  1. I didn't say he did the teaching, nor that his videos are used in schools. He does a lot of work and support for organisations that give access to those who wouldn't normally get the opportunity to get involved.
  2. You may all mock, but Sam is heavily involved with Woodspring and Pass-it-on. How many of you actively work to encourage large numbers of youngsters into Fieldsports? His video might not be the best, but he's trying to safeguard the future of our sports. That goes a long way to balancing the harm done by some of the poachers and rogues that post here...
  3. If he's doing racing and church fun days I'd guess he's running a rescue. Dealing with the cast offs from all those who only keep ferrets for the season.
  4. Except that you dock a terrier to prevent painful working injuries, there would be no reason to dock a ferret.
  5. If you've ever worked an undocked spaniel or terrier through thick cover you would know. The injuries sustained by a dog thrashing it's tail about can be quite horrific. I've never heard of a ferret sustaining tail injuries whilst working.
  6. Go round and call him a c*nt from all of us, then ignore everything else he tells you based on the fact that he is a very misguided individual.
  7. Newbies don't read stickies... Fact.
  8. Usually from about 3 weeks they will be crawling over to Mum's food if she drags it back. Give them some minced rabbit or chicken, or some dry ferret food softened with hot water. Little and often is the key, mine were gumming whole rabbits and pigeons at 4 weeks old.
  9. It was also documented that ferrets should be muzzled, fed on sops, starved to make them work etc. Scruffing and shaking can make them hand shy, and it's a lot easier to get wrong than right. Finger in the mouth technique isn't forceful, and they learn that the way to get away from discomfort is by not having hold of your finger. They learn much quicker.

I'd say it's definitely run it's course, OP is talking:
  11. Leave it on the bone. KFC would be no good with a knife and fork now would it

:feck: Your continued involvement in this thread is purely incidental, as most of us stopped valuing your opinion a good few posts back...
  13. Great idea, get them fearful of handling.... Offer them a finger side on, if they nip or bite then gently push towards the back of the mouth so they have to move back. It's what I've done with all of mine and they only mouth when playing now, no proper nipping.

How dare you fly that flag without knowing about the Welsh polecat "Mustela p. anglia"
  15. You'll have to put one of those solar garden lights in your hutch so they can see it, then they'll stay awake and eat it... I chuck a rabbit in at about 7pm, clear out in the morning. As has been said above, tie to mesh or side of hutch so they can't drag it off. That helps get them stronger too as they try and pull it everywhere.

Hang on guys, I've had a turn of conscience. Maybe we're being a little bit.... ...nope, he's either been ripped off or is a peddler himself and is trying to perpetuate the myth that dark ferrets are worth more because they're "real polecats". Because he won't admit that he's had his eye wiped then chance are he's a peddler. Posting that he's going to breed, then that he isn't, then that it's up to him if he wants to. Get yer fancy show ferret and pop over to a show forum, this site is called "The Hunting Life" for a reason.
  17. feed at night remove anything not eaten first thing morning Bingo, that's what I do. The only thing with "cat" in the name that should be fed to ferrets is a cat.
  18. That sounds great, but only give them a bit of liver at a time. Chop it up and freeze the rest in an ice cube tray (makes for easy portion control). Liver is quite rich and too much can go through them too quick. They'll love the chicken

I'm just picking because your posts contradict each other. If you want to pay £50 for a ferret that's fine, but don't give it the big balls know it all in a later post because it just doesn't wash.

If you know so much about ferrets, why pay £50 for one? You state that you asked around if anyone had kits, but didn't actually wait until the time of year when kits are born.
  21. Get them on proper ferret food or real flesh, cat food is very processed and contains a lot of "filler".
  22. Rather than putting 'two pennth worth' in, you could also say 'answered the question' or 'corrected the idiot'. Oh, and if we'd really have bitten we would have pulled you up on your terrible grammar, syntax and total lack of proper punctuation.
  23. From the Latin Furritus meaning "little thief" that latin not french whats the french meaning The term "ferret" is taken from Latin so it doesn't matter what the French meaning is. You said "so tell why there call ferrets" (sic), I answered your question.

  25. I usually gut before freezing, it's only a gloved finger up the arse and hook out job. Usually pull the crop out before feeding too... Just what I prefer to do with mine.
