time is general mooching as opposed to working specific permission. I'll go first ... I don't get much time during the week , and I can only manage extended lamping sessions on a friday/saturday nights. So I reckon general mooching 3 -4 times a week for a couple of hrs and lamping maybe once or twice a week.
  14. I got him from a guy up in Darlington. There was a litter of 6, he was keeping one and by the time I phoned there were only 2 left. I went up the next day and picked up this little chap , left a lovely little bitch, which I'm sure will be gone by now. I've never been faced with a room full of puppies that I was going to choose from, but I would watch how the puppies interact with each other and the mother. From a temperament point of view you don't necessarily want the cocky one that comes out of the pack and barks or one thats jumping over all the others. Physically, good set of paws and
  15. Just been lucky enough to get hold a of 8 week old Beddy Whippet pup. Have been waiting and searching for quite a while for the right pup, and now I think Ive found him. His lines are Rillington and Laguna which I understand are good ones to have. He comes from good working stock, so I have high hopes for him. This is Bran ...
  16. Dump the dry stuff mate, rm&b will do them fine !
  17. My Deerhound isn't too hot on retrieving game. Once he's caught it he tends just to stand there and pin it to the ground and wait for me to come over and collect it. It's not really a problem as long as he doesn't let it go. Which is why I've not really pushed the training with him. I don't think it matters in the grand scheme of things, it's not like a gundog that you send out to pick something up.
  18. I know someone who has some 3/4 whippet - 1/4Beddy pups for sale, and was wondering, is there much difference between a 75 -25 mix and 50-50 ? They are rough coated, but are they likely to be too fine for bushing , would they make better lamping dogs ? anything else ?
