  1. Everything you need to know in this sticky. Don't follow bad advice or listen to old wives' tales. Don't put anything on it, burn it or squeeze it.
  2. If they do bite, push gently towards the back of their mouth so they have to move their head to get free.
  3. If your vet advised that, then it's another vet that knows zip shit about ferrets. They probably advise using alcohol or Vaseline on ticks too...
  4. Difference is, those that give their ferrets away usually make a judgement on who they go to. Those that sell see £££'s and sell to anyone.
  5. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WHO COULD RESIST THIS LITTLUN LOL,,,,,,,,PERKY LITTLE FELLA,,,, I'll be working his brother and three sisters alongside my existing team this year, my ferreting buddies will also be working his brother and sister too so we're hoping they turn out as a good litter! He's getting handled twice daily, and I'm getting him used to wearing a locator collar alongside the ones I'm keeping so he'll come pretty well prepared. Still looking for a home, Wirral/Cheshire/North Wales area.
  6. Ferrets need research and thought before getting them, not just an impulse because there weren't any guinea pigs left.
  7. The ferret is a working animal, and it's active mind benefits from stimulation. Mine have an old pillow case that had been knotted in the corners, hung it up from cord to make a hammock. They jump around on it, chase each other, hide in it and sleep on it. Dead simple but they love it. A pipe is also good. How big is your hutch?
  8. Digging on dunes, can be a death trap. Go easy fella...
  9. I'd offer you one of the jills but I lost my old'un this spring so I'm keeping all three. Hope you get sorted.
  10. Not of any jills, but I've got a dark poley hob kit from this year's litter you are welcome to. If he's half the worker his mother is he'll be mustard.
  11. I've still got one poley hob left, turning into a big strong fella. Born May this year, breeding between our best jill and a mate's best hob.
  12. I'd never buy a ferret, get one off another ferreter who had bred their own litter and has a couple left over. More thought will have one into the mating, especially if they are keeping a few for themselves.
  13. Do yourself a massive favour and never put them down when they are squirming. Wait until they stop struggling, give them a quick stroke and then pop them down. Saves them learning they can wriggle free.
  14. Never had a problem with mine, very straightforward to use.
  15. tenner each pal thing is id already got him a couple he just wouldnt wait a few weeks Can't choose your family...
  16. It sounds like he's full of shit. Well done to your cousin on finding ferrets from working stock, I've heard they are really hard to come by. How much were they?
  17. If it's the only one that does it, then it's either had less attention when handling or it might have something causing it pain when you lift it up
  18. I've done some like that, only for the ferret to pop up on the arse of a rabbit in the distance
  19. Ironic thing is that the bigger ones on mine don't have many rabbits, they just don't get back filled properly so just get bigger each year. Too much for hand backfilling so get left.
  20. I've got a couple of sites that have had years of rabbit abuse (long reservoir embankments) where warrens have spread into each other. They certainly have a couple of hundred holes but that's what long nets are for.
  21. Just bend the end of your bottle brush 90 degrees so it's an 'L' shape. Make the bent bit the same length as from neck to edge of the bottle, that way you can do inside the top, and the flat of the bottom piece of cake. The inside of the bend is great for cleaning the neck thread too.
  22. Time, patience and lots of handling. Offer them a finger, if they bite it then push gently towards back of their mouth so they have to move away to get it out.
  23. The Internet would be a far better place if people gave their own opinion based on personal experience, not spouted the recycled opinion of others. That's how 'bollocks' becomes mainstream, and the newcomers to our sport end up doing it wrong.
